STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Just noticed that the Ridonium from the Out Of Darkness episode is also from the Clone Wars, contained in the same looking canisters, most notably being used as a way of exploding a ship in Point Of No Return from Season 5.

All TCW references are perfect, subtle and not in your face.

(Cool to see how the design changes from one show to another slightly)

Finally caught up with this series on demand, hadn't watched an episode since Rise Of The Old Masters.

Wow, this show has just gotten better with almost every episode. I'm already really enjoying the show, and so glad to see a few TCW nods as well.

Just watched Path Of The Jedi on demand, and it was a big character development episode for Ezra. The one thing I couldn't help but think about while I was watching it, was how simmilar it seemed to the final arc w/ Yoda covering the force, it was almost like this was a follow up to it.

All-in-all this show has been great considering how the shows only at the first half of it's first season. All the experience Filoni and his team had on TCW is paying off, since we don't have to start a series nearly as bad.

To me it looks like the guy is trying too hard to make his information appear to be true, by constantly referencing official information and the almost certainly real concept art as proof. Instead, he is probably just using this stuff, to make up the spoilers he is giving out.

That said, I like the idea he is a real LF employee and he's just telling us bullshit to throw us off.

Peter Jackson, WTH?! Interview

Peter Jackson said:

I don't really like the Hollywood blockbuster bandwagon that exists right now. The industry and the advent of all the technology, has kind of lost its way. It's become very franchise driven and superhero driven.

Umm, did he seriously just say that?!

MF: Now that the entire franchise is done, are there any characters from "The Hobbit" that you're sad you can't move into "Lord of the Rings"?

PB: You're the person to ask that!

PJ: You mean retrospectively?

PB: Tauriel.

PJ: Tauriel.

PB: I actually think the young girls are going to start watching this 1, 2, 3 and they're going to start wondering where she is.

PJ: We're really three or four years away from eight and nine year-olds discovering these movies and watching them in this order and will be wondering why she doesn't show up in "Lord of the Rings." Maybe we'll get Evangeline down to New Zealand, shoot a bunch of stuff, chop it up and put it into a box set.

I'm certain they are joking, but disturbing if they aren't.

The droid being revealed to be a real live prop doesn't surprise me. It certainly did not look like bad CGI to me. I was more like "that's amazing CGI". I think I assumed it was CG since I didn't think they'd be able to pull off the design for real.

That said I still severely dislike the CG falcon, but I'm certain it's just poor CGI as they only finished shooting less than 2 months ago!

Also, is it me or do the name cards have slightly different color grading than the trailer?

I did however do a quick mockup to get an idea of what things might look like sans hollywood teal / orange filtering.

Trailer colour-timings are meaningless these days. They bare no resemblance to the finished films, so I wouldn't get too concerned based on an early teaser. But if some of those shots were the actual timing, I'd be mildy concerned same as you.

Yes, completely agree. Just have to watch the teaser and main trailer for Desolation Of Smaug, and compare it with the final film. MASSIVE colour-timing differences. The trailers were orange and teal over contrasted and the final was low saturation with heavily reduced orange/teal look present in An Unexpected Journey. Again, the final movie and even the next trailer (probably April) will certainly look very different, hopefully in a good way.

For everybody complaining that it looks too modern, are you forgetting how unbelievably 70's the original SW looked?

That's a different way of thinking about it. JJ could be using much more practical FX than most film's today, but much like the original SW screamed 1977, this one will scream 2015. So in a way, JJ could be more homage to the fact that SW 77 heavily reflected the culture of that day.
