Everyone forgets how much Empire Strikes Back was hated when it came out for that twist we all find iconic now. They complained it went against everything we knew in Star Wars… similar to how people reacted to the Last Jedi.

Is that true? I know people thought Vader was lying at first, but did they really think it was against Star Wars? There had only been one Star Wars movie at that point, so I doubt it.

As for new characters that were introduced in Rise of Skywalker, the two most prominent were both added to the script for the same reason: to shout “No homo”. Zorri doesn’t serve the plot, and is only there to be a romantic interest from Poe’s past. Jannah is meant to be a romantic interest to replace Rey (for the sake of Reylo shippers) and Rose. And there was no way we could allow Poe and Finn to have a romantic connection despite their chemistry, fans, and even actors’ desire… but it’s good to know there’s a line JJ won’t cross for fan service.

I agree with Zorii, which is why I’m planning to either remove or drastically reduce her role in my TROS edit. But was there anything vaguely romantic with Finn and Jannah? I thought their connection was more about both of them being former stormtroopers, so they’re like siblings in a sense. I didn’t get any romantic vibes.

World building is overrated. It’s one of the many things that killed TROS.

I actually felt like there wasn’t enough world building. There was way too much exposition, but exposition and world building aren’t the same thing. World building fleshes out the movie’s universe, giving it the proper context. Exposition is an inconvenience, something the movie just needs to get out of the way.

In my opinion, a proper example of world building would be explaining the whole thing with Palpatine’s return. “Secrets only the Sith knew” isn’t a sufficient explanation. We need to know the broad strokes of how he returned, and why he can’t return again. Otherwise, it just feels like Palpatine can come back any time he wants.

I don’t hate this movie nearly as much as most people on here, but I agree that most of the fault lies with Abrams and Terrio. There’s nothing in TFA or TLJ that would prevent the third installment from being good. But instead of sticking to their vision, Abrams and Terrio decided to try and please everyone, which has never worked once in the entire history of entertainment.

Yeah, I heard that rumor too. Cobb Vanth isn’t a very well-established character in the Star Wars universe, but I think they’ll be able to make him interesting in this show.

With several characters that are at least somewhat connected to the Mandalorians rumored to be in the show, I think season 2 is going to dive a lot deeper into Mandalorian history and culture. I’m personally looking forward to it.

Temuera Morrison has (supposedly) been cast as Boba Fett in S2. Which means they want that 2004 ESB dub of Boba Fett to pervade into other media.

Why is that the assumption? He’s just being cast because canonically, that’s what he looks like. It’s not part of some nefarious plot to make people watch the Special Editions. I feel like your constant anti-Disney crusade makes you assume the worst sometimes.

They probably made two different films with all the reshoots they did.

Well, if you look at Kylo’s death closely, it seems to have been shot in reverse AND he says something before he lays down/gets up.

I suspect Kylo lived in at least one or two shoots.

That was debunked long ago. Scenes of people collapsing like that are often filmed backwards to prevent the actor being injured. The whole “Ben lives in an alternate ending” conspiracy theory was just made up by desperate Reylos after the movie’s release.

I hope you’re right but it doesn’t explain Disney clamping down on everything to do with deleted scenes.

JJ has never been a fan of deleted scenes, or BTS material in general. It’s just part of his on-the-fly filmmaking style that makes that sort of stuff confusing. I highly doubt some mythical “original cut” that fixes all the problems exists, there’s literally no evidence to support it.

Just noticed that, like TFA:R, TROS features a planet destruction directly following Kylo having a conversation with Han and resolving himself in a direction. Just this time it doesn’t make us feel anything.

The part of my theater experience when I could have been heard pleading, “Oh, for God’s sake!”

It doesn’t make YOU feel anything, lol.

Yeah, I felt a lot of things during that Han scene.

Blowing up Kijimi… not so much.

I don’t think 5 news outlets confirming it and an implied confirmation from the actress herself counts as “100% false”.

and nothing from Lucasfilm has actually confirmed the Boba Fett and Bo-Katan stuff.

Yeah, that stuff is kind of shakier. But Lucasfilm is notoriously secretive, and Boba Fett and Bo Katan would just make sense given that the show is called “The Mandalorian”. I’m expecting the second season to dive a lot more into Mandalorian history and culture, and feature a backdoor pilot episode for the Rebels sequel.

Those news outlets are clickbait. The actress came out with an interview and didn’t even know how to say Ahsoka’s name correctly.

Then she said:

“Someone did the art and I reposted it. Then star wars started following me. And then everybody started thinking it was a whole thing. And its literally been this internet situation. So internet, if it happens, its because of you.”

Ahsoka won’t be in this next season. That interview was posted in March of 2020 and they already shot season 2 by then.

That was Ashley Eckstein, Ashoka’s voice actress. She isn’t involved with season 2 at all, Ahsoka is being portrayed by Rosario Dawson. In another interview, Dawson said that “I’ll be very excited when it’s confirmed,” implying that she plays Ahsoka in the show, she just can’t announce it yet. Ahsoka is in the show, she just isn’t being played by the person who normally plays her.

No, I wasn’t talking about Eckstein. I AM talking about Rosario Dawson. Why would Ashley Eckstein pronounce a characters name incorrectly after playing her for 12 years? Dawson reposted an image online and people/news outlets started freaking out, that’s literally all we know. Nothing has been remotely confirmed by her or lucasfilm. In the interview I’m talking about titled “Star Wars: Rosario Dawson on Wanting to Play Ahsoka Tano”, she says ASHOKA instead of Ahsoka. Anyways I’ll guess we’re just gonna have to wait and see. 😃

I’m pretty sure you don’t know the whole story. It started out with 5 news outlets independently reporting that Rosario Dawson was going to play Ahsoka in the Mandalorian. That resulted in fans making art of Dawson as Ahsoka. Dawson reposted one of the images, and people just took that as further confirmation. The interview where she obviously talks around confirming that the rumors are true should really put aside all doubts.

Also, I’m not sure a typo in a transcript of an interview proves that she mispronounced it in the interview itself, so I wouldn’t take that either way.

https://youtu.be/bgXb9FkSKCY

I was wrong about the interview date though, its actually from October 2019.

Which kind of invalidates your whole point. They hadn’t even begun filming by that point, all the rumors came from this year. There was also a later interview where she clearly tried to sidestep the issue by saying “when it’s confirmed I’ll be very happy,” which is basically just an implied confirmation.

I agree that we should be talking about something more productive though.
