Did DKR warn us about recent "False Flag" shootings?
Time

^His recent works definitely are an acquired taste. I'm actually going through Shadows in Flight right now. But I'm glad you appreciate his older stuff and don't let his views taint your opinions.

@bkev, I hope you are not getting irritated at me, because I don't even know whom you're referring to or what the problem is.

@AnctuFaalb--first, it's a pain in the butt to write your name because I have to look and make sure I'm spelling it right every time; second, I think we get along great as well, in spite of differences. I get along well with most people, regardless of political affiliation. It's when I read crap like the comments in Huffington Post or other similar comments from those who claim to be all-accepting that I get infuriated.

And I gotta be honest, just because one disagrees with American politics, to judge all Americans, or at least those who lean conservative as insane or moronic is, to put it mildly, offensive. And to judge someone, not based upon their individual qualities, but rather as a member of a group does, in fact, qualify as prejudice bigotry, even if someone wears the proud credentials of being pro-gay marriage and anti-racism.

Being from different cultures, our worldviews are different. But to say one is superior than the other is not as all-accepting as so many liberals claim to be.

I certainly oppose. For one thing, I'm more of a fence sitter on the topic. For another, I feel insurrection should be a last resort and we were heading towards the Fourth Reich. Just because I like a man's characters and stories certainly doesn't mean I like his political views. If such were the case, you can bet I wouldn't be a member of a Star Wars site ;)

Current Events. No debates!
Time

To maintain a thread where we can express our shock, hopes, and other news without having to worry about it turning into an argument, I am creating this thread. It can be used for any topic, as long as it simply is informative or expressive, but not argumentative.

Most of us are shocked and horrified at the news of the gunman in CT shooting and killing 28 people, most of them 6 and 7 years old. It truly breaks my heart. As I’ve made no secret of my religious affiliation, and as I feel an affinity to others of my faith, it is worth noting that one of the children comes from an LDS family. I am saddened by the loss of all those who died, but it feels extra personal when one of them the same church as you do, even if it was a thousand miles away.

If you simply wish to share your feelings in a non-combative manner, stay here and share your pain. Please keep it friendly, and if you feel you need to discuss something a little more contentious, find another thread for it, please.

Info: The Redemption Of Anakin Skywalker - whole SW series edited to one 3hr epic
Time

It does sound interesting, but since similar projects have been done before, it would do you good to give more specifics on the nature of your project. I hope that doesn't sound rude. Just tell us, what makes yours special and different? What did you emphasize and what did you cut? Were there themes that differentiates yours from others? Obviously redemption plays a role, so give us a vague idea (preserving any secrets you want to) of how you made that stand out. :)

Thanks for that.  I actually like the way this sounds.  My worry about making the book into a trilogy is that it is such a different book for the LOTR trilogy.  While LOTR was an epic tale with numerous characters, The Hobbit was simply an adventure tale.  I was worried that a trilogy like this wouldn't capture that quality and would transform too much of the tale into a different sort of story.  Your review really is encouraging.  Capturing more dialogue and interplay between the dwarves is key to maintaining the adventure feeling, I think.  I also like the idea of keeping the original songs.

The Troll Speculation Thread
Time

To be more broad in scope than the Dogs Wearing Hats thread, I'm starting this so we can talk about any troll and if they are making forays into the forum under different identities.

So were these two threads started by the real Father Skywalker?

Boy, in spite of my intended mocking, I simply can't come up with such lengthy posts when spoofing the guy.

The sexy Bill Will (Billy Dee Williams) Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time

When I first head of handsome devil Bill Will, I had no idea of his middle name.  All I knew was his middle initial, D.  It was painful for me to idolize a man whom I only knew as Billy D. Williams.  It felt so incomplete; how could I worship someone if I wasn't completely familiar with him.  Then one day I learned his middle name: Dee.  I was complete!  From then on, he was no longer Billy D. Williams; he was Billy Dee Williams!  I could now adore the whole old smoothie!

Idea: Star Wars OT Unabridged Audio Books Project
Time

About the time I first found this site, I started listening to Star Wars audio books.  I really enjoy audio books, and since I prefer as complete a story as possible, I always seek the unabridged version.  For the longest time, Wookieepedia stated that the OT had an unabridged version, but my quest to find it proved fruitless, and Wookieepedia was eventually changed (not by me).  Now, the PT got very high quality audio books.  Several other Star Wars stories got unabridged audio books.  But the OT did not.  I suspect that part of the reason was to remove portions that were not in line with how the movies played out, such as elements that highlighted that Vader and Anakin were originally different individuals or that the Emperor was originally a figurehead.  But I really like the OT novels and would love to see them with a high quality unabridged audio book set.

What I am proposing is a project to record our own OT unabridged audio books that could be distributed as freely as desired across the World Wide Web.  I’ve had a desire to do this for some time, but I haven’t gotten around to it, and I’m tied up with another project at the present in my limited spare time.  However, if no one gets on this, I’m sure I’ll eventually record my voice, pleasantly divine as it is 😉  I also would ultimately be able to edit it too, if no one with more time or talent wanted to do it.  But even if I end up being the one to get it that far, I wouldn’t be very good at adding special effects, if we really wanted an extra fun version.  I definitely can’t do it alone, and I probably wouldn’t be able to do any of it for a long time.  But what I’m also saying is that if someone else wanted to do it, it’s definitely a worthwhile project in my mind, and I thought I should propose it.

If anyone you are referring to qualifies for Medicaid, there is actually quite a lot of help out there for the mentally ill.  I admit that the system isn't great, but one can get help, even if he/she can't afford it.  Actually, most people who do need help can't afford it, so most are reliant on Medicaid.  Look into that for whoever you're referring to.  As for stigma, I won't argue with that at all.  But many people function well with a mental illness and the subsequent help.  Those agencies that provide assistance are bound by law to protect such private information, and the whole world need not know that our person in question has a mental illness.  It can also be an opportunity to educate and show people that mental illness is a real affliction, just like diabetes, and that we shouldn't judge someone because they have an illness.

So why did Lando have to go and completely destroy the DEATH STAr II??????? I mean, Wedge already destroyed the north tower, disabling the main power channel and likely disabling the superlaser, the most power-draining device on the station. Why did Lando, aka divine, juicy Bill Will, have to go and destroy the generator itself, thus destroying the entire station and killing hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives!?!?!?!?!?!? Many in the Empire were not evil...just certain leaders. Moff Jerjerrod was probably mostly good. But maybe he survived the DEATH STAr explosion. Can anyone back this up with some EU sources??????????

The Hobbit movie: Dwarves
Time

@Tobar... :)

@mrebo...I guess the Necromancer was originally just a plot device until LOTR, where he was supposed to be the same individual.  But Tolkein didn't have it all mapped out yet when he wrote The Hobbit.

http://www.shmoop.com/hobbit/the-necromancer.html

So I'm wondering, how do folks here enjoy the frame rate?  How was the story?  Would it have been better to keep the story as one or two films?  Or do you think it made a good first of three tales?

In Defense of Death Star II
Time

I agree completely that the DSII shouldn't have been built so fast. I personally hold that the Empire was actually building it shortly after the construction on the DSI had begun. But other than that, I do think they're comparable. I mean no disrespect (in spite of my snotty previous comment--sorry), but the Borg cubes were just as frightening as the Death Star to me. A single cube was sent to assimilate earth. Of course it failed. So what did the Borg do? They sent another single cube to assimilate earth! Yet I love The Best of Both Worlds and I love First Contact. The reason being that the stories are well told in spite of repeated elements.

Building a second station is logical in many ways. Look what the US is doing. We're nearly done constructing new World Trade Centers, i.e. new prominent terrorist targets.

The DSII wasn't the most original idea for ROTJ. But in my opinion, it wasn't really that bad. The stakes did need to be raised, and I personally have yet to really enjoy any of the other superweapons existing in the Star Wars universe, except perhaps Centerpoint Station which was large and required massive amounts of power, was still vulnerable (e.g. no stupid Sun Crusher armor), was stationary, and destroyed its targets in a different method. Every other superweapon idea throughout the EU was honestly just plain stupid.

That thing, you know, under a star destroyer...
Time

Not trying to argue over such a moot point because in most cases you are correct, even in your Hitchhiker's references. I know it's not worth arguing over such meaningless technobabble anyway, but what the heck.

There is a tendency to refer to stars with planets orbiting them as 'suns' on occasion. However, truly there is only one sun, and whether capitalized or in lower case, it is still only the star around which earth orbits. Similarly, the same has been done in reference to 'solar systems'.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/solar+system

Again, I want to emphasize that in it's truest meaning you are correct: the Solar System is specifically the star system with Sol, the sun, at its center. However in numerous laymen's lexicon, a solar system is any star system, and 'solar' is the adjectival description of any star with orbiting planets.

So what's my point? Well, it's that there are clearly little planets orbiting that fusion reactor inside all star destroyers!

Now can anyone tell me where I left my tachyon pulse generating hydrospanner? I seem to remember leaving it with my quantum fission inductor, but now it's not there.

So who thinks Lando died in the second Death Star explosion??? I know we see him escape the flames, but according to the script he dies. Can anyone confirm that he survived?????????????? Is there an EU source that tells us that really it was his clone flying the Falcon out of the Death Star????? I think it's really possible that Lando let a clone fly the machine while he stayed behind to cause additional sabotage to ensure the Death Star blew up completely!!!! Anyone else agree with me????
