I like both effects in the stills, but I think I’d need to see them both in motion to determine which looks better.
Just to pull an idea RogueLeader had in the TROS ideas thread for everyone’s consideration…
Kind of building on the idea of the crackly Skywalker saber, I think it could be interesting if during Kylo and Rey’s duel on the Death Star, that Rey’s saber was almost becoming “overloaded” from the constant saber-clashing, and starts shorting out by the end of the duel. For example, in the shot where Rey sort of shakes her hand, you could have the saber fluttering in and out. Then finally, when Kylo keeps hammering away at Rey while she is on the ground, we could see the saber give out while Kylo is raising his to deliver the final blow. This would give a reason for why Rey grabs Kylo’s saber and stabs him with it, rather than just using her own.
I think it would add an interesting aspect to the duel that we haven’t really seen before, where our characters are dealing with a malfunctioning weapon. It also gives Rey a practical reason for why she inevitably builds her own.
This is something I really think would be great to fully realise. 😃

If this is something feasible that someone here is able to do, it would be one of the best changes possible. I’m still frustrated that JJ completely ignored Luke’s saber getting broken in half.
Wonderful! I too really like the theory that Leia conjured the Han apparition. My interpretation is that Leia, with Luke’s help, used her remaining life force to conjure Han.

I’m trying to find a clip that someone had made incorporating the Vader fight from SeizeTheFrame’s “Force of Darkness” fanfilm into the opening Mustafar scenes of TRoS. Does anyone here remember who made that or where I can find it?
At the risk of annoying everybody, I put together another version of my tie sequence including a brand new shot of the ties with the castle in the background.
Please keep in mind that I’m doing this purely for my own enjoyment, not to try to impress anyone or to try to convince Hal9000 to include this in his edit. I’ll be putting this in my own personal edit, but if anyone wants to use it in theirs, that would be cool, too.

I love this opening so much. Whenever the Rey Nobody cut is all done, I’m definitely gonna add your opening scene to it.
DominicCobb released his workprint of his edit. He presented a very creative alternative for the hanger scene for a Rey Nobody version.

perhaps we could get a subtle “Rey” or “No” before he rises to face Palpatine and his face is obscured or when he is struggling to Rey after returning from his descent down the pit.

The only KoR voice line where something about it sounds off to me personally (no offense to the VA) is “Solo’s Wookie.” on Passana (Though I agree it’s the best option from Axlanian’s project). And it’s an important line because it’s the first time the KoR speak in this edit. Maybe pitching it down would make it better.

^ I think it looks pretty okay. Doesn’t stand up to tough scrutiny, but that shot in particular looks pretty sharp and good to my eyes.
Here’s a version I like a little better, including Wedge instead of the tail end of the shot, breaking up multiple shots of a bunch of ships and allowing the music not to be cut up.
I’m not sure if this has the same impact. While I was timing the audio for the Fleet voices, I kept getting chills at how the “For Skywalker!” shouts come in right after Poe and RIGHT on the high note of the music. This drawn-out shot doesn’t hit the same way. It’s definitely a cool shot visually, but it’s missing the Oomph we had before.
Watching the Ben vs KOR,
I can’t help but feel the ‘it’s over, Ben’ line is totally off.
I think we missed a trick not having one (or all) screaming ‘Traitor!!!’

I agree with this. When I put the voice pack together for the KoR, I included a couple of “Traitor!” shouts for this very reason. Hal, if you’re needing a different take, let me know and I’ll yell into a mic for a bit.
Axlanian is working on tweaking the audio for the 3PO/trooper interaction, but I haven’t heard any line suggestions I like better than what RogueLeader did.

Maybe add any Jedi actors’ songs who have recorded ant to the Exegol confrontation, singing rather than speaking to Rey.
On Kijimi, the KoR step into frame and the apparent leader says, “Palpatine wants the girl alive. Kill the rest.”
Since no one has mentioned it I need to point out that when we’re on Kijimi Palpatine still (supposedly) wants Rey dead. And during the force bond duel Kylo implies he sent Ochi to kill her. “Why would he want to kill a child?” etc.
The reveal that he wants her alive comes long after, when Finn talks to D-O on Ajan Kloss, and he discovers Ochi was actually supposed to take Rey to Palpatine alive, which for some reason we’re supposed to take as Palpatine still wanting her alive(?).
And this idea is only cemented once Rey reaches Exegol and Palpatine says “I never wanted you dead, I wanted you here”.
Point is that line doesn’t make sense at that point in the story, Palpatine is supposed to want Rey dead, while Kylo wants to turn her, and the Knights of Ren are working for Kylo, not Palpatine, he is their Leader, they only turn to Palpatine when Ben “betrays” them by turning to the light.
“Kylo wants the girl alive, kill the rest” would make much more sense at that point in the story. It doesn’t spoil the “reveal”, it works with what Kylo says in Passana, “I don’t want to have to kill you”, and it would be an opportunity to show Kylo’s bond with his Knights, as he trusts them enough to tell them his real plan, while he tells the people at the board room they’re going “hunting for the scavenger”. This would add more tragedy to their eventual duel, giving it a real sense of betrayal.
“Palpatine wants the girl alive” works to the opposite effect, making it seem the KoR are privy to more information than Kylo, since he believes Palpatine wants her dead, so it makes it seem like they had a direct link to Palpatine and were working on their own, always ready or planning to turn on Kylo. I don’t like this personally, we’ve seen enough bad guys plotting to betray their Masters, it would be more interesting to have the Leader betray his Knights, a bittersweet tragedy that results from his turn to the light.
Okay, this was definitely an oversight. I have taken the “Kylo Ren” from a different line and inserted it where “Palpatine” was. I’ve created two variations, one of “Kylo” and one of “Kylo Ren” for each of the two voices. Yup. The point of the voice pack was to give options, including every good line idea that users here agreed on recording. I trust Hal’s judgment to see the big picture and include the lines that work best in the movie as a whole.
I like it how it is in the workprint. It clearly plays like there was a longer message and we’re just hearing the tail end of it. I don’t think adding more of the message would lead to any sort of substantial improvement.

I’ll get back into that, but I was really struggling to come up with anything to have him say. I’ll throw a bunch of options in there and then see if any of it works, but any suggestions would be VERY welcome.
I might’ve missed it in this huge discussion, but has anyone tried to do anything about “Knights of Ren… Cool”? It still feels really forced (Heh) and unnecessary imo.
The second trooper says “Ghouls!”, and I agree it should be removed (if that hasn’t already been done).
Hi Hal! Just checking in to say I’ve received the final revisions for each of the Knights of Ren voices. I’m applying the final effects and will have the voice pack (two different people for each knight, and multiple line options for each scene) ready tomorrow!
