I like the idea a lot about the flickering/saber issues during the DSII fight. It’ll pay off at the end of it sparks and dies at the end.

However, the only “argument” is use about not using the blue color at the end is we saw the saber die off and know the crystal is too damaged … so why have it as the blue/purple combo and not green/purple since the blue crystal is kinda dead?

With the footage we have available to us what does Rey emotionally have to contend with? Why would she reach such a point of anger to strike down Kylo the way she did? What does is the reason she is so upset at Kylo during the Skype fight?

I think her anger towards Kylo comes from two places: 1) He is her primary obstacle between her and the wayfinder, which she needs in order to kill Palpatine and save her friends. 2) Kylo keeps sewing doubt in her own moral fortitude. He manifests her insecurities. So if she gets rid of him, she can erase those insecurities in a roundabout way.

That works for me, personally. Essentially at the time of that battle, she basically has tunnel vision and quite frankly, you SEE that with her in action and words.

Question: What about the ship? AKA the ORCHI/PARENTS Ship? That is the one hiccup I can see if one was to pretty much remove the whole parent thing in this movie.

I’m not good with colour correction, someone else would need to test it but, I think Mustafar could look a lot better with a bit more of a Orange / hellish tint, I know Mustafar is rejuvenating itself but I think it looking a little more like Revenge Of The Sith colour wise would be a lot better.

The tint should be a lot more subtle, just not a job for me.

Hmm… This could be interesting.

One thing that could be good for the community to loop around to is adding some lava to this shot.

That seems to be the final touch to really “complete” it to me.

Having no ability or skill, I am simply critiquing for the motivation to “make this work.” Kudos to Nev of course, awesome work and we know all the work that it’s taking.

I think what’s tough is the beginning scene at the Tie fighter. The initial shot, and TIE shot actually, shows its dark out. However, behind Ray at some shots with Luke, you see the sky is light. Also, the background cliffs are a bit light. If it is supposed to be darker at this time, then those mountain/cliffs shouldn’t be lit up.

So with that being said, is it doable to put some kind of mask or something to “darken” the cliffs and mini hills outside the vicinity of Rey and the fire? Also, can there be a mask of sorts in some of the spots of sky you see with Rey?

After Luke says “what are you doing here” we get a great establishing shot with the sky being lighter, so then the rest is fine. I won’t comment on color since Im color blind and all, but the main stuff that stuck out to me was the light sky and the lit up mountains BEFORE “What are you doing here” doesn’t match up with the previous establishing shot AND the TIE shot.

If that can be tweaked, it would be great. Also, the touch up on Luke’s “glow” is much improved!

I like RogueLeader’s mindset for a nobody version. Having anything to do with her parents kind of muddles up everything. In the last movie, just keep them as losers/drunks or whatever and that’s that.

Changing the focus on any visions or whatnot on her “new” family getting hurt/killed/whatever works better thematically for her and is a better motivation against Palps. I think that can be doable. Using flashes of the final battle or whatever would help with any vision stuff.

Luke did not stay on the island simply out of fear or shame. He believed that he was doing what’s best for the galaxy. All the teachings he gives to Rey serve to explain this reasoning. However, fear and shame had a hand in leading him to those conclusions. His fear of loss led him to cement Ben’s turn to the dark, his fear of failure led him to renounce the Jedi.

But the reason he stayed on the island and refused to fight was much deeper than simple fear. I would propose changing the line to “It was fear that led me here”. I think that under the context of their conversation this subtle change would help avoid any apparent misrepresentation or oversimplification of TLJ’s story.

That’s a fine point, if one was to make any change to the line a bit.

Alright did a little bit of testing.

Luke saying “lesson” in “lesson two” sounds perfect. The problem is finding a good source of him saying “three”. I tried the one of him telling Rey that he will give her three lessons, but it is too short and doesn’t match.

Could try other words too if that helps, like Final, Last or Third?

EDIT: He does say the word “last” a few times. Not sure if that helps or not.

It would be a, not sure what to call it, but a way to “connect” to TLJ making a connection about ‘the’ third lesson.

Of course the lessons back in TLJ was to disuade Rey from training as a Jedi, or “prove” the Jedi were wrong, but it would be a fun “twist” he plays on the lack of the third lesson (since Rey left) from the last movie and “converts it” to an actual “Jedi good/right” lesson.

Kinda would be a fun play on the whole lessons thing from the last movie.

I have a question, the Chewbacca scene on Kylo’s ship has been removed; rightfully so considering it exists to hold our hands and let us know he isn’t alive. Have you thought about removing the scene where C3PO gets his memories restored?
It’s a none issue either way, but there is zero reason for us to worry about C3PO losing his memories if he simply gets them restored so quickly.

Personally I don’t have a preference one way or the other. I mean, he’s had his memory wiped before … so it’s not like it’s a really big impactful thing. Although not remembering the OG group could be sad.

But arguably the end of Leia’s Jedi path takes place in TROS where she projects herself to him to turn Ben back to the light. Pretty sure she doesn’t give birth there. Actually, hold on a second.

I just realized the freaking genius of changing it to birth. Her son is “reborn” at the end of her Jedi path in TROS, and she physically gives birth to her son shortly after having the vision and giving up her formal Jedi training.

Woah, that’s deep.

Nev, that’s a distinct improvement! The establishing shot at the beginning is perfect. Rey throwing stuff at Ren’s TIE feels perhaps too orange now that the sun(s) has/have set. Would feel right for a sunset but now for dusk, IMO.
The sitting on a log scene looks good, though there are three or four shots that would benefit from masking the sky in order to darken it further.
I wonder if it’d be even better to have the hut interior pre-flashback as being pretty darn dark outside, then a bit lighter post-flashback, leading into a sunrise as she heads outdoors.
Also, it feels in isolation that the sunrise feels more like a sunset with this grade. Maybe in reality sunrise and sunset look similarly orange, but it feels more like a sunset to me. Not sure if that’s useful!

I just watched the new clip and it is a bigger improvement. I agree about the log scene needs some more masking since it is a bit too bright, especially in comparison to the shot before and the hut scene.

As well as lighting the hut exterior AFTER the flashback would then help the next scene with the X-wing feel more organic with the change in lighting.

However, I think the orange color at the TIE is ok since it is the orange from the fire, however, the background (like the cliffs/mountain) outside the immediate area of Rey and Luke does need some masking to be darker/less orange since the light from the fire wouldn’t affect them.

Really good work Nev, it’s getting better and better!

Here’s a full mockup of the Ach-To sequence, featuring a regrade by NeverArGreat:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UpnKp8-35PMwuWDXiv2ZjIvsZ93y0BE0/view?usp=sharing

I had a chance to sit down and watch it and admittedly, I am kinda confused by it because of the changing “colors” of island’s sky and whatnot. My brain is having a hard time understanding it and the sense of time. It kinda comes accross has “the sky is acting crazy” more than passing time.

If I could make a suggestion, I think it would help to break things by swapping a scene in between the Act-To stuff to help alleviate it?

So Maybe instead of

Kylo/Han scene>Pryde/Palpy Scene>Poe & Crew>Acho-to … maybe break it up something like Kylo/Han>Pryde/Palpy>Acho-To Part 1<Poe & Crew>Acho-to Part 2.

I don’t know how that would change up the flow or whatnot, but it would really help the mind to get a better sense of time passing by and not changing weather.

That’s just my opinion on that. (Hail to the death of the Timer)

Can we just have Luke say “Because you’re a Skywalker” and be done with it?

“Because you’re a Skywalker … or a Kenobi … or Palpatine … or something else, I’m sorry, I am confused too. Seems like the force the last few years hasn’t been consistent one many things or directions and the last few months was trying to decide who you are. Wait … yeah, your a PalpaWalker … wait, what was I saying?”
