I’m not looking into anything too much. I’m looking at precisely what is visible on screen and determining that the CGI replacements are artistically inferior to the original shots.

Um… why not have motion that fit with Star Wars-period effects? ROTJ wasn’t shot like SW.

Because the effects in the original movie, to be perfectly frank, weren’t as good as the other two. Back then, they only had the technology to show spaceships moving in straight lines, and big battle scenes like the Yavin battle looked kind of iffy because of it. The new effects of the ANH-SE space scenes really help bring that movie more in line with the dynamic motion of the other two movies.

I know it wasn’t. I’m just saying that the way they shot the space shots in the first movie doesn’t look very good nowadays, and I think it deserves an update.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. I may have been hasty to call it “indisputably better”, but it certainly looks much better to me. The original effects haven’t aged very well in my eyes.

I’m still not sure that’s actually a mistake. It’s a tracking shot following these fast-moving spaceships as they travel around the curvature of a planet, so there really isn’t any proper frame of reference there. And the SE Yavin battle is indisputably better purely because of the increased dynamic motion.

Hey, at least it’s better than “regular-looking human with a weird forehead,” like we got a thousand times in Star Trek.

Which leads me to my next unpopular opinion: Discovery’s Klingons look better than any previous design for them. The only problem with them is the fact that they clearly contradict their already established appearance, with no apparent explanation as to why.

I don’t really see the need to aggressively remove all traces of the SE from everything that references them. Like it or not, those are the canon versions now, and the changes that have been referenced so far are not really ones I’m bothered by.

I was actually reminded more of the movie Tremors with the Krayt dragon than I was of Dune. In fact, the entire episode seemed like a whole plot reference to that movie. A small desert town is menaced by a sand monster that picks up vibrations, causing the inhabitants of the town to band together and defeat the monster using clever trickery? It felt like this season’s answer to the Seven Samurai reference that was Season 1, Episode 4.

I just watched the latest episode, and WOW. This is probably the best episode of Mando so far.

I always thought the episode lengths of season 1 were way too short, so this one being 50 minutes long really helped. It especially works for this one, because it’s a one-shot problem of the week type story. Timothy Oliphant as Cobb Vanth was a welcome presence, and I loved how they recapped his backstory for people (like me) who didn’t read the Aftermath books.

Unfortunately, the reveal of that one guy was spoiled for me, but I was still insanely hyped when I saw his cameo at the end. I really loved this episode, and I’m looking forward to seeing what else this season brings us.

New EU: The uncontrollable flatulence at Snap Wexley’s wedding.

Sometimes I doubt if Ronster has even seen the movie.

Time will tell, but I don’t think I cut anything crucial. I suspect sufficient exposition will be given in season 2.

Well, from what we’ve seen so far, Mando will have to return to Tatooine at some point, and they’ll probably bring the events of episode 5 into it. Also, it seems like the blue guy from the opening scene of episode 1 will be making a return.

So I wouldn’t recommend watching season 2 for someone who has only watched this edit beforehand. But then again, I just don’t like the idea of someone seeing a fan edit before the original source material in the first place.

The difference is that it’s not purely coincidence that Vader’s master was the person Leia was searching for to stop…Vader and the Empire. It also isn’t a stretch that Vader’s master wanted to be in close proximity to Vader’s son. These things are connected in a way that isn’t mere coincidence.

The daughter and droids coincidence was made by later films, which kinda proves my point.

Yes, they did do a retroactive justification, but that doesn’t mean it was never an issue in the first place. And just because a weird plot issue was introduced by later films doesn’t mean it isn’t an issue either. Like I said from the beginning, I’m just trying to prove that Disney didn’t start the Star Wars franchise’s obsession with weird coincidences.

I don’t think this is intended to be a way of “burying the original,” given that info about the original is still easy to find online. Not everything Disney does has a nefarious motive.

And also, the original Holiday Special is an absolute trash fire, and it doesn’t deserve to be on Disney+ or anywhere else really.

Pretty good! The only thing I have a problem with is the shaking effect on Vader’s ship, it looks way too fake. Other than that, good job!
