The Enderverse (WAS: Finally! Ender's Game emerges from Development Hell!)
Time

Reviews for the movie are pretty heartening. I was a little nervous this would suck, but I believe that in spite of controversial views, the film adaptation of OSC's most popular book is bound to be pretty successful.

JEDIT: As I suspected, though, its difficulty in translating to film. I never expected it to be as enjoyable or deep as the book, and it looks like I may be right. I just want it to be enjoyable.

Destroying a capital ship like a Mon Calamari cruiser still took a great deal of firepower from a similar ship, such as a star destroyer. And in order to unleash its full power on the Mon Cal cruiser meant getting close enough for return fire with damaged/destroyed ships and loss of life. It seems logical to use a weapon that could easily overwhelm the opponent's shields and destroy the ship without incurring any loss on your own part. The superlaser could easily be dialed down from its full planet-destroying level and recharged quickly enough to take out several ships. It's a smart tactical move: pin your opponent against a wall (the Imperial Fleet in this case) and use your overpowering weapon against them. It then is simply a shooting gallery. And yes, they are all on "the forest moon of Endor," so what else would they shoot?

I suspect you missed the point of this thread. It, along with half my new threads, is intended to mock those who are so sure of their opinion that they feel it necessary to state it as beyond debate. It annoys me. But you are welcome to YOSO (your own stupid opinion) ;)

In contrast to using the acronym IMO (in my opinion) or IMHO (in my humble opinion), I am advocating a more confident approach to discussion and debate. I believe certain folks who have no doubt that their opinions are beyond anyone's ability to disagree should adopt the following acronym: OMOIV, which stands for Only My Opinion Is Valid. End every paragraph with that acronym, and no one will bother arguing with you, and you can rest assured that you are absolutely right about everything you say.

Gosh, see how accommodating I am? I always want to help everyone! I want even those who lack humble opinions to be able to express their true feelings uninhibited, and with as few keystrokes as possible :)

Let me explain a little about nuclear power. Fallout comes from radioactive byproducts of a nuclear explosion. A fusion reaction can only be caused by intense pressure and/or intense heat. The only way we have been able to provide enough heat to set off a sustainable reaction is through...a fission reaction.

Fusion is clean. When two hydrogen atoms (or dueterium, or tritium, which are variants of hydrogen that include neutrons) combine, they form a couple of different products, depending on the nature of the which forms of hydrogen are used, either helium or lithium, as well as neutrons and energy. Helium and lithium are not radioactive, and therefore do not leave fallout messes. Fission, on the other hand, is not so clean, the products of split uranium or plutonium reactions are quite radioactive, take years and years to decay to a safe point, and can get into the air or elsewhere to spread long distances with far-reaching effects. The reason nuclear weapons or reactors cause such lasting damage is because of the fission reactions that are used to trigger the reaction. If we were dealing with a reactor that did not have to utilize any fission reaction to trigger or sustain it, such as that used in the movie, it would not cause any fallout or lasting radioactive pollution.

Now, depending on the size of the explosion, we still have the issue of initial damage. The explosion would still send out highly energetic neutrons, gamma radiation, heat, and sheer explosive force. If it were a small enough reaction (as you might imagine would take place in a controlled reactor), then an out of control reaction would likely be relatively small. If the explosion took place far enough away, the damage it would cause might not be so lethal. That said, I don't believe that Batman could have possibly gotten far enough away in such a short time to get sufficient distance, nor do I believe 9 miles (is that right,?...Been a bit since I've seen it) would be a safe enough distance, as I believe even a small fusion explosion would be larger than that. So people in Gotham, at least those closest to the reaction, would be affected.

But bear in mind that exploding reactors in the real world, such as Chernobyl's reactor, did not produce a massively violent explosion equivalent to a bomb of a similar nature. It's explosion was rather small. But the radioactive damage it spread was really the deadly problem. So we can imagine something similar would take place in the movie.

I agree, it would have been best to avoid something like this, IMO. But I do believe that while it's not realistic, it's not the most grievous of unscientific movie mistakes. I'm okay with overlooking inaccuracy in movies if they are not outrageous, and this is not an outrageous error. It still fits in the suspension of disbelief I have established for the Nolanverse Batman series.

That's my thought. Capture the whole thing,, spread it around as widely and discreetly as possible, and then there's no way to shut it down. Releasing it piecemeal on as high profile a site as FB invites legal troubles. If they can get deleted scenes removed from YouTube, why wouldn't they be able to do the same with this project? I could be wrong and don't necessarily understand the legal loopholes like the Freedom of Information Act, but it just seems to be inviting trouble, and this is such a precious and rare resource, I'd hate for the control freaks to put an end to this amazing find.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I was watching the other day, and a few things came up.

First, as Luke escapes the Wampa's cave, there are gusts of wind heard, and flurries of snowflakes blowing sideways, but these are not always synchronized. I think they should be.

Second, I noticed that Luke stood on one hand earlier, then two hands later when he is supposedly more developed. Clearly it is harder to stand on one hand, so I think these shots should be switched.

Third, there is not nearly enough tongue action between Luke and Leia. I mean, she's trying to make Han jealous, right? She needs to really tickle Luke's tonsils! This can be done with CGI of course.

Fourth, I find it hard to believe that Han is getting any decent Internet wi-fi connection inside an asteroid in the Anoat system. Perhaps we should at least see a dish pop up and a reference to how many bars he's getting so we know how he's receiving such up-to-date info on who's running Cloud City these days.

Fifth, by the time the captain of the star destroyer with the smashed bridge reacts to the asteroid impact, he should have already been sucked into space. What took so long? Latency?

Sixth, I think it'd be totally cool if Vader yelled, "NOOOOOOOO!" when Luke let's go of the rail and plummets.

Eighth, I am very confident that the lighting reflecting off Veers' helmet changes very slightly between shots as he advances on the Rebel base, and it is extremely jarring. In fact, the whole scene is a mess and needs an overhaul!

Sorry to point these out so close to the end, but I sure won't be happy if they aren't rectified. ;)

Darth Vader TV Specials set for 2014
Time

I too hope for a live-action series. I can imagine, if enough material is produced, it could be used as part of an alternative fanedited PT. I've often thought of what could serve better, and part of my thoughts included a TCW edit for an Episode II. If it were even changed to Episode I Episode III could be used for Episode II, and then these TV specials could become a new Episode III. I see many great possibilities, if handled properly.
