Although Jar Jar and Hal’s rational has merit, which I don’t disagree with.

But … remember the comedy/banter/“make the audience feel good” after Han’s death?

Nope. Let us feel. The reward of knowing Chewy is ok is that much sweeter for teh audience instead of laughing the way till we see him.

Also, there is merit for the Zorri/Rey stuff, which I get that rationale … but it’s so bad. What if it’s just Zorri saying “I think you’re ok” or whatever after Rey puts the saber away and stretches out her hand? That way you still get across a bit that Zorri isn’t just having a gun to her head to help out, but she actually appreciates Rey’s skill and character. Kinda like BECAUSE of her acknlowedging Rey she is choosing to help out, in a sense, or at least agreeing to do it because of Rey’s merit.

Ah the Hayden Shaw Ghost topic. It isn’t an easy answer and I personal don’t think there is a real wrong or right answer on this, since you got both the reality problems (Movie made years ago with a different actors) and then weird lore implications due to the special edition. (Wait … why is he young and the others are old? Que?)

In my, erm, “head canon,” the lava bath Anakin took messed him up physically obviously, and his voice. (Lava up to his head and neck, so it could affect his voice box.)

So in some ways, I am “ok” with the Hayden ghost, since the ghosts we see are based on how they look at the time of their death, just minus any problems. So if you lost an arm, you git it back! etc. Got “ugly” from some lava? No problem! It their “natural look” at the time of their passing.

The issue I have is it being “young” Hayden change in ROTJ special edition. Now I know, because of the timing of the prequels Lucas made the change.

So, for me, although I grew up with Shaw, for the sake of the saga to all connect it makes more sense with Hayden.

Although with the new Vader series having Hayden back, I’d use his face/picture to change ROTJ to line up with an aged Anakin as well as with what Jonh has down with his scene.

Another alternative for the puppets, it would be funny if there was a puppet Kylo that took a swing at puppet Luke, but the puppet went below stage, then popped back up behind Kylo. Then we see kids laughing.

Basically, we see Luke taking the wind out of the First Order’s sails, making the next generation less afraid of the First Order. And since the First Order rules by fear, then their authority will fall apart. I think it all ties back to the themes we’re trying to hit pretty well.

I love this! 😄 RogueLeader, how do you come up with your ideas? 😉

I’ve just put way, way too much thought into Star Wars…

But like I said, I could make some puppets. So if MR gets a clean plate completed, filming some puppets wouldn’t be a problem. I kind of have an idea of how to design the Luke/Kylo puppets.

Lol, I picture a Kylo puppet “bouncing” towards the Luke puppet and the Luke puppet quickly gets pull down and the Kylo Puppet stops bouncing and the Luke Puppet pops up and bounces around to “mock” him. That would make kids laugh me thinks.

Not very techy, at all, as for inserting “Skywalker” in it … is it possible or helpful to remove or voice over him with a “new voice” and says whatever he says, but the “new voice” then uses the “Skywalker” line whenever. I would think that may help it sound more natural than how he sounds and then a random “Skywalker” that doesn’t quite match it?

Wow, MR, I’m beginning to worry about you. That looks insane. I’m sure the rest can be covered by foreground puppets or objects.

And lol @ just having them watch TLJ on a CRT.

I worry about me too!! Haha. I’m my worst critic so this isn’t anywhere near where I want it.

I think the puppet show should remain basic and fun, How about a gorilla walker firing a few bolts at Luke and have him kinda twist and bob up n down like he’s dancing to deflect them? Kids love that stuff. Could even add a few “pew pews” in there 🤣

I demand the Pew Pews now. Hahah!

Also, for dialogue sake, if it helps, maybe even a simple line of “The Jedi” could help if it is easier to implement than “Luke Skywalker.” Dunno if that helps with anything, but maybe for the alien dialogue? Jabba the Hutt did use, in “english”, “Jedi” and “Jedi Mind trick.” It may … feel more natural?

The kids at the end of TLJ are speaking in another language and still say “Luke Skywalker”. It sounds natural in that scene. I think it would be best to simplify it to “Skywalker” though, as it matches the title more accurately.

Oh crap, that’s right. Nevermind. Lol

I completely get what you mean Dominic,

At least for me, it’s not so much of “kids dissing at Luke” with laughter is the exact thought on this topic. I think its more of … how it could come across of the “audience” watching the children laugh as Luke “faces the FO and then disappears.” one could IMPLY they are “laughing at the cowardly Luke” or “He got blown up, funny loser”

So to help streamline things, since we have laughing children … why not make the portrayal of the scene imply some comedy. Having “puppet luke” essentially hit them with, or knock them back with “The FireBall of Destiny” would probably make a child laugh when you see the big ole walker puppet fall down from it.

Kids … and adults … laugh at people/animals/things hurting themselves or falling down.

It’s a simpler way to convey it, and this is a story based on “what they’ve heard.” So the exact events do not need to follow exactly what happened in TLJ … Only Luke and FO saw what happened. Events and stories get distorted … but the idea of the “legend of Skywalker” who created the spark for the galaxy to start raising up is key.

Ideally we could communicate something worthy of the laughter of the child crowd, but if not we could resort to cutting the shot.

As usual it’s hard to imagine what to do here because I don’t know what will end up being possible for you guys. Luke hitting a home run and taking down a walker? Having a walker collapse in sync with lowering his hand? Kylo Ren’s pants falling down?

One thing that pops in my mind, which you or someone may have mentioned, that the “show” does not have to actually match what happened on crait. It’s hearing from somebody, who heard it from somebody, who heard it from somebody. It’s more about the legendary confrontation of the Jedi Master against an army.

So for the puppetry, it really can be mostly what we see, and basically have a “large puppet” that looks like a walker get’s hit by a flame thingy and falls down quickly. (If that is what already happens, than roast me since I don’t watch this movie much obviously)

Is that enough for the kids to laugh? Probably.

The other tough part to help it feel connected is even having the name “Skywalker” used to sound convincing from the alien … even during the time the children are laughing maybe?

This is around 8 hours of work so far on the Puppet removal. It’s really tricky to get the pattern of the material looking like it hasn’t been clone stamped and mimicking the wind blowing in the background. It’s probably going to take another 10 mask layers to get right…

My goodness, it is shaping up though because yeah, the wind and material would be a son-of-a-rancor to work with!

And speaking of Luke’s legend sparking hope in the galaxy, I wonder if you could somehow make it clearer that people of Kijimi are revolting against the First Order. The patrols, stormtroopers going door-to-door questioning people, the distant explosions later on during Poe and Zorri’s convo. Though that might contradict Poe’s whole speech about people giving up.

That’s an interesting idea … especially since it seems like that’s kind of what is going on. From Poe’s perspective, he thinks people has given up BECAUSE of his experience from Crait … which is completely understandable on his viewpoint from that specific event. However, because of Luke’s “legendary” appearance, it has sparked hope so now people are beginning to “raise up” which is also reinforced later in the movie with Lando & Crew of 1000tm and the destruction of FO star destroyers around the galaxy.

What a shame from the original cut.

However, what kind of adjustments could work for that? I don’t remember the dialogue very well in that scene to make those adjustments. If possible.
