Star Wars Prequels 35mm 4K Filmized Editions by Emanswfan (a WIP)
Time

Just a quick question, are there any specific color timing changes anyone here may desire throughout any point in the PT trilogy? An example would be changing the time of day for a scene, or removing a certain tint from a section (such as the ROTS opening with its warmth), anything that is more than just giving the films a mostly blanket new grade.

Please, I'm actually looking for real opinions on this because while the first versions will not have any radical color changes like I teased way back ago, I'm thinking that certain scenes could benefit from more selective changes.

So after not being fully satisfied with the grade for these films, I decided AGAIN to restart from the beginning with the whole process all over again with a clean slate.  So this whole last week I powered through and have almost finished an entirely new grade of ROTS, taking in to account all the previous issues I had.  The end result is something I'm very excited to show off.  When you see ROTS, it will actually look newer than 2005.  I was able to get rid of much of the cheap low-budget digital video look, and bring about a much more refined higher-production look to it all.  It appears more modern and helps a lot of the CGI.

Much of the reason I was able to do this, is that I own a Sony NEX DSLR (or mirrorless camera technically) and it actually has very similar color to the Sony camera used to shoot the PT (I did research on this).  So I went through a whole bunch of advanced color calibration techniques to remove most of it's inaccuracies and tints in the different color and luminance ranges, giving it a pure color look.  Then I can apply all the filtering to make the color and light response to appear more like film.  So with a few tweaks (and I'm still making some right now), I was able to transfer the presets over to the 4K upscaled footage easily.

So the clip will be a bit more delayed, and I expect a few screenshots I can post when I feel satisfied with them enough to post them for comments.

Little kid me watching 35mm OUT film prints of the Star Wars trilogy in a basement of one of my parent's friends.

So your parents had 35mm prints of the OUT? Must have been rich, unless they are actually 16mm or super 8mm prints.

Not my parent's, it was one of their friends.  His family owned a movie theatre back when the films originally came out and kept some prints with them, to save for later viewings.  But I don't still have access to them sadly.

I've only seen this movie once so far, but the time I saw it, the audio seemed far lower than normal.  Wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I actually missed the IMAX version of this since the TMNT crap took over before I could go to see it, but from the IMAX preview I went to for this over a month ago, it seemed like a way more enjoyable experience.  Does IMAX actually have people calibrating their systems on a daily basis, as they claim on their site?

Always nice to see action in this thread.

Probably the best way I can think of for now.

In terms of release date, I'm a little behind from where I want to be, but I'm getting through finishing the whole ROTS as much as my free time will allow me.  Life seems to always get busier the more you want to finish something.

I hope soon to release a short clip for download that is in the same encoded quality as the full render.  Then I can get feedback from all of you, to tell me if further tweaks should be made (which I don't mind, as everyone here has been great in providing constructive criticism for me).  I also plan to show off more screenshots of the deleted scenes, and one of the upscaled deleted scenes clip.

Does anyone have a suggested part of the movie I should post, that maybe I haven't shown previously?

I just tried to find what would Lucas or a Disney executive do to make the true Vader come back (not someone pretending to be Vader)... And the best I found is this: try to find a way for Anakin's Force Ghost to take control of a new Vader's armor but working for the light side of the Force this time... Perfect Disney family movie: Son and father (and add the son of Luke to for good mesure!) fighting together for the good of the galaxy ( and in a way they could even say that it is exactly what Vader wanted in ESB...!)

.... Ok, I go.

LOL!  I think I'd die if that happened.
