Star Wars: Order 66 (ROTS + TCW + The Bad Batch + Tartakovsky's Clone Wars) (released)
Time

Centred on the events of Order 66, this edit combines Revenge of the Sith, The Siege of Mandalore arc from season seven of The Clone Wars, the events leading up to the Siege of Coruscant from Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars microseries, and the first episode of The Bad Batch, all into a single whopping five-and-a-half-hour movie.

The different stories are intercut so the timing of simultaneous events matches up, complimenting each other thematically and giving a sweeping, epic scope to one of the largest events in Galactic History. It’s all in there, even the deleted scenes from ROTS. This is an edit for the true completionist.

To give fair credit: this fanedit is mostly the work of Dan Hilton over in Sithposting Discussion Group on Facebook, and has been posted with his blessing. He combined ROTS, TCW, and CW into a four-hour-twenty-minute Revenge of the Sith Supercut last year; I’ve come along and added The Bad Batch, turning it into what I’ve been calling an Ultracut, as well as creating a new custom title for the opening. His edit is fantastic and deserves greater recognition, and I was very lucky to be able to add to it.

If you’ve got a long afternoon to spare and feel like experiencing the full weight of the fall of the Republic, then this is the movie for you.

I think it would be good to beef it out with some more BDW content. Lando has surely said some inspirational stuff in Rebels or any of the Lego stuff.

Ps, not to change topic, but I’ve started watching through the ST for “I am a Jedi” Rey dialogue. Only able to watch a scene a day, but there’s no hard deadline, so I’ll keep plugging away at it.

 • Never Surrender for that scene of Anakin and Padme looking off into the sunset from different parts of Coruscant.

 • The Bangles’ version of Hazy Shade of Winter for Palpatine’s Arrest.

 • Burning Heart for the Mustafar duel.

 • Weird Science for Vader’s reconstruction, with additional shots taken from the music video for it and Batman Forever to make Palpatine’s lab extra cooky.

 • The rest of the soundtrack (instrumentals) is taken from 80s Doctor Who.

 • Color regrade inspired by Joel Schumacher’s Batman films.

 • MTV logo in the bottom corner.

 • Slightly degraded VHS look. Not too overdone though.

 • Use next-generation hair simulation technology to increase everyone’s hair volume.

 • Deepfake 80s actors onto the existing ones.

And there we have it, Direct-to-Video Revenge of the Sith (1989). Unfortunately, there’s no room for Michael Jackson’s Jar Jar due to the character’s more or less absence from the film.

Is it possible to see that clip?

Ask TheAlaskanSandman. I’d rather not have to go through the trouble of reuploading it myself if it can be avoided.

I know this gets said jokingly in this thread a lot, but (other than the deepfakes joke) this would be a really cool comedic edit of ROTS and I would absolutely watch it.

I saved a link to the post so that I can make you this edit when I get around to fanediting again. This would be a simple ~1 hour project, aside from stuff like the hair I probably wouldn’t actually do. Then again, I’d actually have to host this thing somewhere. It also opens up a can of worms of similar edits for the other films. That post was more just me killing time sharing my playlist than anything else. Kinda tempted to do Palpy’s Weird Science though.

Wait, Oingo Boingo’s frontman is Danny Elfman?! I never knew!!

Dude. If you actually made that and had nowhere to host it I’d park it on my own Google Drive for people.

I feel like the decision comes down to a tension between these two aims: 1) improve the enjoyability of each scene as it happens onscreen, and 2) improve the overall quality of the narrative.

I’m always in the latter category; even if it means cutting the coolest bit of a movie, I think it’s more important to stay on target thematically. I personally don’t think the proposed change weakens the Kijimi section by being muddy or makes 3PO’s sacrifice feel less necessary overall… but… I haven’t watched a workprint to put it into context. When the scene is put back into the movie, it might feel very different to watching it isolated and just imagining what it would be like in context. So perhaps it really is better to hew closer to the theatrical, I don’t know. But I do think it’s about figuring out the balance between individual scenes and overall narrative.

Also, if we can get someone else to dub 3PO, that would be awesome. It was fun to record the lines of poetry but my goodness do I think someone else could do a much better job.

Also, sherlockpotter, did you stitch the very end of the “I am all the Sith” shot onto the end of “no match for the power in me”? If so, bravo, because I can’t tell unless I’m reverse engineering it. lol

All credit where it’s due: sade1212 is the one who did the incredible work restructuring Palp’s dialogue; I just stapled my line onto the end.

On that note, how do people think this version sounds? Like Hal said before, this line especially has to be pretty much perfect: https://streamable.com/mdw8w1

Oh, and I also nudged the timing of, and added a wee little exhale after, Rey’s “I…” to fill in the gap a bit (from removing “And-”), but that can go if people don’t like it.

In the interest of making the changes to the finale as perfect as possible, I just want to double check if anyone has any issues with the demo I shared here? If no one mentions anything, I’ll assume it’s good enough and I’ll send the audio to Hal.

Just want to make sure people had the chance to see this and weigh in with any potential criticisms, given how quickly this thread moves!

Is there any other source of “am” that we could use in there? I’ve been trying to figure out what the issue I have with it is, and I’ve finally realised it’s that I hear it as “I… I’m a Jedi,” which feels weird. Unless I’m the only one who hears that, I think it’s worth trying to replace that syllable so it’s clear that it’s “I… am a Jedi.”

The Rise of Skywalker Expanded Edition by Rae Carson: The "Tragedy of Vader" Edit (v2 NOW AVAILABLE)

I just finished reading through the entire novelization and made a few adjustments throughout. Overall, I feel like it’s in a good place for a v1 release. I can’t say that for sure, though, as I didn’t read it out loud. Regardless, I’ll likely prep for release within the next week or so.

I’ll probably release a v2 once Captain Faraday reads through it all. That will likely be by the end of the year. Until then, I’m putting my sights on the TLJ novelization.

I’m flattered how highly my opinion is regarded! I’m hoping I’ll be able to get back to my edit in the next month, then my brain will be free to read this properly. I’m very keen to read it.

I was pretty adamantly against the “Sith voices” idea, but that test clip has won me over. I think it works great for all the reasons everyone’s saying.

With the hologram masking, Sio Bibble’s hologram (and Palpatine’s) flicker and get interrupted in TPM; I don’t remember if there’s an accompanying sound, but if there is, could it be lifted from there?

I think a lot of his introduction would need to be impossibly changed for it to work (eg, dialogue with Uncle Owen). I agree with your assessments - I’m personally of the opinion that the theatrical ANH works perfectly as it is - but that said, I still think it would be an interesting alternative version to see (like the Scene 38 short movie).

I’ve been wondering about how to have an onscreen reveal of Vader learning Luke’s identity in ESB and I think it might be possible if you repurpose the Admiral Ozzel Force Choke call into one between Vader & Boba Fett.

(Since I’m using a foreign language dub for my edit I’m working without the spoken-words-matching-meaning constraint but since my plan involves two characters wearing full-face masks, I think a lot of this could still apply.)

Mockup to come, but here’s how I’d tackle it at the start of ESB:

 • Pan down on Executor and Vader in chamber as General Veers leaves and he turns to make call.
 • Tune in on Fett taking the call, as good of a straight-on head shot as possible. (If you could have him in the Slave 1 pilot seat, that would be better.)
 • Vader asks for his report.
 • Fett says he’s still looking but he has found a name for the boy: Skywalker.
 • Silent beat on Vader.
 • Fett says Vader?
 • Vader says continue your search.
 • Fett signs off As you wish. Hangs up.
 • Vader spins back around.
 • Vader walking to the bridge window.
 • Vader looks out & says Skywalker.

Along with this I would tweak the crawl to change ‘young Skywalker’ to ‘the young pilot’. And I would not have Palpatine say Skywalker’s name specifically in his Skype with Vader, so the Emperor just knows this Rebel kid is powerful & dangerous and wants Vader to kill him.

If you didn’t know Vader was Skywalker, Fett’s info could just be a shock to Vader that the Jedi he killed had a kid and his later deflection of Palpatine’s order could be read as just serving his master.

If you do know he’s Luke’s father, you get to see his shock at finding out he has a son (and that Palpatine lied to him if you’d seen ROTS) and could be seen in hindsight as the start of him hatching an actual plan to use Luke for his revenge on Palpatine.

Plus it kinda makes Fett stand out a little more as Vader’s bounty hunter of choice.

I really like this idea.

I agree the thematic use of the Sith Spinning Scream is a bit shaky, but in terms of how it would sound in the moment, I really love the idea. It’s worth trying out at least.

I definitely think its worth testing the sound right as he explodes; or slightly after.
Found a way more echoed version in SWBFII,

I really think this is great.

I agree. I think it actually works fine in context, plus it just sounds right.

Personally not a fan of the “voices”. The film offers a simple explanation: the spirits of the Sith live inside Palpatine, that’s it. It’s fine that this concept is only introduced in this film because it just builds on Palpatine’s character of pure evil, I wouldn’t want to overcomplicate things, it would be retroactively odd to never see or hear anything like that from Palpatine anywhere else before. Maybe it could work to replicate the raspy voice from ep. III as a callback(though I don’t think it’s necessary), but not anything as excessive as a legion of voices.

I don’t like the parallel to the Jedi voices, it basically puts them on equal ground, where I feel it works better to imply the Sith are essentially trapped inside Palpatine as a hive mind whereas the Jedi are free individuals who each have their own free will and literally stand on their own.

And there’s also the issue of muddling things even more, firstly with the opening scene where Palpatine speaks in the voices of Vader and Snoke, despite neither of them being part of the Sith conglomerate, and secondly with the whispering dagger, which I think should stand as it’s own separate dark side thing, and not imply Palpatine is literally guiding Rey around, specially since Hal has removed the “I never wanted you dead” angle and the film is already stuffed with “Palpatine was behind it all” elements. Just my two cents on the matter…

I personally agree with this. Although I can appreciate the sound editing work that’s being done, I think it’s thematically stronger to leave it as it currently is.

Puppets: Is the “clunk” sound effect of the puppets going to be added back in? I liked it. Either way, this footage blows my mind every time I see it.

If the puppeteers should also make sound effects is definitely the next question for this thing. Perhaps the clunk could be left in when the AT-AT gets hit? Obviously it isn’t a metal puppet, but if we threw in some other sounds, it might make it more obvious that they’re being made for dramatic effect from beneath the stage or whatever.

I think that would be clear from the context - I didn’t think about the clunk sound at all until it wasn’t present.

Edit: I agree it should be when the AT-AT gets hit.
