Yeah, I do like that dub a lot, he actually managed to make Jar Jar genuinely funny. I’m also kind of iffy on the wife bit though, Star Wars never really had double entendres or sexual humor until the Disney era. It should be pretty easy to cut, though.

I think he actually did make a full edit, but you can only get it by PM’ing his Reddit account. He also did a TLJ edit, which is most well-known for having Ackbar survive the bridge explosion and do the Holdo maneuver (not Ivan’s edit though, this guy’s version of that was actually good).

I’ve said this before but people use way too many all caps words in their crawls. If you look at the movies they only do one or two.

To be fair, the movies themselves have become guilty of that recently. TROS’s crawl had 6 all-caps phrases, a record for the franchise so far. Reigning in the all-caps is certainly an option though.

I’m gonna assume Never Say Die is a Bond film because that’s a Bond title if I’ve ever seen one.

Well, from what I’m reading, it’s supposed to be a parody of Bond movies, so that makes sense.

But the Temuera Morrison movie I was thinking of inserting into Star Wars was The Brighton Miracle. When Boba sits in his bacta tank, he should get flashbacks of his time as coach for the Japanese national rugby team.

Interesting how much they’re throwing in the prequel references. This latest episode featured Din flying a Naboo starfighter, which he built with the help of pit droids, through the Beggar’s Canyon podracer route. All Phantom Menace iconography.

Well, the people who grew up with the prequels are now old enough to give Disney money, so it makes sense they’d start pandering to them. 😉

Book of Boba Fett Spoilers

Would it be possible to use brief footage of the destruction of Mandalore flashback from EP5 in an updated Alderaan explosion?

Book of Boba Fett Spoilers

I doubt it: the Mandalore flashback clearly shows the planet being exterminated by droids rather than just exploding. It could be useful for a “single Death Star” edit where the only Death Star is the incomplete one from ROTJ, in order to have something else destroy Alderaan, but for a normal edit it’s probably useless.

Mando EP3: A New Path (A Book of Boba Fett Edit) [RELEASED]
Time

Honestly, given how Mando-focused the latest episode was, I’m not even sure we need to do a BoBF edit. Just have the Mando season 3 edit start with BoBF episode 5, then cut from Mando testing his new ship to the scene of him visiting Grogu next episode, and then have the actual season 3 of Mando begin. We get all the Mando backstory we need, without ever needing to show Boba at all.

Thinking way ahead to ROTS, does anyone know if this scene from Goya’s Ghosts was released:

I skimmed through that movie twice without seeing it although this image was released as part of promos.

I haven’t seen that movie, but if you’re looking for footage of Padme holding Leia for continuity with ROTJ, there’s a scene like that from The Other Boleyn Girl that many editors have used. Hal 9000’s edit corrected the baby’s eye color in that scene to match Leia’s eye color, so you could probably just take the clip from his edit.

The Place to Go for Emotional Support

Am I a needy, emotionally insecure person?

I wouldn’t go that far, but given how much you’ve been posting about your personal issues recently, it seems like you have a strong desire for companionship and validation. That’s not a problem, everyone has that desire to some degree. But I would recommend being more forward-going and strong-willed when it comes to your personal life. If you just keep stewing in your own emotions, nothing good will come of that. But if you assert yourself and make strong efforts to find the validation you seek, I’m sure you’ll find it eventually.

The Star Wars Saga: As Presented by a Text-Filling AI
Time

I’ve been messing around with the text-filling AI on InferKit.com, and I decided it would be interesting if I input the opening paragraph of the first Star Wars movie and had the AI describe the rest of the story. So behold, an AI’s interpretation of the Star Wars saga, even including a few movie titles:

It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star. With this intelligence, the rebels are able to remotely activate the weapon’s self-destruct mechanism, thus sparing the lives of millions. With no way to stop the Empire, the Rebels risk all in a dangerous pursuit to locate the imprisoned Luke Skywalker, and the catalyst for the Rebel victory, Han Solo.

As their pursuit leads them across the Outer Rim and into the Unknown Regions, the rebels encounter some familiar faces –- including Han Solo and Chewbacca –- while mingling with new heroes and villains. Together, they struggle to carry out their mission while dodging Imperial troopers and investigating a mystery that has haunted the Galaxy for many years: the disappearance of the true last Jedi.

Join Luke Skywalker as he trains Rey in the ways of the Force. Help Chewbacca navigate the hazards of an environment as inhospitable as Tatooine. Immerse yourself in an adventure filled with stunning action. Join Princess Leia as she leads the charge to unlock the secrets of the galaxy. May the force be with you!

Includes:

Introduction: The Star Wars™ Saga Expanded Universe

Secrets of the Sith

Star Wars™: Rebel Rising

Star Wars™: The Last Jedi

Star Wars™: Shadow of the Empire

Star Wars™: Scum and Villainy

Star Wars™: Rogue Squadron

Is there still going to be an update that adds the Temuera Morrison second audio track for Boba Fett? There are some great dialogue “updates” that could be used from some of the games where he voiced Jango/Boba.

That update already happened, in the recently released 1080p version. However, as far as I’m aware, it’s just the unmodified SE audio.

EDIT: Never mind, apparently that’s only coming with the Blu-ray files, which will be released after the full trilogy is done. So no, it hasn’t been released yet.

Editing other sci-fi movies into Star Wars stories
Time

About the Dune idea, I actually think Villenueve’s Dune trilogy (when it’s completed) would make a pretty neat alternate sequel trilogy. It would be set hundreds of years after the OT, with the opening crawl establishing the Bene Gesserit as being a sisterhood of Force users. The spice on Arrakis would be the same spice mentioned in Star Wars, and since they would still use hyperspace travel all connections between the spice and space navigation would be removed. Other than that, there’s not much you’d need to do, aside from giving it a somewhat more StarWars-y coat of paint.

The Book Of Boba Fett (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *

Well, this episode was actually really good. In fact, it’s probably the best one in the show so far. They really did a good job justifying Boba’s recent attitude: it’s not that he’s become soft, just that he’s tired of the endless cycle of petty conflict, and wants to forge a better path. It feels like what I wish Luke was like in the sequel trilogy.

I’m also really looking forward to how they wrap this up. They seem to be teasing this massive battle between Boba’s accumulated forces and the Pykes, and it sounds epic. Also really looking forward to Din’s return (if that’s what the music at the end was teasing). I just hope Rodriguez isn’t directing any more episodes.

What if when Luke goes to visit Ben, Ben lights his lightsaber first? That could go a long way to fixing what people perceived as a betrayal of Luke’s character. Will it completely win over most of them? Probably not, but I think it could still help.

How exactly would that work? Ben was asleep during the whole lightsaber-igniting affair. If you’re planning to have him wake up, ignite his lightsaber, and then show Luke’s “briefest moment of pure instinct”, that just sounds unnecessarily elaborate.

My personal favorite solution to the whole “Luke almost killed his nephew” thing is DonKamillo’s approach: Cut to black after Luke says “Snoke had already turned his heart”, and then cut to Ben looking at Luke (with the saber glow in his eyes removed). That way, it seems like Kylo saw Luke standing over him in his sleep and assumed the worst, allowing the whole Rashomon flashback thing to be kept in without Luke’s murderous instincts.

Fanedit.org: How to reset the password for the forums?
Time

I’ve already posted this in the “How-To’s and Technical Discussions” section, but no one has responded in a whole day, so I figured I should repost it in an area that people visit more often.

I’ve been trying to log back into my account on the fanedit.org forums for a while now, but I’ve been running into a major issue: it doesn’t let me reset the password for that section of the site. It lets me reset the password for IFDB, but when I use that same password for the forums it says “incorrect password”. I don’t see where I can reset the forum password: Even on the forums, all the password reset links are for IFDB. Are there any fanedit.org users who could help me out with this? I would really appreciate it.

So the movie premiered on HBO last night, and I tuned in and cranked up the colour saturation to its maximum, and even though it’s just a minor detail, the viewing experience was a much improved one for me.

Seriously, this movie looks waaaaayyy better with boosted colours.

Yeah, the extremely desaturated dead-looking color grading is probably one of my biggest problems with the movie (along with the pointless spaceship montages). I don’t get why “real is brown” has become such a big thing with sci-fi and fantasy: pretty much the only modern show of that genre that actually looks alive is The Expanse (and even then it only looks half-alive).

Has it? BR 2049 is pretty colorful, depending where they are of course. But yeah, color grading is one thing that can really put me off even though a movie was good. If I see even a glimpse of a movie/TV show with teal/orange thing going on, not going to watch it.

I guess that movie was pretty colorful, although it was more because of heavy tinting than because of high saturation in general. But besides that movie, my point about most sci-fi looking way too dull still stands. Also, it’s pretty ironic that the same person who directed BR2049 also directed Dune, the movie I was complaining about in the first place.

People are saying he doesn’t feel like Boba Fett from the past, but I’m not sure this is even the same guy who wasted Bib Fortuna without a second thought.

Yeah, that’s why I included Mandalorian when I talked about how Boba used to act. If softboy Boba was really the result of natural character development, then why was he still acting like OG Boba even after the Tusken experience? It feels like he just did a complete 180 in personality the moment he sat on Jabba’s throne.

Anyway have I missed something but why does he need bacta baths in the present time and not right after the digestive pit?

So they can shoehorn in some Tusken flashbacks while still having the story feel somewhat cohesive. Not that I’m complaining, since the Tusken flashbacks are the best part of the show, but still.

The Book Of Boba Fett (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *

I agree with everyone else that the biker gang is probably the worst part of the show so far. They were built up as being these threatening cyborg warriors, but they look and act more like the protagonists of a crappy YA dystopia novel. Their rainbow colored Spy Kids speeders don’t look very good either. And don’t get me started on that chase scene: the entire thing was basically just “Oh no, we’re about to crash into a recognizable thing from the previous movies!” I mean, they even crash into a Ralph McQuarrie concept painting!

Also, I feel like they made Boba way too soft in this show. I get that he’s been through some traumatic stuff, but he just seems blind to the realities of running a criminal organization. Instead of him being the calculating warrior from the OT and Mando, his solution to everything seems to be “give the bad guys some money and hope they go away.” And that tendency was especially bad this episode: did they really need to include that scene of him going kawaii-mode over the baby Rancor?

So yeah, the latest episode has definitely knocked this show down a couple pegs in my opinion. Hopefully the show will redeem itself somewhat by the end of the season.
