Nervous networks are nothing new. The 80's series The Greatest American Hero briefly changed the last name of the main character, from Ralph Hinkley to Ralph Hanley, in the wake of the assassination attempt on President Reagan. The shooter was named John Hinckley.

Now that is just silly.  What message was the network trying to send any way?  Were they really saying that anyone born with the last name Hinkley was a crazy assassin? Because goodness knows people don't have free will and if they are born with a certain name they will kill.  That is why everyone who has ever been born with the Joseph becomes a dictator and kills millions.

They've just beheaded the second American and are gonna beheaded a British aid-worker next week, so it was wise for the BBC to drop any shots showing such at the moment.

I'm sure when it was filmed, the shot wasn't supposed to take the audience right out of the general escapism of the Robin Hood based episode, but right now it would. So from a story POV it's better it goes. Plus it would give the right-wing a handy stick to beat the BBC with again.

Slight overreaction here. Jesus. IT WAS A JOKE

That it was a joke doesn't mean it wasn't gross.   That kind of joke isn't for everyone.   Some people like bathroom humor and sex and fart and dirty  jokes, other prefer clean humor.

 You find nothing funny mate.

 untrue.

 True... Jinx no comebacks!

I gave 'Deep Breath' a second viewing last night. This time it was fairly easy to ignore the bad Clara focused bits and just enjoy Capaldi's performance. Most of it was the confused "Bitey" Doctor rambling and raving. Then Capaldi's version of The Doctor seemed to finally arrive during the final showdown with the half-faced-man.

If that's how his Doctor is going to be, with the calmer tone of his character, then this might be the best series of new-Who yet. Or maybe I'm wrong and he's still going to be the hands-wavey, jumping-up-down, twirling-around Doctor that we saw in the first manic two thirds of 'Deep Breath' (And all the other new-who series).

I guess we'll find out tonight (Fingers crossed).

I'm really loving London as a tourist. I've already done the British Library, Kensington Gardens, Regent's Park, Abbey Road, Buckingham Palace, and a few other high-profile sites. I have only one more full day here, so I'm gonna make tomorrow count.

Don't miss the Tate Modern, there is usually so much free stuff you probably don't even need pay to get into the special galleries. Plus you can walk across the bridge from 'Gaurdians of the Galaxy' to get there ;-)

Not in the USA it hasn't.

I blame you "rest-of-the-worlders" for this one.

My researches seem to suggest this is mostly down to T4 taking $300m in China alone...

...GOTG hasn't even opened in China yet! (or Germany, Italy or Japan) so if it did more or less the same in those countries, that would add another $400m to the GOTG total. Plus it's still playing.

Maybe I was right and Michael Bay is dead after all!

This opening scene is a fleshed out version of Anakin's near-fatal podrace crash which was only referenced in the script/film. It made for a more immediately engaging start to the book (which you should totally read on Amazon).

I wasn't aware of how different that book was. I just had a skim read on Amazon as you suggested. What the f**k, that opening was awesome! What in the nine hells was wrong with George Lucas? He had a good movie and ruined it. I'm getting that book for my Kindle just to annoy myself ;-)

I'll be studying at St. Clare's in Oxford starting on the 31st. It probably won't cut back on my lurking time, but it's worth mentioning. I've got four days in London coming up, so if anyone's local, feel free to PM me and we'll go out for a pint. Same applies for my whole semester in Oxford.

Go order a 'Double Barrel' cocktail from the LAB-Bar in Old Compton St, then you can say that you've experienced the best London has to offer ;-)

BEN - Hello there! Come here Obi-Wan's little friend. Don't be afraid.

BEN - Don't worry, Luke will be all right.

LUKE - What happened?

BEN - Rest easy, Luke, Luke's had a busy day. Luke's fortunate Luke's still in one piece.

LUKE - Ben? Ben Kenobi! Boy, am I glad to see you!

BEN - The Jundland wastes are not to be traveled lightly. Tell Obi-Wan young Luke, what brings Luke out this far?

LUKE - Oh, this little droid! I think he's searching for his former master... etc ...Do you know who he's talking about?

BEN - Obi-Wan Kenobi... Obi-Wan? Now that's a name Obi-Wan hasn't heard in a long time... a long time.

LUKE - I think my uncle knew him. He said he was dead.

BEN - Oh, Obi-Wan's not dead, not... not yet.

LUKE - You know him!?

BEN -  Well of course Obi-Wan knows Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan's Obi-Wan! Obi-Wan hasn't gone by the name of Obi-Wan since oh, before Luke was born.

LUKE -  Then the droid does belong to you.

BEN - Obi-Wan doesn't seem to remember ever owning R2-D2. Very interesting...

BEN - Obi-Wan thinks Obi-Wan and Luke better get indoors. The Sandpeople are easily startled but The Sandpeople will soon be back and in greater numbers.

...in the hope that Mr Frink will make this insane scene soon, for a specail teaser, or for christmas, or something. I don't really care what reason, I just need to hear this scene. I can't wait for the LOL

Repost in the ROTR thread and I'll make it a DVD extra.

Awesome. If this wasn't a fanedit, I'd be posting the "Shut up and take my money" meme right now :-)

I don't think Lucasfilm will ever release any versions but the original and the current version.

I have a hard time believing that the '11 versions are the final versions. NOBODY likes Vader saying no, Han shooting second, Hayden as Anakin's ghost, etc. If there's any versions that there's no market for, it's the '11 versions.

You'd be surprised at the amount of people who actually like Hayden's ghost.

Yes I was surprised. Apparently one lives in Wisconsin and the other in Stuttgart.

Yes, hopefully a sign of the times when a movie with heart based on virtually unknown characters (GOTG) destroys a heartless cash-in based on one of the most famous franchises (TMNT). Michael Bay is dead, long live James Gunn!* LOL

who was the lady at appeared at the end of the story with the android, that asked if her boyfriend(which is implied is the Doctor) hurt the android?  Is she someone I am supposed to recognize?

She was the meta-physical representation of the Tardis.

If that is the case, than imho, it makes absolutely no sense.  Are you saying the android is sort of inside the Tardis now????

Actually after reading around a bit on Google, no other Who fan seems to think she was the Tardis, so I'm probably waaaay off on that one. It just seemed like it to me.

How did the Tardis get swallowed by a dinosaur?

It was supposed to be unexplained. Just bit of silliness to start the episode. He didn't know how to fly the Tardis so he crashed it into a T-Rex then the Thames. You've overthought that one ;-)

As far as I know, the Doctor has never been able to choose his next face

The regeneration rules change all the time, always have. Continuity is gonna be a bit wonky with a 50 year Sci-Fi show. Still they make a damn good effort mostly.

Warbler said:

The Doctor keeps saying that the whoe thing of the androids taking human body parts and whatnot keep reminding him of something.   Is that something that happened in a previous episode that I have missed?

I'm not sure on this one, let's ask an expert. Bingowings, is this a callback? Proto-Cybermen perhaps?

Warbler said:

Why was Clara so unaccepting of the new Doctor?

In the story Clara and her feelings were a proxy for the show's legion of very new fair-weather fans who have never seen an old Doctor. It was like Clara was reading out a Doctor Who message board written by 14 year olds instead of a script. I found that element of the episode really annoying. I don't need reassuring about the change to Capaldi, I was absolutely delighted!

She was the meta-physical representation of the Tardis (99% sure it was anyway?). I liked how the set seemed to reference the Tardis cloister set from Logopolis...

btw My favourite part was when The Doctor whispered "Sometimes I wish you were Amy" underneath his breath, so Clara couldn't quite hear. Big LOL moment.
