I hope so too. But to be honest I'm not thrilled by the possibility of them mixing up with the Avengers - I like this as a separate story.

Having an earth based set of films and a new seperate space based set of films would be the best option creatively and financially for Marvel IMO. But I'm not adverse to some minimal crossover on the level of what we've seen in GOTG1 (Collector, Thanos etc).

How did you first see the Star Wars films?

I honestly don't remember the 1st time I ever watched it. It always just seemed to exist in my life. I was only one when ROTJ came out in theaters so I definitely missed the initial run and I grew up watching it on TV in pan and scan.

For all the flack the 97 edition gets now, it was really eye opening seeing it for the 1st time in widescreen in a large theater. So much detail you never noticed before.

Yeah this ^.

It kinda puts paid to notions that people just want the OT restored out of a sense nostalgia. Because for many of us nostalgia is a cr*ppy quality pan & scanned 4:3 VHS that we taped off the tellie. We actually want the OUT restored in HD because it looks better that way. The Harmy's DE and the 2006 GOUT were the first times I'd ever seen the OUT in Widescreen.

Does this really warrant yet another thread about the exact same topic?

Yes having the discussion about the possible BR-release/HD-restoration spread accross two threads was annoying enough, without a third. Can a moderator please roll all 3 into one please?

That awesome joyful vibe from the movie is leaking into the real world ;-)

It's already 100 million in profit on the boxoffice, it won't be long before the sequel is paid for, without even factoring in all the Starlord lunch boxes and Rocket stuffed toys.

I might go see it for a third time today or tomorrow.

Who is planning on seeing the new Doctor Who episode at the cinema on Saturday?

I don't know if I can be bothered despite the massive screen, the bonus videos and live interviews etc all sounding like fun. Although I did regret skipping the 50th Anniversary screening, paying 8 or 9 pounds to see something you are getting free with your TV Licence, just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me on one level.

Has anybody mentioned?

Antz vs A Bugs Life

Interesting because although 'A Bugs Life' is created by recognised kids-animation masters Pixar, Dreamworks 'Antz' is a billion times better. When you beat Pixar at making a Pixar movie you've done very well indeed. 'Antz' isn't just fun and funny but it's political themes are somewhat daring for a kiddie movie and casting of Woody Allen in the lead role was genius.

Well The Black Guardian Trilogy was a bit boring IMO. A real struggle to get through at points. It was nice to see the Brig after his retirement... and before his un-retirement... and retirement again ;-) I'd remembered the 80s Davison era fondly from my younger days but after watching all this classic era stuff in recent months, I think it might be the show at it's weakest. However I got a kick out of seeing David "The original Legolas" Collings. There is something about those voices from the BBC Radio LOTR that I find captivating.

and the radiation-suits/armour from Terminus were badass. It reminded me of Dracula's armour from the Coppola movie mixed with the still suits from Lynch's Dune. I'm sure the Dune similarity (In design and function) is a coincidence as the movie started shooting a month after the serial was broadcast and they must have already designed/built the still suits by then.

So it was time for some more of Doctor Who at it's best. So I decided to cleanse my palette with a Jon Pertwee serial 'The Ambassadors of Death'.

It's mostly high-tension drama, exciting documentary style shooting and a fantastic plot twist that I never saw coming.

The downside is that 7 episodes it feels a little stretched. I'm sure all the crossing, double crossing, assassinations and kidnaps were just to hold the story off from progressiving for an episode or two. Still it was fun while it was going on and you're never sure who can be trusted.

Many compared the plots of...

The Raid (2011) vs Dredd (2012)

...and accused Dredd of copying The Raid. Forgetting that Dredd was written and shot before The Raid. Both are awesome.

The Godfather (1972) vs Once Upon A Time In America (1984)

Same story really. Leone had his movie in pre-production/scripting way before Coppola was hired. Again both are awesome.

The Full Monty (1997) vs Brassed Off (1996)

Both films about working class men finding a way out of the scrapheaps that Thatcher chucked their generation/industiries/communities onto. Full Monty was a collosal boxoffice hit, while Brassed Off did poorly but is infinitely superior IMO.

The late Pete Postlethwaite's best performance IMO...

If true, good. Please lets have a companion who isn't an "interchangeable sassy twenty-something British girl". A little bit of variety please Mr Moffat. Even if it was just changing the companion to an "interchangeable sassy twenty-something American girl" it would be a start ;-)

btw I'm not saying Jenna isn't great in the role or anything. Just that it's a role we've got a triffle bored with.

Ben Affleck cast as new Batman

The question is, will he top George Clooney as the worst batman? If dark knight rises was the batman forever of the reboots, will batman v superman be this generation's batman and robin?

I'm almost sure Affleck will be fantastic. He's spent a decade trying to get his credibility back and won, he wouldn't have signed for this role unless he thought he could prove everybody wrong.

I pretty much adore every single Marx Brothers film I've come across. They're geniuses.

It's a shame it's probably mostly film buffs that watch the Marx Brothers these days, as kids love those movies if they get the chance to see them.
