Star Wars Despecialized Editions - Custom Bluray Set (Released)

Is there a chance to get a separate download for just all the commentaries (from both the 25GB and 50GB movie discs)? I’m only downloading the special feature and documentaries since I’m using the German DeEds for the movies themselves and like to mux all those commentaries in there myself.

Seconding this, but I am also looking for each movie’s DTS track and 1993 LaserDisc mix.

I can’t express how happy I am right now. By some chance, I came across an article today discussing the reworks that were made to the original trilogy to get them up to Blu-ray quality. It’s what brought me here. I grew up watching these movies in theaters. I was too young to remember seeing star wars at the drive-ins with my parents but that wasn’t the case for the rest in theaters.

During those years, it was these movies that brought my best friend and I together. I have so many fond memories of my best friend and I going to see TESB as kids. I recall us being in such awe of the effects and vivid scenes as we watched the movie so intently, and I recall leaving the theater playing out the lightsaber fight scenes as we walked out and being so disappointed that we had to wait for the next movie to come out.

When ROTJ came out the excitement was on high again and it was so apparent that an article was written about it and was featured on a local paper. We had been waiting in a very long line to watch the movie with toys in hand, and us playing out lightsaber scenes again. A reporter had been there to write about the movie release and about the fans in the long line; it’s where he happen to see us playing. He used our story for the article in which he touches on the fact that my friend and I came from very different cultural backgrounds and yet this movie brought us closer together and how oblivious we were to our differences because of it; my friend Rason was from African American descent. About a year or two after ROTJ was released I had to move far away and in the process I lost contact with my friend. I have reminisced so much of those times since then.

I’m an old guy now and in very poor health now. I’ve been hoping and praying for so long that lucas would eventually put out the original trilogy in a SHD format, and not ones with the new CGI scenes that I have now which don’t compare. For me to get and watch these originals before I meet my demise is all I’ve ever really wanted. When I got here and saw that these films were remastered, and when I got to see some of the screen shots, I won’t lie, it brought tears to my eyes. Longer story short, I’m here now and I just signed up for an account.

I’m begging, if not pleading that one of you please provide me with links to the movies mentioned with all the features included. I’d also be willing to pay good money if someone can provide them already on working high end Blu-ray disks with all the box art work. This will also give me the opportunity to pass them on to my son. Hopefully he and I can build some memories from these movies too. I apologize for this lengthy post but I hope you will understand and see the urgency in this for me to get these movies as soon as I can. A very very big Thank You goes out to those involved in remaking these films! I really can’t express my gratitude to all of you just as I really can’t express my anger toward lucas for not releasing the original films in high quality. It’s really unfortunate that fans had to take it upon themselves to do this, but I really thank you for it!

I am really touched by this.

Try getting in touch with HanDuet in Facebook.

He often does giveaways for MySpleen invites.

I could’ve given you an invite as a Christmas gift but sorry, I can’t since I am only a regular user there and I need to wait a while to become a Power User, which then I can give you an invite.

Merry Christmas, and for your quest to find the Despecialized Editions, good luck and may the Force be with you.

I have some other suggestions:

  1. I think the English mono tracks for Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back should be LPCM 1.0 instead of DTS-HD Master Audio since there is little difference in quality and/or size and LPCM has increased compatibility compared to DTS-HD Master Audio.

  2. I also think that the English 35mm Stereo mixes should be Dolby TrueHD instead of DTS-HD Master Audio so that there can be surround matrixing similar to the LaserDisc audio.
Dolby TrueHD has this Dolby Pro Logic capability but for DTS-HD Master Audio, I’m not sure.
There was apparently something called DTS Stereo which was used on some LaserDiscs and theatrical releases but I’m not sure if it can be used in the modernized DTS and DTS-HD codecs.
I also think that the alternative English LaserDisc mixes should also be in Dolby TrueHD, if it is still allowed in the 48MBps bitrate limit of Blu-ray.

  3. What do you think of the isolated score being in LPCM 2.0? Already posted about it but barely anyone replied to it.

I second this

Wait. I also forgot:

  1. I think the 5.1 mixes should be in 6.1 or 7.1 instead (most likely 6.1)
I actually talked to hairy_hen about this, he said he probably couldn’t perfectly test this as he only has a 5.1 system and is not entirely sure on how good it would sound.

I’m not sure of the value of this. If the whole point of the 5.1 mix is to approximate the theatrical 6-channel mix, wouldn’t adding extra channels move it further from that goal? It’s already a little bit off because 5.1 doesn’t quite equal 4.2–but there’s no home video 4.2 standard, so 5.1 is about as close as you can get. I suppose you could do 6.1 and have the two rear channels duplicate the center rear (effectively 4.1), but that seems a lot of effort (and duplicated audio data) for a dubious return, and you could accomplish more-or-less the same with a phantom center in 5.1 if that was your goal. It’d upmix to sound exactly like that on 6.1 systems anyway.

Now if the point was to make an entirely new and spiffy 6.1 or 7.1 mix, without any attempt to be authentic to the original, maybe that’d be fine.

Okay. But how about a 6.1 Matrix style (AKA: 5.1-ES)? Will it still be different from a regular 5.1 mix if you only have a 5.1 system?

I am not sure which official Blu-rays have a DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1 Matrix track but I do know that the Theatrical Editions of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Extended was 6.1 Discrete) and the Japanese, Chinese-language and French Blu-ray releases of Howl’s Moving Castle (US and UK release was plain 5.1, even if you select the Japanese audio and 6.1 Matrix only available in Japanese audio).

Here is the LOTR: ROTK Theatrical Blu-ray: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Lord-of-the-Rings-The-Return-of-the-King-Blu-ray/1973/
Compared with the Extended Blu-ray: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Lord-of-the-Rings-The-Return-of-the-King-Blu-ray/19931/

Also, the Japanese release of Howl’s Moving Castle (misprinted as 6.1 Discrete but actually 6.1 Matrix according to BDInfo, also, English audio is always 5.1 regardless of version, it’s also the only Studio Ghibli film with 6.1 Matrix since everything else they did which was theatrically presented in DTS-ES 6.1 or Dolby Digital EX 6.1 is in 6.1 Discrete, but usually only in Japan): http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Howls-Moving-Castle-Blu-ray/28162/
Compared with the US version (US and UK Blu-ray is the only way to watch the English dubbed version with lossless DTS-HD Master Audio since Japan only has them in lossy DTS 5.1, unfortunately the Japanese audio is only plain 5.1 in the US and UK versions unlike the 6.1 Matrix audio in Japan): http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Howls-Moving-Castle-Blu-ray/48187/

Also, I love the fact that you can matrix the DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks of the Dolby Stereo version to 4.0 with Dolby Pro Logic.

It doesn’t work for every DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Blu-ray I tested but it worked on the Studio Ghibli Blu-rays which were theatrically presented in Dolby Stereo and it also worked with some Criterion Blu-rays like Brazil.

Here’s a silly question. How do get to the PM’s?

You just signed up and all you want is an invite to get stuff?

😦

This particular question was where in the profiles do PMs show up.

But yeah. I downloaded versions last year and saw this thread and asked for a myspleen invite like many others have.

The problem I have is that none of you will be contributing members here because all you want is a spleen invite. Sadly, we have people still giving them out willy nilly, and that sucks for us.

😦

I’m not sure I see the downside. You get new members to the forum and maybe give them a chance to contribute. Some will. Some won’t.

At the end of the day people just want to download and experience the project.

If I need 50 or 100 or 500 posts before an invite we’ll so be it.

Meanwhile I’ll go back to watching ANH v2.5

The problem is that people ask for myspleen invites from existing myspleen users, download despecialized, maybe seed it or only leech it, and then never leech/seed anything else on the site. The site owners hate these kinds of people because they dilute the value of not only having a private tracker, but having one of the most unique and vibrant trackers out there, myspleen. Jetrell is right to be upset, and I echo his sentiment. If you are asking for a myspleen invite, be prepared to fully contribute. If you just want despecialized, there are other official and unofficial means of getting it.

This goes for everybody else asking for myspleen invites in this thread, too. If you truly wish to join myspleen, then please do not just hit and run the site for despecialized. Stick around, seed, and look for other cool things to grab and seed. Maybe even upload something, too. There are many ways to contribute to myspleen, but hitting and running is a cardinal sin on this and all other private trackers.

I never asked for a MySpleen invite but Blackout gave me one when I said that I don’t have a MySpleen account.

And yeah, I don’t hit-and-run despite my poor ratio but my ratio is only poor because the torrents I usually download are in very low demand and the Despecialized Editions aren’t the only things I got from MySpleen despite it being the main draw to this website.

For example, I found some weird official Star Wars Christmas album called Christmas in the Stars which is now very rare as well as some neat The Making of the Star Wars Trilogy documentaries.

And Star Wars wasn’t the only thing I found, I found the complete series of Clarissa Explains It All, which is now obscenely rare except for Hulu Plus who has most episodes, but even that isn’t the complete series.

Now I can carry the legacy of my teenage years to my son, from Clarissa Explains It All to the unaltered Star Wars Trilogy.

I also found some other neat and interesting stuff other than those aforementioned things.

I will backup as many of my downloaded torrents on blank DVDs as time goes on.

I will also keep seeding for as long as possible.

And as for uploading stuff, I am now scouring around the net for a FLAC version of Clarissa and the Straightjackets: This is What “Na Na” Means to upload on MySpleen and maybe make my own DVD-9 version of the Despecialized Editions with bonus features and alternate sound mixes if I get the basics of DVD authoring.

You won’t last there if your ratio continues to suck. Other people KNOW what’s there, and they come here for the invites, they don’t bother joining the spleen forum for their invite requests. History has shown that those droves of people coming here for invites never stay members here. They drop off because they get what they came for. We have members here that don’t give a damn about that issue so the leechers keep coming here.

😦

This is why I am very desperate to raise my ratio but unfortunately, my laptop is running out of disk space and I need to raise it, unfortunately, some torrents I downloaded (like Clarissa Explains It All) are of low demand and have very few, if any, leechers.

And unfortunately, I have very few material which may interest the Spleeners.

I am looking for that aforementioned Clarissa album (which some may want to download) but I am not really sure if Spleeners may be interested in some of my Star Wars VCDs, I have an official Philippine VCD of The Phantom Menace (which is in English), it’s the theatrical version but is pan-and-scan so some may not want to download it if they have the Japanese LaserDisc, I also have a bootleg of the timecoded leak of Revenge of the Sith in which the video is heavily compressed and has a wrong aspect ratio.

Anyways, what is the ratio threshold there?

Yes.

This + schorman’s PCM audio = maybe the best version of From Star Wars to Jedi yet.

I just need a DVD-5 VOB format version but also with PCM audio since I am making my own Despecialized DVDs loosely based on the UK VHS Executor set.

P.S: Can you also make some DVD VOBs for The Making of Star Wars… as told by C-3P0 and R2-D2, SP FX - The Empire Strikes Back and Classic Creatures since I can’t convert the versions from the Blu-ray since my PC is very weak and can’t convert and/or HD video let alone SD and my PC would crash if I do.

I’m not trying to be rude here but this is the second thread in the project section where you “want” all this stuff, specially done to your liking, but I don’t see you offering much in the way of support for the folks your asking to do it.

You haven’t been a member here terribly long. You might want to consider a new strategy, otherwise your requests are going to become background noise to others who might consider helping you some.

Just something you might want to consider.

Your idea seems good enough.

But I am trying to compile them all in preparation for my own Despecialized DVDs.

Thankfully for me, my DVDs will only have the Definitive Collection’s bonus features except for the art gallery but I will also put The Making of Star Wars, SP FX - The Empire Strikes Back, Classic Creatures and From Star Wars to Jedi.

He’s mainly referring to your tone. You come off as something of a spoiled child when you’re talking about how you “want this” or “need that”, whether you realize this or not. You are obviously passionate about the things that you talk about, and there’s not a thing wrong with that. It just gives some of us the wrong idea when you’re asking others to essentially “gimme gimme”. But I want to give you the benefit of the doubt since you seem like a nice guy on the whole. And I don’t mean to sound rude by pointing this out, by the way. This is just me trying to politely help you get the things you want done in a way that makes you look better in the end.

Okay. Thanks for the advice.

Anyways, I have plans for a Despecialized DVD-9 and I am now compiling the materials and I am currently learning the basics.

Not sure if I would actually do it, though and would some people want it despite the fact that there are already DVD-5 and AVCHD versions available?

My plans for my set are currently a DVD-9 and DVD-5 per movie (DVD-9 has the movie only and DVD-5 has the bonus features) and a DVD-5 for From Star Wars to Jedi.

It’s only a regular DVD for people with only regular DVD players or Blu-ray players without AVCHD support and MKV support but said people can burn DVD-9 discs.

I am not making my own thread for that yet since I am not sure if I will actually do it but would you want it or not?

  • darth_ender - for guidelines and ideas for reinsert deleted scene back in the movies
  • DoomBot - provided NTSC deleted scenes and DVD menus
  • adiwan - made the EP 7 IMAX scene and kindly provided it
  • ADigitalMan - EP 1 2 3 extended editions; used as guidelines and inspiration
  • russian anonymous - EP 4 5 6 7 extended editions; used as guidelines and inspiration
  • have I forgot someone, or something?!?

The “Russian anonymous” is called “martokc”, and can you please add me there? I gave you the info on the Russian Extended Editions. Also, you misspelled Adywan’s name.

Also, martokc recently made an updated Extended Edition for The Empire Strikes Back.

And there are two Russian extended editions both made by martokc for Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, one based on the 2011 Blu-ray and one based on the Despecialized Editions. He may also make an update for Return of the Jedi since it’s the only one on the entire saga which he never made a BDRip (720p) version of but only an HDRip (480p) version and he never gave it a Despecialized Extended Edition like the other movies in the Original Trilogy.

And he may also update The Force Awakens with the new deleted scenes on the 3D version.

So always keep an eye out.

I think you should copy martokc and do two versions of your Extended Editions (at least the Original Trilogy), one based on the original unaltered versions and one based on the 2011 Blu-rays.

Er… I’d kind of forgotten about it.

There may be some typos in your Executor DVD covers, particularly in The Empire Strikes Back where it says “Theatuical” with a U.
A typo which isn’t even in the “Programme of Contents” booklet in the Executor set.

Also, can you do an alternate version of said cover but for a regular size case? I usually hate slim cases.

We can talk about more of this on your DVD/BD cover discussion.

Right now ESB v2.5 is in the works. After that, the next releases will be version 3.0 for all 3 films, in 1080p I believe.

I also think that Harmy will be using poita’s scans for Empire Strikes Back when he makes 3.0.

I’m beyond excited!!! 😃

The true definitive version will be version 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo.

He will now add the subtitle to note that he will no longer redo any of the Despecialized Editions when 3.33 comes out.

Here is my idea for this:

  1. 4:3 Pan and scan for the movie footage for HD movie footage and consistent aspect ratio
  2. Japanese LaserDisc and VHS combination for highest quality behind-the-scenes footage without Japanese subtitles
  3. Lossless LPCM digital audio from schorman’s Star Wars LaserDisc audio archive.
  4. Video should be in 4:3, not 16:9 with black bars.

The Dr. Gonzo material is MORE than fine for your needs. I have done my own rips of some VHS documentaries like From Star Wars to Jedi (1983 and 1990 VHS releases) and the Making of Star Wars doco from 1995.

Good luck on your project.

Great. Thanks for the info.

I just need Dr. Gonzo’s Japanese LaserDisc capture of From Star Wars to Jedi but without hardcoded Japanese subtitles.

Maybe you can do a DeSub using said Japanese LaserDisc capture, AviSynth and maybe your VHS rips.

spoRv did a really great tutorial and AviSynth script on this. It can be found here: http://blog.sporv.com/desub-automatic-hardcoded-subtitles-removal/

I can’t do it myself since my laptop is very weak for editing SD video, let alone HD video.

Info Wanted: Best Available Captures of Definitive Collection LaserDisc Extras?
Time

Can anyone help me on the info on which are the best versions of them available?

I am planning to make my own Despecialized Edition DVD set with all of the bonus features on the Definitive Collection LaserDisc box set plus From Star Wars to Jedi as I am also basing this on the UK Executor VHS box set.

I am not sure if I will actually put it up or not because I am a beginner in DVD authoring and I am just compiling the sources.

I already have Making of Star Wars, SP FX - The Empire Strikes Back and Classic Creatures from the 2011 Blu-ray but unfortunately, many other bonus features are only on the LaserDisc box set and the UK Executor VHS box set.

And I have all of the materials I need for the actual movies save for some audio tracks.

I only need the bonus features since I already have the Despecialized Editions.

Is the Dr. Gonzo bonus disc good enough or not? Does it have all the trailers and are the “scope” trailers anamorphic widescreen?

I just need to know which LaserDisc capture is the best LaserDisc capture and I can hunt for that version on the Spleen.

But please, I don’t know how altbin works so please keep it on the Spleen.

The only real request I have (alongside the P.S blurb in the bottom) is the Japanese LaserDisc of From Star Wars to Jedi but without the hardcoded Japanese subtitles.

I could’ve done this easily if I knew how AviSynth works and if my PC is strong enough. But unfortunately, my laptop is very underpowered and it would shut down on it’s own for heavy video encoding jobs.

Anyways, spoRv did a really great tutorial and AviSynth script for masking hardcoded subtitles.

P.S: I am looking for the 1985 mix of Star Wars and the 1993 mixes of the entire Original Trilogy, I am also looking for the 1993 audio commentary of The Empire Strikes Back since that one is the only one I don’t have.

And I can’t download the MKVs for the Despecialized Edition since my hard drive is nearly full and it would be a waste of ratio just for the audio.

I downloaded the AVCHD releases just for some of the audio files and that was already too much. And even then, the audio commentary on The Empire Strikes Back is of a ridiculously low bitrate in comparison to the other commentaries on AVCHD so I didn’t even bother.

I also need the DTS 5.1 cores of each movie from their DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 audio tracks from the MKV releases.

Again, I just need the lossy DTS 5.1 core and not the full lossless audio.

Please, just post these audio files as MKAs on the Spleen.

P.P.S: I also need some logos to make my DVDs look more legit. They should be VOB and made ready for DVD.

First, I need a custom Warning screen for the Despecialized Editions but it must look like it came from a legit DVD as much as possible even though the blurb is the same as in the other DVD covers. I also need the Harmy Film Restoration logo for this.

Second, I need the THX Broadway logo similar to the ones on the official Star Wars DVDs, the Indiana Jones DVDs. and the Pixar DVDs.

Third, I need two company logos, the first one is the 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment logo, it has to be the international 1999 version and it has to be NTSC, most I saw online is in PAL, I think I saw the NTSC version on the Japanese LaserDisc of The Phantom Menace, the Southeast Asian DVDs of The Simpsons Movie, the Filipino VCD of The Phantom Menace and the Hong Kong VCD of The Sound of Music but it should be on most Asian Fox DVDs, particularly, in the Philippines and Hong Kong.

I also need the Special Widescreen Edition version of the CBS/FOX Video logo, I think a DVD quality version exists on the Bruce Lee Master Collection DVD box set.

More info on 20th Century Fox logos here: http://www.closinglogos.com/page/20th+Century+Fox+Home+Entertainment

Thanks in advance.

Could some generous soul upload the synced Mr. Plinkett commentary track for ANH, from the 50GB download, by itself?

Well, I need the 1985 LaserDisc mix of Star Wars and the 1993 mix of the entire trilogy, the 1993 LaserDisc audio commentaries and each movie’s DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix by themselves.

I am making my own DVD-9 (not AVCHD, just a regular DVD) out of them and the only thing I need to do with these audio tracks is to take the DTS 5.1 core from the DTS-HD Master Audio track and put the DTS 5.1 core and everything else on the DVD.

My DVD-9 will most likely have no extras unless I do a bonus disc, and if so, they will only be the bonus features on the 1993 Definitive Collection LaserDisc and another bonus disc for From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga since that was included on the Executor set, which I am mostly basing this on.

Now, I am still a beginner in authoring DVDs so any help would be great.

Thanks in advance.
