That is so GREAT!

Did you want me to scan the Laserdisc's Ggatefold cover art and text for you? I can send it along on a CD-R with your Banned Bond set if you need me to.

Yes. I did, but it's from an official VHS tape.

I think there was a Laserdisc of this, but I have not the time nor funds to seek it out.

No Scourging of the Shire = Forget it!

By the way, I saw Return of the King for the first/last time this past weekend, and what the heck was with the end and death of Golem?

Did Jackson ever go the movies? Did he not know that SAME ending was used in both Teminator II and Alien 3? Golem could still have met his death faling into the pit (like in the book), but why do they always have to get so stupid and copy bad computer visuals that have been done to death? Golem surviving for like 20 seconds after he makes contact with the Lava is just going way over the top.

Connery is not on the commentary track as far as I can remember.

I think it's only Terance Young (Dr. No and From Russia with Love), Peter Hunt, Ken Adam, Richard Maibaum, Guy Hamilton (Goldfinger)

And I hope that video game with Connery is better then others to come out with the Bond name on them. Just as with the films, they have had some real stinkers. It would be sad if his last role in the world of James Bond was a video game made for people who had not even been born when his last film as James Bond came out (Never Say never Again 1983). Connery is not getting any younger and the last time I saw him (on T.V. a few months ago) he did not look too good. It may just be that time for him to cash in and make some extra bucks to leave his family for when he is gone. Not like he is short of bucks... And so far, it looks like he is not going to be a part of Indy 4.

You can send me a PM.

They have everything that was on the Laserdisc.

The Movie (Letterbox)
The Original Mono Soundtrack
The Audio Commentary
The Music and Effects Only Audio Track (On Dr. No and Goldfinger)
Production info and stills

From Russia with Love had no Music and Effects Only Audio Track.

I don't belive any of these titles are in print at this time in any format in the U.S.

That's not fair.

STTMP had a plot. Just not a very exciting or well told one.

"When a destructive space entity is spotted approaching Earth, Admiral Kirk resumes command of the Starship Enterprise in order to intercept, examine, and hopefully stop it."

Funny thing is that someone at Paramont must have liked that plot line. It was mostly used again in Star Trek IV with an extra time travel twist, and some big fish.

To reconstruct the original 1979 version (or the Special longer Version) of STTMP from just what is on the DVD can't be done. If you try to just re-insert the cut footage into the main feature, you run into problems such as the soundtrack music not flowing together. The new DVD edit has lots of new background sounds, and they would have to be replaced with the unmodified soundtrack from the original versions.

Hiphats version from Widescreen Laserdisc would be a true preservation of the 1979 version.

Nice title! And cool projects. Is the Director's Cut on DVD significantly different from the long VHS version?

I would say yes. The Directors cut for the most part trims down a number of scenes from the Original as well as the Longer version to make the film move a bit faster. They made some new spfx for some segments, and that would be the major reason for getting this title IMHO. For me, the new spfx shots add to the enjoyment of the film.

Still, there are a few things about the Director's Cut DVD that bug me. For one, they cut out a small part of the Klingon Battle at the start of the film. WHY? That small trim disrupts the flow of the music cue playing under the battle. Being someone who loves the STTMP score, this jump in music is jolting and unwelcome. It seems to me that they got a bit heavy handed with the razorblade.

Hope this helps.

It should not be a problem to enter subtitles at all. If you get a text document of the subtitles from the Criterion edition, you can just dump that into a program such as Adobe Encore DVD to make new text subtitles over the Japanese video . You would prob still need to have someone watch the Criterion edition and mark down the punch in and punch out times for each subtitle so they match up under the correct dialog. This sounds like a major costly project for sure.

So the Japanese discs look better then that new German set? Does the Japanese version have the restored beating sceen?

If so, do we need:

Video From: Japanese Discs
Mono English: U.S. basic DVD version
Mono Italian: German Set
Subtitles: Criterion edition

Back in 1991, I went to a marathon showing of the first 5 Trek films at some big New York city movie theater. Also included was a preview of the new soon to be released Star Trek VI.

They called the event "Sit Long and Prosper", and I called it "Too much dam Star Trek in one day".

One positive thing about that marathon was that they showed a kind of shortend edit of the Special Longer Edition version of STTMP.
(Does that make sense?)

That was a treat seeing that version on the big screen, as I had seen the original cut that way in 1979.

Hi,

I've been working on a "Widescreen" version of STTMP: The Special Longer Edition for DVD. This has been a kind of off and on again minor side project of mine. The Special Longer Version was never put out in widescreen format for the home video market.

For this project, I'm using the Pan and Scan VHS of the SLE as a video/audio guide track. I only keep the audio from the VHS for sections of audio that need to join original to extended segments. Then I am replacing the Pan and Scan video with the "Widescreen" version of those shots from the DVD and Laserdisc. For this DVD edit, I am not using any of the updated spfx made for the Directors cut DVD.

Another edit I am working on is called "Star Trek: The Motion Sickness". It is a joining of ALL the footage from the Director's Edition DVD (including the updated spfx made for the Directors cut DVD), splicing in the outtakes and fragments from the 1979 and extended T.V. edit that had not been included in the Director's cut.

From one of the posted comments after the review on that site, it seems that the German set is the one that would be the best masters.

Quote:
"Paramount are releasing A Fistful of Dollars and For a Fe Dollars more in Germany in two disc SE on October 6th. The restored original mono audio is included and the picture quality is said to be better also.
Also For a Few Dollars More has the restored beating scene.

You can get them individually or in alimited edition wooden box with watch!

SammyTheBull:
You've got a PM.

I belive the problem was that the people on the commentaries speak their minds and don't hold back negitive comments. Like the screenwriter of From Russia With Love calling Ian Fleming a "Snob", or Director Terance Young recalling Chris Blackwell's Pot Smoking habbits. The MGM commentaries are just to NICE, and hold back any real objective comments. I belive that everyone should hear the originals, as that is the true history of the film as told by the people who made them. As a student of film history, I belive this information is priceless, and must be preserved for all time.

GOOD CALL!

The Original 1954 B&W Casino Royale is an extra on the MGM DVD release of 1967's Casino Royale Spoof. The problem with this version is that it's missing footage at the end, and is only 50 min long. A VHS tape of the 1954 T.V. Movie version was released by Spy Guise / Cara Video back in 1997. This VHS tape version had an approximate running time of 70 min, with the missing footage restored for the first time on home video. Now I belive Spy Guise could not get the rights to put this longer version out on DVD, and the VHS is the only way to see the entire program.

**EDIT** product currently available in general release.

BANNED BOND: The Criterion Collection on DVD (by Fanfiltration)

Shortly after releasing the first 3 James Bond films on Laserdisc in a 2-disc CAV format in 1991, Criterion was asked by EON Productions (Producers of the James Bond Films) to recall all unsold Laserdisc product. It was felt that the audio commentary tracks on the 3 titles where unacceptable to Albert R. Broccoli, one of the original producers of the 3 films.
The 3 films had later been re-packaged by Criterion into a single disc format, and re-issued without any of the supplemental features. When MGM released their DVD’s of the first 3 films in the mid 1990’s, they contained different audio commentaries. Now, the original 2-disc Criterion versions go for big bucks on Ebay. I am proud to preserve these great films and their original Special Features on DVD for Bond Fans Everywhere.

Halloween VI - The Curse of Michael Myers - The Producers Cut (Released)
Time
Hi,

I would love to see someone out there do a Halloween Super Edit (Excluding the events of #3).
A kind of Readers Digest version of all the films in one big edit production.
Just take the core story elements and important characters from each installment and cut everything else out. Just keep the good murders. Shorten scenes and time compress to make it move. I have only seen the first 3 movies.
Is the same score used in every film? I love the music in the first 2 films.

Anyone up to this?
