STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

Wow.

They just released a second teaser.

It's....wow.

Or even better the full trailer.

Looks like they might really reveal who Fulcrum is, which will finally see whether the rumors were true.

Also, cool to see Mustafar in an OT Mcquarrie inspired show. This episode might be a simple, but quality reference for what I should make Mustafar look like in my PT regrade.

Looks like screenshotcomparison is back up.

(previous shot clone pilots)- http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/113260

(approaching Mustafar)- http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/113261

Both used VLC screenshots, so the quality is a little lower, as I'm continuing to reorganize my computer's files to make sure I have the space on my built in hard drive that I need for the full 4K lossless 4:2:2 upsampling of the source material (I previously upscaled in the same project files as the grades, but it really makes little sense in terms of efficiency.)

From BBC News:

Asked about the secrecy surrounding the script, Abrams added: "We did the best we can to preserve the story for the audience, but it doesn't always work.

"There are a ton of rumours - some true, some false. But I'm grateful for everyone who would want to read a spoiler because it means that they care and want to see the movie.

"I know what it feels like, as an enormous Star Wars fan myself."

Hmmm..... who is "The Witch's Familiar," I wonder?

The "Witch" in question is presumably Missy.... but who's the Clara to her Doctor?

I wonder if they're setting up a new companion for when Jenna finally leaves the show. Here's hoping they don't go with somebody else from present-day Earth this time.

OR it could be the witch is the one from the Night Of The Doctor, since it states that the actress is returning as well. Maybe the episode could explain possibly how Missy came about.

Then again, your idea makes more sense in terms of what the title seems to suggest.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

why cap at 720p? no 1080p?

The current OT Bluray transfers only hold up to 720p, there is no detail loss between a 1080p and 720p using the outdated Lowry masters.

Also, the rendering times is greatly increased in 1080p when compared to 720p.

Furthermore, the revisited PT will require more drastic cropping to certain shots, as well as (maybe) integration of upscaled deleted scenes. So 720p, across the saga is better for consistentsy.

yes, screenshot comparison went down recently, and Vimeo nearly banned me out. After I got two copyright strikes, one of which was on a private video. Not sure where I should upload future clips.

Also, I see that Magic Bullet suite got a completely new version now. I'll have to look into whether I want to spend the money to upgrade or not yet.

A couple questions:

1. Are you using the Blu-Ray upscales, or are you using the DVDs and upscaling them yourself?

2. If you're using the BR's, are you converting it back to 25fps from the slowed-down 23.976 of the BR upscales? How are you handling the audio if you're converting 23.976 back to 25 - using the DVD audio, or speeding up the BR audio?

3. If you're using the DVDs, are you using the PAL discs as a source or the NTSC's?

4. How's that prequel regrade project coming? ;)

1. the bluray upscales, though I'm considering using the PAL DVD's if the quality would be better.

2. still haven't decided on this yet, 1080p 25fps works on an mkv, so it's a possibility. not sure how i'd deal with the audio just yet.

3. if I use the DVD's, PAL would be the way to go with the extra resolution.

4. this hasn't been taking much of my time up, as I only just started to look at making the non-HD doctor who episodes look much improved. I'd probably consider the tennant specials and series 5 since they were still not shot on the beautiful ARRI Alexa's that Series 6 and on have shot with. I have yet to make a thread on this, since the prequel regrades are going to be finished before any big work on a DW project starts. I'd hope there'd be interest out there for this kind of project when I do get it into full gear quite a while from now.

This confirms:

- Again mentioning them using practical fx wherever possible, and often using CG to remove rather than add things, such as in the case of BB-8.

Where does it say that BB-8 was practical with CG to remove things?

They did not mention the ball droid in the interview at all.

Okay I meant was that what he was saying seems to suggest that BB-8 is truly practical and had wheels removed from him digitally in post as some source claimed. What he says doesn't outright confirm it, but it does make sense. I should have clarified that.

Possible, but only maybe to the fall. I'd be hard to believe they'd move it up back to the summer.

In addition, here JJ talks more about TFA himself.

http://youtu.be/1zjAtb2Nqmg

This confirms:

- He's executive producing Episode 8 and 9 (similar to what George did for ESB and ROTJ)

- They haven't even finished a first rough cut of the film yet.

- Again mentioning them using practical fx wherever possible, and often using CG to remove rather than add things, such as in the case of BB-8.

- Despite this, there will still be much CG, but that it is the combination between the two that counts.

Yes, I did see that. Nice for people who just want TPM as it would look without the pink tint but no DNR.

In short, I have finally narrowed down a simple yet effective grade method for TPM. As known, TPM was shot mostly on film so it doesn't truly have as many of the problems as being shot digitally. So it doesn't need such drastic filmic color changes.

So I've pretty much made it this my workflow in AE:

VC Color Vibrance (allows me to adjust the overall WB of an image more accurately)

Colorista II (adjusts Red, Green, and Blue Curves individually)

Colorista II 2 (adjusts shadows, midtones, highlights and ranged HSL)

Cineon Converter (flattens image so I can apply a LUT)

Apply Color LUT (ImpulZ Kodak 2283- this is what TPM was printed to for theatre prints)

FilmConvert Pro 2 (film grain and levels adjustments)

So anyway, that podcast got me all fired up to watch all of the making of stuff on the blu-ray. WHAT A TEASE THAT STUFF IS. Gunn talks about some awesome cut stuff in that podcast but none of it is included in the deleted scenes or seen anywhere in the bonus features. There's so much material they held back and I WANT IT NOW!

Well the Phase 1 Boxset had an extra 27 minutes of deleted scenes, 88 minutes of animatics, and 65 minutes of pre-vis, which all adds up to 3 hours of unseen content right there.

So I have sneaking suspicion, much of that other cut material will end up on the Phase 2 Boxset.

I waited to purchase the phase 1 Boxset, and will be doing the same for each and every upcoming movie phase, which is hard considering that GOTG is just such a fun movie.
