**RUMOR** Original theatrical cut of the OT to be released on blu ray!!

I always assumed the reason the really bad laserdisc ports were released was because everyone at LFL and Fox wanted them released and George finally said, "alright, as long as it doesn't cost one penny" so they did it the cheapest way humanly possible.

Because a restoration could not be performed, those 1993 Video Masters provided the best source to create DVD Transfers for the Original Theatrical Unaltered Versions.

With Disney apparently restoring the Theatrical Cuts in 4K and releasing them in 1080p on Blu-Ray next year, they'd probably look significantly better than the 2011 Blu-Rays of the Special Edition.

Bit a both. George didn't have to 4:3 letterbox the DVD or only include a stereo soundtrack. That was just out of badness IMO

Oh and on the main topic, I'll believe it when I've pressed play on the Blu-Ray.

I'm a big Gilliam fan and have all his films except one, which I'd also never seen before 'The Fisher King', I know right it's supposed to be his best one, how come I never watched it. I don't know either!? LOL

Obviously it was Robin Williams sad passing that gave me the reason to finally catch up with it. Wow what a masterpiece. It's so up my street. It walks that tightrope between heartbreaking tragedy and heartwarming magical romance in the same way as Chaplin's 'City Lights', Benigni's 'La Vita Bella' or Allen's 'The Purple Rose of Cairo'.

So I've listened to the GOTG soundtrack to death already and I wanted more of the same smile inducing music, so decided to make another "Awesome" mixtape of groovy, pop, rock etc tracks from the 1967-1979 period. Here's the playlist mixtape I put together on iTunes a TDK D90...

SIDE A
1. Sparks - The No. 1 Song In Heaven (Single Version)
2. Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
3. Luxury - Green Hearts
4. Blondie - Fan Mail
5. The Hues Corporation - Miracle Maker (Sweet Soul Shaker)
6. Big Star - The Ballad Of El Goodo

SIDE B
1. George Harrison - What Is Life
2. Elton John - Nice And Slow
3. The Knack - My Sharona
4. The Modern Lovers - Roadrunner
5. Tommy James & The Shondells - Crimson & Clover (Single Version)
6. Roxy Music - Virginia Plain

If you have the tracks you can have a listen. I couldn't help imagining what scenes they'd soundtrack in the sequel. Obviously Thin Lizzy's 'Jailbreak is dependant on them getting arrested again LOL. I'd like to hear other peoples' GOTG mixtapes.

If you got a Guardians movie with a bunny instead of a raccoon, this might be why. ;)

I don't believe that. How does a digital copy of a 2 year old movie get transferred to a hard drive, encoded, shipped, and decoded without anyone noticing that it's the wrong movie? The run times are different, the studios are different, and projectionists still test the copies to make sure they're not corrupted, so they would notice it's the wrong movie. Especially if they already made the mistake before.

The sad state of auto-pilot, usher-free and projectionist-free cinema these days. On the rare occasions when I've watched a film 3 or 4 times at the cinema in recent years, it's scary how completely different it can look depending on the venue and if they've hired anybody whose job it is to give a sh*t how a film is projected.

Hell yes mandible shot!

Those photos are great to see Jaitea, good finds! So it doesn't match the OT prop then, which I'm actually happy about. A "hunk-a-junk" like the Falcon would have all kinds of different bodges after a couple of decades.

Also nice comparison SilverWook. Those silver tubes match the style very well. There just isn't enough variety in on those back panels though IMO.

More Falcon interior photos.  Supposedly, the set wasn't 100% completed when the photos were taken.

Those ^ photos are clearly nowhere near finished. So maybe the earlier ones aren't finished either. I'm gonna hope that :-)

I look at an actor like Eric Bana (he was a bit older at the time then Hayden)

A bit older! He's just old enough to be Hayden's dad... and btw they still have the same age gap. He's still older, that doesn't change you know ;-)

I'm not saying Hayden is De Niro or anything but look at Natalie Portman. She's has quite a low-to-modest talent but thanks to working with some of the best Directors in the business, right from her first role, she's put in a few decent turns over the years.

Also I thought Hayden was good in the scenes he shared with Ewan on set. Sadly there are very few of them in the finished movies. Acting is reacting as they say, and Ewan must be better to react to, than a green wall.

At the time I thought Ryan Phillipe would have been a better choice. He had similar looks (If that was what George was after), had a good range from nice to full on evil and had 2 or 3 starring roles already (The experience).

I know I'm probably killing the buzz but is it just me or does this actually look terrible?

Ever imagined what is on that wall in the Falcon? Turns out just some random wires that we glued to a piece of black MDF.

Compare it to the detailing on the rest of the OT Falcon. Everything looks designed, substantial, densely packed and functional:

If I'd dressed that back part of the cockpit, I'd consider it a bad day at the office.

By the way, forgive me if this wall was actually modeled for the OT and it always looked this bad (Probably why the camera didn't dwell on it then).

Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker (blame his poor performance on bad directing)

Not to defend Lucas' directing, but how come Ewan McGregor was able to give a good performance for 3 movies?

Actors like Alec Guiness, Peter Cushing, and Liam Neeson, and Ewan McGregor are able to give decent performances in SW movies, mainly because they are good actors.

"good performance" is pushing it.

Ewan gave an "adequate performance", but it's still the worst performance he's ever given (Also Liam Neeson's worst ever performance, not terrible, just the least good). PT Lucas was a terrible director of actors and reader of performances.

Sadly Hayden didn't have the experience to cope without a good director to nudge him the right directions performance wise. The rest of the cast coped better to varing degrees on their own, depending on their experience. Tellingly the old pros managed to cope the best.

If Hayden had a good director, or Lucas hired somebody who had enough chops to just ignore him, then it might have been different. What we got was the blind leading the blind.

Dear OT Elitist Bigots...

A long time ago, I used to think that the most annoying fanbase was the Twilight fanbase.

2005-2008 is not a long time ago... well maybe to a Goldfish it is?

I nearly punched a hole in my wall when I found out that one fangirl had claimed that Stephanie Meyer was a better writer than my favorite writer of all time, Stephen King. But after seeing the bigotry, hatred and ignorance from original trilogy elitists like many seen on this site, I came to the conclusion that you are worse.

FYI

PT > OT = SM > SK

MOL IMHO

Refusing to just accept change, or even dislike change and admit that the creator or your beloved series should still be respected, you again childishly lash out at George Lucas merely because he's doing with his movies what he has the right to do. It's like a bunch of children, waking up on Christmas morning with a bountiful mass of presents underneath the Christmas tree.

Hmmmmm no. I think it's more like you getting a present from Santa that turns out to be your favourite teddy. Then 20 years later Santa takes it back saying "It was never your teddy, it's mine", hands you a pink plastic dog and says "It's the same". When you reply "It's not the same" he says "Well that's tough because I melted down your teddy to make the dog, so you are never seeing it again, quit crying".

SirHenryPercy said:

In fact, I actually planned on giving my own opinions on the prequels and defenses in a respectful manner, but why bother? You're not interested in debating...You're interested in conforming to a single opinion based on vapid fanboyism and nostalgia.

Do that, there are threads here for it. Everyone here is quite happy to debate why the PT is bad. Try giving some examples of why you think it is good? I'll happily tell you why you are wrong and not just tell you are wrong.

I think you feel happier imagining that people hating on the PT are just being d*cks, rather than entertain the thought that you are wrong and that the PT itself is hateful. Once again give one example of why it's not and again there is a thread for that. See you there :-)

I posted this theory over on FE.org but maybe people here would dig it too...

Did anybody else get the impression that the film was trying to imply that Jeff Bridges was Star-Lord's father?

It all synchs up with the hints in the script/story and the dates of the film, plus Bridges would be the perfect age now to play his father in the GOTG sequel! (And he's got Marvel form)

Starman Trailer 1984

Please let this be true and not just my insane idea . By the way, I do not want to know who Starlord's father may or not really be, if it's in the comics. I want it to be a surprise so please use "spoiler" tags if you know.
