I think just some graffiti and some distant blaster fire works to help sell it. Not everyone would rise or fight, so where we see the heroes and the troopers knocking on doors etc. would be like yellow zones and the FO is trying to contain the immediate zone.

The crawl already comments on the unrest of the galaxy, so doing some “minor” things would be enough.

It’s like we are trying to make the movie actually make sense. Lol.

I’m down to draw some graffiti designs. I used to be a cartoonist for a living.

Oh yeah that’s right. Sounds good.

Do we have any idea where exactly the art would appear? Obviously on a wall, but at what point in the movie?

What about the walls where you see the storm troopers knocking on doors and messing with the residents?

The shorting out is not a necessity, but seemed to fit in naturally with the added crackle effect conceptually.

The puppet stuff, still looking forward to it!

Kijimi graffiti could be cool, to hint at the pending ‘rise’ of ‘Skywalker’ in the heart of the people, if indeed someone wishes to bring it about. Otherwise, it’s not necessary.

And a “canon” suggestion that in TLJ no one came to help because the First Order left the phone off the hook is dumb as hell. I’m really starting to not care much at all for “canon” surrounding this movie or the ST overall. Death of the “author” is best for those, it seems. (I see this as a separate concern from not going out of my way to make edits inconsistent with books-and-things-like-that to come.)

If Disney Star Wars doesn’t care, why should we? Lol.

Also it would be neat with making the stuff at Kijimi appear to be more of an uprising. That connected with the new puppet show would help connect the dots with TLJ and “the spark” as well as motivation for the FO all for joining up with the Palpy army since they need more power to control the galaxy that’s beginning to rebel.

Take your time Hal, it’ll be some time anyway with other aspects of the edit being worked on by you talented people on this forum!

As for dagger stuff, as other like Burbin and Rogue have brought up, visions will be the key.

First: There needs to be a vision when Rey touches the dagger in the “Vader Shrine Room.” I’d cut the scene to here directly going to and picking up the dagger, since in the original movie edit she goes for and focuses on Chewy’ stuff. Anyway, for this vision, it would use some clips that highlight the Wayfinder drawing in the “Old texts/Lukes Journal” and some shots of the Ocean Shore and DSII wreckage. I think, for the audience, it would be important to use the drawing of the Wayfinder for this first vision to connect with what Rey knows and what the audience has seen … which then leads to my second vision spot.

The next vision would be at the wreckage when Rey pulls out the dagger on the cliffside. These visions focus on some clips of the interior and the actual Wayfinder on the pedestal. The vision is clearer as she continues to connect with the dark side.

If anyone has the 4k rip of the movie, it may help to use that higher resolution for some Zoom in shots so it’s not 1:1 use of scenes/clips for these visions. Not saying it is an absolute must, but it may “look” better to the viewer maybe?

EDIT: It may be nice to have some vision shots of the inside of the DSII since in the movie, Rey was pretty much making a B-line to the throne room fairly easily, which even having a dagger that points to a spot in the distance would still take some exploring to figure things out since it is wreckage. So having some vision spots of some of the interior may help? Again, maybe using some 4K shots to zoom in random spots may help it not be a 1:1 clip use, but again helps the audience to see that Rey is being guided and kinda know where to go because of some of the vision shots. (she obviously isn’t getting a turn by turn directions, so her still looking around would be natural since she is getting just glimpses.

Also, having a vision during her looking out at the DSII may help the transition by hearing the Space Horses’ stampede coming into the shot can stop the vision too. It can help the transition between looking at the DSII wreckage/vision shot and having the crew being “interrupted” by the coming Ex Stormtroopers appear.

The first vision with Kylo in the “Vader Shrine Room” get’s interrupted by Kylo and the DSII wreckage scene’s vision gets interrupted by Jannah and crew.

I agree and its good to play it, since you gotta flesh it all out. It’s good to have Jar Jar or others ask all the thought provoking questions.

My thoughts too about the use of visions to help the audience understand what’s going on and it progresses from beat to beat based on the Kylo/Room scene and even if it is needed, maybe as she looks out at the DSII which may give us more breathing room to when the Jannah crew come, there appearance could break that vision or mini vision or whatever if needed.

For a thought on the actual translation of the dagger, could a call back to TLJ be used by using the term “reach out” like Luke told Rey on the rock?

To me, it’s an ok joke, but nothing that breaks the movie without having it.

Im still not sure your hang up about the 3P0 “sacrafice not meaning anything” with this edit. In this edit without him first mentioning it is clue AND translate it and Rey now understands she needs to give in to hte Dark to use it … it wasn’t possible without 3PO. So I don’t get the hang up honestly.

Heck, even in the regular cut of the movie, Kylo suddenly appears and destroys the Wayfinder. So everything the crew did regarding the finding of the Wayfinder was a moot point.

Lol this dagger is such a mess. "I know, I’ll take this old dagger, reforge it to be the shape of the DSII wreckage, inscribe a message on it AND ADD A POINTER to it which pinpoints a device that leads to my homeworld WHERE I AM FROM. I did this because Darth Jabrams requested a McGuffin that points to a McGuffin … which then becomes a moot point as it is destroyed seconds after it is discovered.

Lol.

Hi, my name is Orchi.

I acquired this ancient dagger, or was it given to me? Meh, I don’t remember … but anyway Senior Decaying-Tine sent me on a mission to find his dead beat son-of-a-clone and his grandclonedaughter to either kill em, or bring her to him? I don’t remember, I was on some Spice at that time when he was giving me those instructions.

Regardless, one day I needed a break and decided ‘Hey, I should go to the DSII wreckage site’ for reasons. I was just basking in the site of it all and eventually figured out the exact location of the Master’s Wayfinder. Neat. So, I took my Compact-Smelting-FurnaceTM to adjust the blade’s design to line up with the wreckage of “that’s no moon” base since i thought it was cool. Or it was the Spice, I dunno, I just went for it. Oh and I made a pull out pointer to scratch those all-to-hard to reach areas, but also doubled as a pointer to the Wayfinder. Hopefully the wreckage landscape won’t get adjusted or moved by those fierce waves for the next several years since it would make my hard work meaningless.

I thought it would be cool to carry around a shaped dagger that pointed to the device that leads to my homeward … your know … where I am from. So I decided to inscribe a message on it, you know, for reasons. I mean, sometimes the Spice messes with my mind so I need a backup way to get home. Oh, and to stab people with it.

Anyway, I gotta go get some more Spice from my dealer JJ who said it helps him make sense of things, especially stories. He said his partner Snakey Snake Snake will give it to me as long as I don’t have a problem with tunnels. Oh well, gotta jet.

After the interrupted execution scene…

Stormtrooper: “What are you doing down here?”

C-3PO: “I am a highly-trained Resistance spy.”

Stormtrooper: “Right. And I’m Jabba the Hutt."

That’s a nice reference to Rebels.

Anyways, would we be using that AND a similar comment when Jannah’s crew show up?

That’s a good question, I’d be curious to see multiple iterations on the Jannah scene since I am not too sure myself! On the one hand, it has been noted that 3po shouldn’t really know too much, since he obviously had his memory wiped … but if we use the line in the hanger scene, since it is funny, then the “cat is out of the bag”

Just thinking out loud, but the “good thing” if 3PO does reveal they are Resistance, it does give a reason for Rey to “reveal their intentions” to basically “go for broke” as you will. (revealing information to them since the droid confirmed who they are. Are they good or bad? One way to find out…)

Holy cow, we ask and it happens! hahahahah!

This does open up stuff and I don’t disagree with your assessment that although it would be funny, c3po did have his mind erased and wouldn’t really know anything about the resistance or his role. Of course, you can assume he gets PARTIALLY informed at some point, but not the whole picture.

On the other hand, if we are focusing on the Jannah scene, he has gone through flying to a destroyer, Poe and crew shoots down storm troopers and they’ve flown to the DSII wreckage finding the wayfinder. So he would at least get the idea, or some explanation on who they are and what they are doing.

Hmmm it does make you think regardless.

Hmmm, I am wondering if it is “more possible” to use “is everyday like this for you people” (I’d add him first saying “oh!” or “Oh My!” before he turns)

The hanger scene’s line can be changed since there’s more flexibility in regards to the context of what C3po says to the trooper. If it is possible about his spy line, that would be funny (if doable). Or he could use that Clone Wars clip I used about treating guest since he would be in more distress at that moment. (I am not tied to that line, just a quick thought if swapping lines at the time being.)

As for the translation of the dagger, keep up the ideas. A lot of them are “working” for it.

I don’t know if this would be needed, but we can kind of have a call back to TFA when Rey was at Maz’s castle hearing her young voice “leading” her to lightsaber.

What if having either all or some of the lines from the translated dagger be used while she is in Kylo’s room (or whatever you call it that has the Vader helmet and the dagger.) It can play in a similar audio affect (obviously something either distorted or has some kind of “forcy” effect) in that room. (not all the lines, but maybe some “key ones”?) and right before she picks up the dagger, it has the “only this blade tells” before cutting to the visions as she touches it.

That way the audience gets reminded of the words from the inscription (doesn’t need to be all of them) and it reinforces for the audience the blade is/will guide her. It wouldn’t feel too out of the place having those lines being said (distorted/with an effect/whatever) during Rey’s time in Maz’s castle with the lightsaber.

Awesome resource Lawdog!

I’m using Disney plus to skim through some more episodes.

Season 4:06
“May I say, this is not the way to treat friendly visitors on your planet”

Has a little buzzing sound from an electric staff thing … maybe it can be cleaned up?

“Sir, my disagreeable friend here means no disrespect

We are just trying to get back to our home planet. But our ship is damaged and I fear that repaired or not but further travel on it might not result our arrival there unscathed.”
(Clean lines)

“Oh you must understand this is an accident” (clean)
