I had a lot of problems. The opening dream sequence was ludicrously over-the-top, the dialogue was terrible, and Mace Windu’s survival was a ridiculous concept. In my opinion, it’s everything wrong with prequel fans’ interpretation of Star Wars.

Nah, I don’t think that’s good enough. I wouldn’t want to use any footage that’s recognizably from other movies, and that forest interior shot is too short.
I think the best option is to cut it like this:
Short, simple, and to the point.
I think I’ve been convinced that the Battlefront footage belongs. I agree that the two lava shots should be cut though, they break the visual flow of the scene. And I agree that the opening portion of “Journey to Exegol” would be much better than the current music.
I disagree. I think the Battlefront trailer footage and the lava river are too obviously computer animated, and the volcano shot is too obviously taken from a nature documentary. Seamless editing is a big goal with Hal’s edits, and I don’t think the new footage meshes with that goal.

I don’t know if it works. Right now, it seems too “unofficial” to be usable. Maybe Poppa’s TIE fighter shot could work on its own, but I think everything else should go.
I wouldn’t want Exegol to be Korriban. The planet was already shown in Clone Wars season 6, so a lot of the mystery surrounding Palpatine’s lair would be lost.

Not really. The different elements kind of blur together, it looks like something constructed in After Effects rather than created by professional VFX artists. I would leave that shot out of the edit.

Back on topic though, I think Disney+ is the best way to watch the prequels. The colors are much better than on the DVDs, and it’s in much higher quality than DVD could possibly manage.
So, the Death Star Plans are not going to be the same as was shown in AOTC? The original plans look consistent to the concept Death Star. The AOTC’s Death Star Plans were more accurate to what we saw…
I wish that the plans could stay the same, but unfortunately Rogue One used the original version, so it has to be like that for continuity’s sake.
I just hope there aren’t too many changes to coincide with Rouge One… If that happens, to me this would just be 90% Rouge One, and 10& ANH. IMO…
I wouldn’t worry too much, the changes aren’t going to affect the story. Some of it is just undoing changes from the original ANH:R that were contradicted by Rogue One.

How is he going to do this?
He’s planning to restore the original Death Star plans, alter the Death Star firing sequence to look more modern, and recolor the X-Wing engines to a consistent pink. He might be making other changes along those lines, but I’m not sure.
I don’t know. I didn’t like the fan film in the first place, so I might be biased, but I do agree that Star Wars Theory is a pretty scummy guy.
I think the ultimate goal is still the same, plus the added goal of improving continuity with Rogue One, and including fixes that Adywan wasn’t able to include originally.

I just downloaded your second workprint. Looking at the change list, it seems much more radical than it was before, so I’m looking forward to seeing it.
I think it might be an alternate take of the scene where Tarkin decides to blow up Alderaan. The actors’ positions are different, but since the scene was filmed in one shot it wouldn’t be an issue.
I think almost everyone here prefers Despecialized. Even though some parts of the SE actually improved the movies, watching the original Star Wars trilogy without the terrible CGI creatures is amazing.
Yeah, he was literally just stealing the Reddit plot leaks in an attempt to seem at least somewhat credible. Mike Zeroh did the same thing.
And the bit with the Falcon blowing up was stolen from a 4chan “leak” that turned out to be completely fake.
Not really anymore, but they used to. The whole reason this thread was created was because people were wishing death on George when he released the GOUT DVD’s. The bashing has kind of softened over the years, but it still feels like some people here don’t really appreciate George’s positive contributions to the Star Wars franchise.
I don’t think that’s the problem. The shots themselves are a nice length, the problem is that the movie goes frantically between plot points with no time to breathe. Removing and/or reshuffling those plot points would be much better for pacing than artificial slo-mo.
Yeah, it is really conservative, which is weird considering how much Hal hates this movie. Hopefully someone will use this edit as a base to make more radical edits, like with TFA Starlight and TLJ Rekindled.
I just watched the workprint, and I have a lot of thoughts. I don’t have time to list all of them here, but overall I liked your edit. There aren’t many edits (only 2 minutes of footage was cut), but the changes that are there really improve the movie. Once this edit is done, I think the 9000 edits will be my definitive version of the saga.
