Idea & Info: Combining all the Criterion Efforts?

List of Criterion Collection laserdisc titles: Criterion Laserdiscs

List of Criterion Collection DVD titles: Criterion DVD List

This sounds like an excellent idea! I would offer to transfer the LD's myself, but I don't have a Pioneer "Elite" model Laserdisc Player yet.
At this time I use the Pioneer CLD-D504 (S-Video output) with a Sony Handycam (Firewire output) to make my sets. The problem with my set up is that the "reds" come out looking like red blocks. With a project such as combining all the Criterion Efforts, you would need to seek out the BEST transfers you can. If we can find a very reliable person with an "Elite" model Laserdisc Player, I would be willing to lend my Criterion Bond films out for re-transfer. Another Criterion title I have is A HARD DAY's NIGHT but it's still sealed in the shrinkwrap.

That may not be 100% true (but it most likely is). There is / was strong rumor of yet another edit of the film, but it may be lost forever. The version I speak of is the one shown on airlines back in 79/80. In my youth, I would get myself involved with large numbers of fellow fans at conventions and spend days just talking Trek. It was there that I was told quite a few times by a number of hard core fans about the international airline version of STTMP, and how it contained a much different edit of the film, and "HAD DIFFERENT SPECIAL EFFECTS" in some places. It was suspected at that time that those effects had been done by the company hired to work on the film before John Dykstra and Douglas Trumbull became involved. Now in the "making of" on the new DVD, It is said that none of those early effects could be used and had just been in the testing phase when aborted. Now is that true or not? It would not be the first misinformation given on one of those types of programs. Could the alternate effects have been test footage, or footage done by Dykstra and Trumbull that has just been left out of other versions? I believe it is very possible for the airlines (or more likely one airline) to have been given a work print of the movie by mistake by someone at Paramount or who ever handles that stuff for them.

Anyone other then myself hear about this version?

FanFiltration's Release & Feedback Thread
Time
Thanks for your comments boon23. I have alot of fun making the DVDs. The extras are the best part of any DVD, and are a MUST! Look what is said about DVD titles that have little or no extras on Amazon, they get bad reviews. One of the things I wanted to add to the DUNE set was a text commentary, but there is alot of work entering the text to show up at the right time on the program. To be honest, I enjoy the editing part, the making menus part, and evan the building of the DVD in Adobe DVD Encore, but I HATE typing!

Right now I am still working on getting the Banned Bond set out.

My next projects are:

Star Wars Re-Making Magic (The Making Magic CD-ROM now on DVD with full remote navigation!!!)
It is 98% done and is being staled for some unknown reason on my part. All I need to do is add the 3 SE trailers and "making of" from SE laser set as an extra, but I am procrastinating for some reason. I know this disc will be a hit with the SW fans.

Star Wars *mystery project*
This is 45% done, and I still don't want to let the cat out of the bag on this one. This DVD project is something that has not been done by anyone in the fan community yet. **It's focus is on Episode 4**

The Chronological GODFATHER (Fanfiltration Edit)
99% Done! I am just trying to take my real name off the credits (This was a personal project), and make Fanfiltration versions out of it. the set at this time is 5 DVD's, and I would like to shrink it down a bit without too much loss.

A Hard Day's Night (Preservation Edition)
This is a restoration project. This DVD will present the film in it's correct aspect ratio, including the original MONO Soundtrack and the MPI Stereo remix. The DVD will have audio extras from the Beatles, a vintage making of video, the out-take "You Can't Do That", and more.

THUNDERBALL (THE ALTERNATE EDIT)
This edit of Thunderball will include all known variations not presented in the MGM DVD version.

Space 1999: The Movie
This is a re-edit of footage from original "Space 1999" shows to recreate the type of action and adventure storys we seem to remember from childhood, but somehow does not realy exist when re-viewing the episodes on DVD today. This is a labor of love, and is being done as a kind of homage to the Telemovie format of the 70's and 80's.

PINK FLOYD Live at POMPEII (Preservation Edition)
This is a re-creation of the films second edition/cut that was not included on the "Director's Cut" DVD. This is the edit most fans remember, and it is a reconstruction of the film as seen on the 1980's VHS tape.

Halloween Mega-Edit:
Still in the concept phase.

FanFiltration's Release & Feedback Thread
Time

Now that DUNE and the Banned Bond sets have gone public, I thought it was time to start a FanFiltration Release & Feedback Thread .

Firstly I would like to thank my fellow film fans. Extra thanks must go out to Rikter for all the great help, the forces that run www.originaltrilogy.com, and to Xavier and the guys at MYSPLEEN. And to Ash595, thanks for the great DVD cover art for the Bond sets!

It is here that I ask for any and all feedback on my work to be posted. Please, I only ask that you be constructive with your remarks so that I may incorporate any ideas into my future fan works. Making fan edits is my way to interact with my fellow fans. They are only meant to be enjoyed as an education in film storytelling and not for profit of any kind other then personal enjoyment. Please support the official versions of films and buy lots of stuff at places like the local mall and Amazon. **Do not support those who sell other peoples fan work on Ebay!**

Please DON'T post, ask, or make any requests for copies of these DVD sets on this thread! This work is now out in the public domain, and must be obtained via non-profit fan interaction only. The FanFiltration sets are NOT FOR SALE!

Thanks!

At this time, the following fan edits & Preservation titles have been done by FanFiltration@hotmail.com

DUNE (FanFiltration Edit)
*2 DVD SET*
"This special reedit of “DUNE” was prepared by us at Fanfiltration to satisfy
fans whom have never been truly happy with “DUNE” in neither its truncated 1984
theatrical version, nor the version of the David Lynch film prepared
specifically for television markets with extended (yet poorly edited) footage.
In many places, scenes have been reedited to try and faithfully reconstruct
David Lynch’s original vision of the film using the December 9, 1983 shooting
script as a guide.

The film is presented in a “Pan & Scan” format; as no widescreen footage of the
extended cut scenes is available at the current time of this reedit production.

For this fan–created reedit of “DUNE”, every attempt has been made to enhance
grainy cutting–room–floor scenes that had been haphazardly inserted into the
“Allen Smithee” television version. Fanfiltration’s computer–generated effects
have been added to correct the missing “blue within blue eyes” that had been
left unfinished in the Smithee version. We also applied color correction to make
the clips match. These clips have been incorporated to allude to the dimension
of the characters and plotlines in Frank Herbert’s “DUNE”.

BANNED BOND: The Criterion Collection on DVD (Laserdisc Preservation)
*3 DVD SET*
Shortly after releasing the first 3 James Bond films on Laserdisc in a 2-disc CAV format in 1991, Criterion was asked by EON Productions (Producers of the James Bond Films) to recall all unsold Laserdisc product. It was felt that the audio commentary tracks on the 3 titles where unacceptable to Albert R. Broccoli, one of the original producers of the 3 films.
The 3 films had later been re-packaged by Criterion into a single disc format, and re-issued without any of the supplemental features. When MGM released their DVD’s of the first 3 films in the mid 1990’s, they contained different audio commentaries. Now, the original 2-disc Criterion versions go for big bucks on Ebay. I am proud to preserve these great films and their original Special Features on DVD for Bond Fans Everywhere.

Idea & Info: a Dune Fan Edit thread...
Time
DUNE Fanfiltration Edit is on MYSPLEEN now.

I am sorry to say that the text commentary was cancelled on the DUNE Fanfiltration Edit at the last moment. The edit was taking much too long to finish, and I wanted to get it out to the fans as soon as I could. In it's place, a video edit of alt. scenes and the original Soundtrack album has been included with the extras on disc two. As soon as MCA video puts out more DUNE out-take footage, I will be building a version 2.0 DVD set. In that future set I can include the text commentary and make other improvments fans want.

Thank you Blaksvn for getting this out the true fans, YOU ROCK!

BANNED BOND: The Criterion Collection on DVD (Released)
Time
Hi,

Many of you have requested this set. At this time, I am still working on fulfilling requests made by people whom have sent me blanks in October & November.
Please bear with me, as this is the first time I have ever done such a huge task. I had far more requests for the sets then anticipated and the requests are still coming in. If you sent me something, please be assured that the sets and or replacement Dr. No’s will be sent.

For the replacements, I am paying postage out of my own pocket. This set is not for sale!

Info Wanted: Just wondering... re acquiring a digital copy of something I already own?
Time
I would say yes. If that DVD you download is acting as a back up of the same version you have on VHS, and that version of Star Wars is out of print I see no problems. I believe you have paid for the licence to view that version in your own home. You should have a right to protect your investment.

Enjoy

UPDATE!!!

That "Rock and Roll" program with Grant Goodeve (the oldest son "David" from "Eight Is Enough") is called
http://www.newswithviews.com/books/images/Rock-n-Roll120.jpg http://www.crosstv.com/images/WP0015.gif

"THEY SOLD THEIR SOULS FOR ROCK-N-ROLL"

"This internationally televised expose is the most powerful rockumentary ever produced, bar none!"

Fasten your seat belts as you go on an eye popping ride upon the roller coaster of Rock, and find out how Rock's most popular artists have Sold Their Souls for Rock and Roll. In this mind blowing expose Pastor Joe Schimmel reveals just how Satan has been effectively using popular music to undermine God's plan for family and ultimately heralding the coming of the Antichrist and his kingdom on earth.
http://www.crosstv.com/images/WPFF0015.gif
And this can be found for sale on DVD!

We know what some of you are already thinking. "Selling their souls? Come ON now." But this gripping documentary shows some of rock and roll's most celebrated artists - including Lennon, Morrison and Jagger - speaking about their ties to the occult, IN THEIR OWN WORDS. The content of this 4-hour series, chronicling the modern music industry's ties to the occult over the past 75 years, has made it one of our most widely requested programs. Written in part (and narrated) by pastor, researcher, and former hard rock musician Joe Shimmel, it is an alarming spiritual awakening for ANYONE who wants to know how violence, sexual immorality and blasphemy have been able to completely infiltrate the powerful, billion-dollar music business... AND the hearts and minds of those who listen to it!
