Even as I type, I had to skim through the film to remind myself that the Kylo-Palpatine conversation had been moved from heading to Endor. And it introduced a continuity error I don’t believe anyone picked up on until you did.

Perhaps the simplest fix would be to replace or remove the line, “I know where she’s going.”

But that’s still true, isn’t it? Now, it refers to the Knights of Ren tracking them through hyperspace. I actually thought that was a really clever way to repurpose that line.

How many good third movies in a trilogy can you name?

…or 5, or 1, all depending how ya look at it. Japan had a different SMB2 than the rest of the world, so there’s 2 SMB2’s. The original Japanese title is SMB4: Super Mario World. But, as it’s just SMW everywhere else, it could be considered part 1 of it’s own thing.

I’d argue Lost Levels doesn’t count cuz it’s just a glorified level pack, and SMB2 USA doesn’t count because the gameplay is radically different. That leaves 1, 3, and 4 (World in the West).

Oh, so we’re just making up our own dumb rules of reality? Ok, cool.
The Blues Brothers, prequel to Blade Runner, is possibly my favorite of that trilogy.

Yeah, it’s kind of hypocritical that he’s bashing other people for not using the definition of a “trilogy” correctly, but he just made up some arbitrary gatekeeping limit in order to have the fourth Mario game actually be the third one.

They tell us who the music composer is, but they don’t tell us who the stunt coordinator is? That’s kind of dumb. Stunt people should get more recognition in the industry.

Not to diminish Goransson’s score for Mando, of course, it’s great. I’ve listened to the main theme way too many times.

Tenet - Where the spoilers at?
Time

So, a few days ago I contradicted one of my earlier posts by actually going to see the movie.

It was decent, I guess. My main problem was with the first act, which was basically just a mess of exposition scenes sloppily edited together. But once the movie is finished establishing everything we need to know, I actually found myself enjoying it a lot. I wouldn’t call it “good” though, there are still way too many Nolan-isms for me to really like it.

Right now my ranking of Nolan movies, from best to worst, probably goes like this:
The Dark Knight > Interstellar > Batman Begins > The Dark Knight Rises > Tenet > Inception > Dunkirk
I haven’t seen any other movies he’s made.

Although I vented, I was being constructive with the suggestion of removing parts of Kylo doing any “dark side temptations” and just focus on her and the throne vision/talk since there really isn’t much real temptation for her character.

I’ll back peddle the sequel rants, but I was giving a suggestion about it. So let’s not play the ignoring the suggestion part and attack me aspect of it thanks.

But I already provided a counter for the idea that Rey has “no real temptation”. There were many examples of her doing dark side stuff throughout the sequels, so it doesn’t really come out of nowhere like you’re saying. I feel like RogueLeader’s added dialogue definitely tracks with her character in the previous movies.

We get it Jarbear, you hate the sequels. Stop bringing it into every thread about them, it isn’t constructive at all.

I personally felt like Rey was very much tempted by darkness during TLJ. The instant she learned about the Force, she almost destroyed the Jedi temple with her dark power. She has this constantly pissed off look on her face throughout the scene in Snoke’s throne room, which culminates in her scream of rage as she breaks the lightsaber. I think the reveal that RogueLeader suggested is a great way to track that plot element into TROS, without the stupid “evil genetics” explanation of the theatrical movie.

If Luke is appearing, I think it should probably be Sebastian Stan. Although you’d think there might be some report of his involvement if it was happening.

Or it could be Robert Boulter, the guy who was going to play Luke from ESB during a deleted flashback scene in TFA. They had already done a costume test of him as Luke before deciding to scrap the scene, and it looks pretty good:

Of course, they could also do what they did in TROS, and have Luke’s face be deepfaked over someone else. They actually used Mark Hamill in that movie, but that would probably draw too much attention for Mando.

But what am I speculating for, this probably isn’t happening in season 2. If it happens in Mando at all, it will probably be in the series finale.

Also, the season 2 leakers suffered a big hit in credibility recently. Two weeks ago, they said that the trailer would feature a scene of Ahsoka fighting two bounty hunters, but that fight is nowhere to be found here. They also said that Sasha Banks would play Sabine, but she seems to be an original character here. Now I’m starting to doubt whether there really will be any animated characters returning in this season. It seems like we’re back to square one in terms of leaks, and that’s actually really exciting to me.

You must have the same sources I do. Kessel Run Transmissions now say that the new Ahsoka scene (shot only weeks ago) may not have been trailer footage, but it was definitely shot. I trust them on that one. It could be for some other form of marketing, or - although it’s very close to the season itself now, who knows - they may even be saving some reveals for a 2nd trailer, like there was with season 1?

Sounds like an excuse. They specifically said that the trailer had been postponed to accommodate that footage, but it didn’t end up appearing at all. They wouldn’t film a whole new scene specifically for use in a trailer and then end up not using it in that trailer. I think that Ahsoka probably will be in the show, and Temuera Morrison will be involved somehow, since those are the only things that were confirmed by multiple reliable sources. But that’s it as far as my speculation goes.

I think the Jedi in the trailer is most likely there to throw us off. Inside the universe its only really been 5 years since the downfall of the empire. I don’t think there are any Jedi besides Luke. I’m guessing she is an agent of Moff Gideon. Inquistor???

People also said that “It’s time for the Jedi to end” in TLJ and Palpatine’s laugh in TROS were there to throw us off, and look what happened there. 😉

Although I agree that she probably isn’t a “true” Jedi in the traditional sense, her outfit seems much too dark for that. Maybe she could be a surviving Inquisitor, or some type of Dark Jedi.

Whats the best fan edit of Star Wars Episode 9/IX?

One simple question:
Whats the best cut of Star Wars Episode 9/IX?
(feel free to pm me if you dont want to answer in the thread…)

Well, that depends. If you want light, non-radical changes, I would recommend Hal’s workprint of TROS Ascendant. If you want slightly more radical changes that still don’t reduce the movie’s runtime too much, I would recommend Kraufasdr’s TROS Resurgence. If you want the most radical changes possible while still being coherent, I would recommend DonKamillo’s TROS Anti-Cring Cut, accompanied by his previous TLJ edit.

The New Republic EP1: A Vergence in the Force 4K (The Mandalorian Season 1 Edit) [V4 RELEASED]
Time

This edit seems really interesting. I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet, but I hope I will soon.

What I’m worried about, though, is the removal of the Tatooine episode. From what I’ve heard, it seems like the events of that episode will play a key role in the plot of season 2, so I’m worried that cutting that episode will create contradictions with the next season.

Other than that, great job. I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Reconstructing the Sequel Trilogy
Time

I understand that you don’t want to undermine the ROTJ ending (and that’s something I’ve struggled with as well), but I’m not sure that Mothma is the right character to make that happen. Ignoring her lack of screen time for a second, one of her defining traits is that she was part of the Rebellion from the beginning. She basically founded the beta version of the Rebellion in ROTS, and her biggest role was as the leader of the entire organization in Rogue One. I doubt that she would be an Imperial agent all along, given how long she’s been there.

The problem, then, is who should be the leader of the Imperial rebellion? Maybe it could be some disgruntled Imperial leader, pissed that the Rebellion won so easily, and trying to rebuild the Empire to be stronger than before. Picture Moff Gideon from Mando, just with much more power and resources.

Reconstructing the Sequel Trilogy
Time

Sorry about that, I edited the post. I was having a bit of a rough time last evening, so I guess I just wanted to vent my frustration. I just can’t see MON MOTHMA, of all people, being the real villain all along. I know she also had a bit role in two other movies, but I can’t imagine her being in cahoots with Palpatine the whole time.

The Rise Of Skywalker - Abrams' Vision or Executive Meddling?
Time

Excellent post, Broom Kid. I was trying to avoid answering the question directly, but you summed my feelings up perfectly. Just because Abrams made one good Star Wars movie doesn’t mean he can’t make a bad Star Wars movie. His on-the-fly storytelling method is the main reason why the latest movie was so disappointing. Sometimes it’s a blessing, like in TFA, other times it’s a curse.

I just noticed that one of the mods changed the title to say “Abrams’ Vision” rather than “Abrams’ Lunacy”. Props to them for that, it sounds a lot more neutral and less confrontational.

I personally don’t have a big problem with TROS as a movie. I used to hate it so much that I tried to deny the existence of the sequel trilogy as a whole, but looking back on it I think my problems with the movie were really overblown. It’s not a very good story, and the other two sequels were surely better, but at the end of the day it’s not really a “bad” movie in my opinion. Disappointing sure, but I’m not going to say that the saga is ruined because of it.

First, maybe cut just a few almost still frames from that shot of icy moon that once was Fores Moon of Endor? Just before Falcon shows up. It still has the vibe of: “you know that place, but we’re going somewere else”. But we’re now really going to Forest Moon, and this icey moon means nothing.

I didn’t even realize that the other moon was supposed to be Endor though, and I don’t think anyone else did either. It’s a blink-and-you-miss-it type shot, and I don’t know where you’re getting that from.

Secondly, Reys added(?) line “the Death Star” sound unnatural, not fitting the rest of her sentence about old wars.

That wasn’t added, it was in the original movie. I don’t hear anything unnatural about it.

Great work with restructuring Luke and Rey talk. Could we try to have a line: “… don’t face your fear”, instead of “Palpatine”? That could strenghten the message that Luke and Leia learned from mistakes of Jedi of the past, and they weren’t hiding Reys heritage, and Luke gives her quest to fight her own weeknes, not to kill her family.

But Hal already cut the “Leia knew it too” part of the conversation, so it doesn’t really matter. That implication is gone in this version, and I have no idea how you would edit the line like that.

I would also add more R2 and 3PO prequel theme, it’s nice piece of music. And maybee, if Chewie has to survive, maybe 3PO will have his memory permanently deleted? After that his role in the film is very limited. It wouldn’t require much work to make it beliviable I think.

Hal has always been a big believer in maintaining canon, so I don’t think he would want to cut that.

Silent duel is realy slow and blank. Putting Samuel Kim mashup of Battle of the Heroes and Duel of the Fates is realy lighting it up.

We already tried that, and it doesn’t really work. It feels too “epic” for the tone of the scene.

And there is no chance to have this cute look from Poe to Finn instead of Zori? 😃

I’m personally not a big fan of the whole Poe/Finn ship, mainly because there’s very little evidence for it besides maybe one or two moments in TFA. Not all male friends have to be gay, and I think editing it like that would just be cheesy.

I will still fight for this transition. In my opinion it just flows into the credits SO much better. And I love the end theme starting with the Skywalker theme, then Rey, then the Star Wars theme. Plus how it hits that long note how the Falcon flies away. I think it would be a shame not to have that 🤷‍♂️

Which track from which film has the Rey theme that you and Hal are using going into the credits?

It’s from “The Jedi Steps and Finale”, in the TFA soundtrack, at the very end of the credits:
