I’ll tell you what I didn’t like about TFA.

That squished and asymmetric Star Destroyer.

According to the R1 trailer, the Empire seems to have gone in the reverse order when building the first Death Star (as compared to the second one in ROTJ):

• DS1: the entire battle station is actually built first, and then the Superlaser focusing dish is placed at the completion stage.
• DS2: the Superlaser dish and the surrounding area are built first, the rest remains +/- unfinished.

Interestingly, the finale of ROTS (though I personally prefer not regard the PT as canon) shows a DS1 superstructure with the superlaser dish skeleton already in place.

The Spanish version is also (I think) the only one which uses the Italian intro as a template for the Spanish one. The other ones are based on the MGM’s English version.

Thanks for the amount of work! I am not a big fan of the International cut (my first experience with GBU being a German restoration of the Italian cut of the movie from the 90s) but still, I think it should be preserved as a historical document.

Shifting aspect ratios is quite senseless, IMHO. Christopher Nolan started it; no reason for other directors to follow in his footsteps.

Also, there are some discrepancies in translation between parts. In EpIV, “Emperor” was translated as “Kaiser”, in V and VI as “Imperator”. In EpV, Jabba was translated als “der Hutte”, in VI as “the Hutt”.

Plus, the “a long time ago” text was translated differently in EpVI.

Right. Did the germans change some name like in the french release ?

No, they kept the original names. The droid names are pronounced according to the German pronounciation of their names’ letters though.

And, for some reason they chose to pronounce “Jedi” as [yedi:], not like it sounds in English.

Das könnte man eventuell replizieren, sehe ich momentan aber nicht als Priorität an (die Verzerrung ist
auch keine Kissenverzerrung - das hat lediglich beim etwas krumm gebauten Logo von TESB und ROTJ den
Eindruck.

Also ich habe eher das Gefühl, das it tatsächlich Verzerrung in der Optik. Die verändert sich mit dem Abstand des Logos von der Kamera. Auch beim Lauftext kann man sie gut erkennen (bei den Buchstaben, die näher an der Kamera dran sind - an den Seiten biegen sie sich leicht nach oben).

Was mich da noch interessiert…

Bei TESB, wo ja der Textcrawl als Original erhalten ist, kann man sehr gut die Kameraverzerrung (Kisseneffekt) sehen. Bei den nachgemachten Textcrawls zu ANH und ROTJ ist das nicht der Fall.
Irgendwie stört mich das - kann man das nicht doch irgendwie replizieren?

I can clarify the Russian dub situation a bit.

EP4 was released theatrically in the Soviet Union in the summer of 1990 - officially, with a dub created on the Gorki Studio facility.

EP5 and EP6 were never released in the USSR theatrically (as USSR has ended in 1991). There were no dubs made for them.

Later, there were dubs created by SDI Media Russia for the 2004 SE versions of the films for TV broadcast (2007). Later, there were dubs created specifically by SPIG for the BluRay release in 2010.

Will v2.1 be the final German version, or are you going to upgrade it to 2.5 once it’s out?

Here’s the piece of text from the biography “The Pythons Autobiography by The Pythons”:

Terry Jones:
“We just kept on re-editing and cutting it and trying to make things work. […] But before LA, I suddenly got cold feet about a sequence in Castle Anthrax, where Zoot turns to the camera and says ‘Are you enjoying this?’ Then you go to the Constitutional Peasants saying, ‘Get on with it!’. […] Then the scene goes on and I just got worried about this bit. We were going off to LA and they were actually going to cut the negative, but we were told that when you cut the negative you lose a frame, so once it’s cut you can’t change it. At the airport I was conferring with Terry, saying ‘What shall we do?’ In the end Terry and I agreed to cut that bit, so we rang up the editors and told them to cut it. Then of course we got to LA and I think that got one of the best laughs in the whole film. Since then we’ve put it back into various video and DVD versions and the film is much better with it.”

I have some infos about the “Get on with it” scene in the Monty Python Autobiography and why and at what stage it was cut out. I’ll quote the relevant passage when I get home.

Yup, look authentic to me (and also in line with the German theatrical subs for ROTJ).

One issue that stuck out for me in the version 2.5:

In the wide shot when Luke, Ben & the droids are arriving in Mos Eisley, the dewback near the cantina sticks out unnaturally green and bright (it is better in the following closeup shot).

Just rewatched Harmy's ROTJ version 1.0 and there were some issues that should be fixed in a later release.

- The composition off Luke and the Rancor is the 2004 version: the matte lines at the Rancor's legs are missing, and the colors are matching. The original version had prominent matte lines and mismatched colors.

- The hand-painted black blobs at the sides of Palpatine's face also are missing (they were removed in the 2004 version, IIRC).
