A New direction for Lucasfilm Animation
Time

So the rest of the Ventress arc in the series will be coming to us in book form.

Reading those quotes about the storylines... Why not just let it finish Disney?! I trust the Lucasfilm team to make Rebels a great show (and at an earlier point than TCW), but I really just wish I could have SEEN everything else go on. Even though it might not be the OT, the show grew on me so much...

Obviously, my rumblings don't help revive this series, but I just get so sad and angry about it all still.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Technically Vader only "helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi knights." So technically he wouldn't have to be the main person, but I'm pretty sure still Darth Vader is supposed to be the main one killing the Jedi at least if we follow how the current PT continuity works into the OT trilogy. Becuase it could be that Vader wasn't always at the the second to the top of the Empire, which the line somewhat seems like it implies he wasn't always second in command, IMO. BUT that would seem to not work, at least if we are following the Vader backstory given in the PT.

BUT, I most certainly agree that they should have Vader, not he the weird non-sith dude be the main person to hunt down the Jedi.

4K restoration on Star Wars

I guess, then it would be best to include multiple audio mixes as well (although that's assumed already if they went the blade runner route). They could have the original mono theatrical mix, a 7.1 remix of the theatrical (no changes), and a final "enhanced" mix in 7.1 with whatever changes Disney so desired. Disney has actually done this before on previous releases their films, having multiple mixes (original, original surround, and enhanced/new surround) and would be fit here.

Star Wars Prequels 35mm 4K Filmized Editions by Emanswfan (a WIP)
Time

I'm just going to say that I think I'll have the video track for ROTS start final rendering tomorrow. I'm actually going on a trip for 8 days starting Friday. I'll just let my computer run while I'm gone and come back with it finished. Though I'll admit that I am still working on the deleted scenes to get the best quality (SD to 4K is a little much, LOL).

I've been silent cause I was just making final tweaks to the footage. That said I'm still very confused on what to use for distribution. Maybe MEGA? I wish I could use MySpleen and torrent the files, but my ISP seems to be sensitive to those kinds of activities, even if they are legal by fair use.

So maybe by the end of summer, you'll at least have ROTS w/ deleted scenes.

But yeh, I'll have no access to the internet for that time I'm gone, so I won't be able to update on anything.

4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

Quick question. What about restoring the 1981 version of SW? It would be a good hybrid version, as the changes aren't as offensive as the special editions, and is closer to the theatrical. But more importantly it is labeled as Episode IV. Of course, I have no clue about the possibility of it.

Or do you think they might make the original theatrical version just with the new crawl, just to maintain continuity with the series.

Obviously, it seems this might be the 97 version, but it could just be a bases for an OOT restoration.

Personally, my dream release for SW is 77 (with and without episode 4 crawl), 81, 97, ultimate cut (ala Revisited style), and final cut (ala Angel's interesting ANH project style). Of course, that kind of release won't ever be happening...

JEDIT: I really don't want the fox fanfare replaced. Disney already replaces their classic Disney intro with their new CGI Disney intro on their animated film's Bluray releases. Makes my blood boil! But I think they'd respect the fanfare.

I hate thinking this might be another useless "getting me hyped" rumor that ends up leading nowhere.

This is, hopefully, part of the same "OUT coming to BD" news that the media hyped back in May/June.

That's what I'm guessing as well for the moment. I hope to see some confirmation that it is true or false somewhere soon.

I'm kind of surprised this hasn't been mentioned much elsewhere except for here.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

Honestly, I would just prefer to shoot the whole film with the same camera and aspect ratio as I like consistency. I's probably wouldn't have much of a problem with it if it was one of the spinoff films, but this a main episode. It should be more consistent with the original visual style.

BUT, if they have to do it. It should just be one long continuous sequence that changes at a climactic or emotional point. I like how Catching Fire did it (seen here), with having the aspect ratio change make sense somewhat logically in terms of the plot. Also, the shot is dark enough and the bars change slowly enough for it not to be painfully jarring. In the IMAX theatre, it was a true WOW moment. Plus it continued that way for 50 full minutes till the whole arena sequence was complete and they even had the character pass out, between the aspect ratio change back to 2:35:1.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Well hopefully my theatre will show Interstellar in film (it would be well worth the extra ticket price for me), but I'm still just so sad to see all these film projection systems go. I guess it's just nostalgia for me, but the most distinct thing I remember about going to the movies as a kid was film projection and over the more recent years, the few times I happened to view a print of a film, I just felt like a kid again. The projector noise. The little splotches, scratches, and flicker of the film. Even that soft lighting that came off the screen. If I could experience a movie that recreates that first experience of seeing Star Wars, and see that in a similar way as back then, I might go all Kevin Smith teary eyed.

Practical vs Digital
Time

Because of the pressure of studios, the amount of CGI in many movies have become a big problem. It's most certainly not the fact that is the CGI (though I do have a strong practical preference, but that has nothing to do with this) is always bad, it's that the VFX artists don't have enough time.. THIS is the real problem. These films always end up having to sacrifice the quality and detail of the VFX in one shot/scene to make sure a more crucial shot/scene looks good. They seem to never have enough time to achieve their fullest and best work on everything they want to.

It's why there should be a balance between CGI and practical, so that you get an optimal quality. But also, studios need to dedicate much more time to both pre-production AND post-production. ALSO, they really need to stop announcing release dates so damn early!

Well considering that list was updated in May of this year, I'm going to assume it is correct in saying more than two IMAX theatres have film projectors. And apparently the one I go to (Lincolnshire) does still have 15/70, oddly enough I haven't seen them use the 15/70 film projector they supposedly have each time I've been there.

Hopefully, they'll use it for Episode VII. Personally I really want to my first experience of this movies to be without me having seen the trailers, and with a real projector, but I'm not sure if either of those goals are happening.

On another note, does anyone know of a list for 35mm film theatres?

The Star Wars Duology: Divergent Edition (AKA the ANH/TESB fan-edits DuracellEnergizer would like to make but probably never will)
Time

I am just wondering why you would want these though.

I will tint all outdoor, daytime scenes on Tatooine a heavy pink.

I will remove any significant cloud cover from Tatooine's sky.

I will tint all outdoor, daytime scenes on Hoth a heavy blue.

I will give Vader's lightsaber a yellowish core in all shots.

Bigger action set pieces are usually what is shot on IMAX so that when you are in an IMAX theatre, the picture expands and the clarity increases. To my knowledge, no blockbuster movie has been shot entirely on IMAX cameras yet, so I'd doubt they'd shoot the whole movie that way.

Speaking of IMAX, are there literally no 15/70 IMAX theatres at all anymore?

EDIT: I was beat to it I guess.
