"...but Vaders chest plate now has flashing lights to match the rest of the trilogy."
-Wow! I didn't think something like that would be possible! Good luck!

"Added the hyperspace tunnel in the scene after they escape the Death Star (see pic below). Also added a shot of the Falcon exiting hyperspace as it reaches Yavin."
-Yeah! Can't wait to see a vid of this! Fun stuff!

"Changing the speederbike scene with the jawas. i'm keeping it in but the one Jawa's no longer falls off and the other one doesn't swing."
-Hmmm...that will be interesting. Go for it!

"Re-edit the lightsaber duel to give it more pace."
Ah! This is what I've been talking about! Not actually deleting scenes, but trimming a few shots here and there...pick up the pace.

"Adding a new matte to the chasm swing scene to give a greater view of the depth of the chasm."
-I could dig this too!

"Add extra effects to the tie fighter battle so the Falcon doesn't just sit there as they attack."
-Cool! Maybe put a planet in the background passing by? Oh! Maybe Mustafar?

"the old atari graphics on a projector screen just doesn't fit in with the scematics in AOTC & ROTJ. I want to change it to a red hologram to match."
-That change might be just enough to please the PT fans and not upset the OT fans.

cbaka: Those lightsabers look great! Very vibrant!

OK, here's another idea to argue over:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/lookingAtMos.jpg
Obviously it would have to look alot better than the image I've created, but I thought it might be fun.
And it would certainly have to not be distracting like the image above. The image I've created fills way too much of the frame...and it distracts from Luke & co.
But, again, all in fun!

As far as displays screens go: I can see both sides of the arguement.
I don't really like the idea of putting in LCD screeens in ANH. But updating a *little* would be nice.
Because even the displays in ESB and ROTJ look better than ANH.
At the very least, put in some subtle sound fx for the death-star-trench-plan with the rebels.
I don't think there are any sound fx in that scene.....right?

Trooperman, I'm diggin' the new voices! No complaints here! Man, this is gonna be a fun movie to watch!

The TF March I always liked...but play around with it...it never hurts...

Jar Jars voice: I agree with Sluggo. Not too different. A little fimiliar. But, again, it doesn't hurt to play around with it...

I was just wondering...did you end up using any pieces of the deleted scenes in this edit? I seem to recall you were going to try and use some of the family scene?

My whole intention is to tie all 6 films together so that if you watch them back to back so that:
1. OT doesn't look so dated with its effects compared to the PT. Plus there was a lot of things in ANH that i was hoping Lucasfilm had fixed by now, but haven't and doesn't look like they are planning on anytime soon.
2. by adding a few tie-ins from the PT to the OT (and editing the PT) they flow together better (and not just a montage of planets at the end of the saga
This is exciting to hear! I've wanted to do my own for the same reasons. You might want to edit your original first post on this thread to include what you just wrote. It might be helpful for new people coming in.

I've had an idea of, as a special feature, making a montage of completely new clips or shots. I want to throw a few humourous ones in too, so let me know. I will probably only have the capability & material to do some but it could be a cool special feature for the DVD
Hmm interesting. If I think of anything, I'll let you know.

If anyone has a DVD of ANH with a foreign 5.1 audio track could you please post just the ripped .ac3 file somewhere please.

I wish I could help out. I know squat about this stuff!

...and Endor just looks too bright green I can't stand to watch it!

Funny. I thought just the opposite. All the greens look too muted on Endor. Not very vibrant colors...

The one shot I'd really like to see fixed Adywan, and which to my knowledge no edit has done yet, is when R2 gets shot in the Death Star Trench. The whole thing just looks really badly composited

Yeah, I'd like to see that happen too. The smoke you added to the second shot looks great though, Adywan!

As far as the big rock holding up the speeder goes...
I'd love to see the rock go too...but I also know it would be very difficult to get it to look right too.

I have another question, adywan:
Will you be taking anything out of this edition? I know you're having Han shoot first and all...but are you removing any other SE stuff?
I pretty much enjoyed all the SE...I'd like most of it to say in. But that's just me.

I'm also wondering if you're removing (now, people, take it easy) anything from the ORIGINAL film. "Like what?" you may ask. Well, maybe trim down some of the driods on Tatoonie stuff? I wouldn't really remove any particular scene. Just some of the "excess" stuff. That whole sub plot takes forever. I could be more specific if needed.

I guess it would help if you discussed the extent of the changes you are making here, adywan.
Is this a stand alone version? or episode 4 in the saga?
My guess is it's the later. Just by looking a your first post in the thread:

"Pistol blasts now match closer to the prequel trilogy..."
"Also re-painted the sabers so they tie in with the rest of the saga."

As far as the senate scene goes, it would be fun to see, but I feel the same way as tellen. Just not needed.
Maybe as a deleted scene though?

daveytod: thanks for the kind words! I thought it turned out reasonably well too!

Erikstormtrooper:
Thank you for the kind words as well!
Yeah, I don't think the darkened rebel briefing room accomplishes anything either...it just *might* bring it out of that 70's look that it's in.

Well, the only way I could see the rain shot working would be this:
You'd have to find a rain element shot against a black screen...most likely from a behind-the-scenes on a DVD. Could be a pain to find one.
I also found this website: http://www.vce.com/ImageLibrary/wrs.html
If you could get larger resolution of a few of these, it just might work! Looks like you'd have to buy it from their store...hmmm

Adywan:
Once again, thank you for the kind words! I will certainly keep the ideas coming!
Yeah, it may be too much like ROTJ...then again, Lucas loves it when things rhyme!

I'm may try and slow the scene down slightly but it may mean starting the scene from scratch. I did want to insert an establishing shot of Alderaan with Bail looking up at the Death Star as it sets into orbit but i haven't figured out where i could insert it and still keep the flow of the scene.

This may do the trick just fine. You might be able to insert it right after we actually see the DS entering the Alderaan system. Then you would cut back to the DS with Tarkin and Liea.
I'll have some more thoughts coming later...

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

OK, adywan, you’ve gotten me way too excited here.
So I don’t pretend to have the best ideas for possible changes to Star Wars, but a few things have come to my crazy mind I’d like to share. Reply accordingly.

First off:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/LukeRain_01.jpg
I just really like the idea that out of all six movies, it rains on Tatoonie ONCE. When? When everything begins to change. When a new hope is possible. A cleansing rain.
And I wouldn’t have it pour…just begin to sprinkle. My image has too much rain in it.

2nd:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/Plan_01.jpg
This is probably the worst Photoshop image I’ve done.
But you get the idea. I don’t want it to look like *my* image, but maybe change something in the scene…I like the idea that the lights might darken.

3rd and 4th:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/Escape_01.jpg
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/Escape_02.jpg
OK, this just has always bugged me. How do the rebels get so far away from the DS before it blows up? This could solve that problem. I think you get the idea. I like this because it adds even *more* tension to the scene. Will they get out of there in time? I guess it’s similar to ROTJ in that way. The hardest shot would be the DS blowing up and the falcon & company flying by in the same shot. *IF* you were to do this, the nice thing is you wouldn’t have to retime the music or anything. The shots could still be the same length.

I know, I know, some of these ideas are too radical, too impossible, too pointless, or too stupid to some. But since I’ll probably never get to try this in my own edit, I wanted to throw it out there.
If I'm out of line for sharing these here in this thread, just let me know.

It's so cool to see this new shot inserted into this scene!
I've wanted to see something like this for years now!
My only concern is that it goes by too quickly. I had to watch it serveral times to see everything in it.
Tellen asked if there was some sort of establishing shot of the planet...I think that might make it work.
But again, wow! Jiminy cricket was right...my dreams are coming true!

I can't wait to see the whole dang movie!
I was watching ROTJ last night and thinking about all the things I'd change, cut, and add...it looks like some of it may be possible now!

OH! Did you take out that really loud sub sound as the DS is preparing to fire? It's quite distracting...plus that sound isn't used in ROTJ.

Oh yeah! Forgot to mention the Dukoo/Obi clip! VERY nice! Such an "easy" edit too! Why wasn't this originally done? Missed oppertunity. Sad.

Anakin: Your attempt on Padme’s life will cost you. Prepare to meet your destiny.
THIS is something I was looking for, MTHaslett! That just flows much better.

(By the way, I like the idea of seeing Anakin burn a little after seeing Padme fall-- but the big picture there is how he agrees to go on without her-- so the cuts should take us through that journey in his emotions. He's becoming a man and accepting Obi Wan's ways in spite of his emotions. He knows that's what will make him a Jedi. He knows that's what Padme would do. This key beat is undermined in the original cut and we need to prop it up to achieve what it is supposed to-- the climax of their love story. Now Anakin starts the movie with his emotions slipping out of control (because of his Force-connection to his mother), but he learns to control himself with Padme's help. This is one of the ways we're going to FEEL the impact of their love in this new cut -- as opposed to the original where we had to be told about their love and were never allowed to feel it.)

Wow! Nicely said, MTHaslett. I like your insights!

OK, for some reason, I'm not a fan of having Anakin saying: "You've *PROBABLY* killed my girl!"
At least the word "probably" should go. But that's just me. It just doesn't sound...right.

I'm not attached to the following, but have a look anyway:
"Not only have you killed many Jedi today, you've just killed Padme!"
or
"You've just taken Padme's life!"
or
"Lifeless she is!" -hey, maybe Yoda rubbed off on him!

The idea you're going for, Trooperman is great! And using other Chris Lee dialoge is a great idea! Any thought to using other dialoge for other characters (like Padme?)
Anyway, THIS scene is what I'm really looking foward to seeing! ...and of course the rest of the movie!

Again, if you need to take your time...take it! It'll be worth it!

Sorry, I thought I had replied to your PM a few weeks back.
I don't think I got it. But I'm also not 100% how to check my PMs...

I think its a brilliant idea and it does look much better than the red but, after trying on short scene, the results weren't too good. There is a lot of red colour bleeding especially on 3PO that caused a lot of problems, so I’m afraid I won't be changing that.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Darn!

Oh man! THIS is stuff I've waited to see for a looong time!

01. new lightsabers.
--LOVE IT! I'm wondering...didn't you say something about improving audio in this release? Obi's voice jumps all over the place in this sequence.

02. The Falcon being persued by the stardestroyer...
--This is simply amazing. Isn't that a modified ESB falcon? Simply awesome.

03. a shot of the Death Star approaching Yavin...
--I actually can't remember what the original shot looked like, but this looks great! Blends right in.

04. New Death star view screen display, plus the next shot of Vader & Tarkin has been colour corrected to remove the blue glow
--Again, didn't really notice much, but usually color correction goes unnoticed in a movie...which it usually should.

05. Just after the wipe from this scene Han can be seen in front of the Y-wing but you can tell that only half the set piece was built. I've added the wing in the background to correct this.
--Sweet again!

06. As Luke rises in his X-wing from the Yavin IV hanger you can now see, from his rear window, that it rises out of the temple. It now seems to flow better with the next shot of the ships leaving yavin IV.
--THIS is my favorite! I've always wanted to see that!

Had another question for ya: Did you see the image I posted a page or two back?

Thanks for your responses, Trooperman!
I used some footage from Star Wars, but none from TPM.
Hmm...yeah, I thought there was one shot...uh the one that seems to be a zoomed in shot of a Tuskin shooting. Anyway...

I was wondering if anyone happened to have a better cap of that shot from the documentary?

Wish I could help...I haven't seen that doc in years!

I'm thinking about maybe asking someone else to tackle all of the Upatu/Kashyyk stuff in the style of SOTDS

Interesting...you mean as far as editing style goes?

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, you've made it clear that the trailer is incomplete, and you'll be cleaning up more for the final film. So I'm excited!

Oh, and my 2 cents for the senate scene: I'm thinking Erikstormtrooper's idea sounds tasty!

I think the compositing has something of a 1980s charm about it
Right, I think so too. I guess, then, I'm wondering where you draw the line as far as changes go?
The ones I pointed out are not horrible, but I thought part of the idea with this project was fixing the little things?
By the way, I'm not attacking your position, I am simply wondering.
You might at least look at that first snow speeder explosion...it looks a little pink.

Disagree. Maybe I just have never looked that hard, but I've always thought that the effects in ESB were the most realistic overall.
I would agree with you on that. And I am by no means bashing the hard work that ILM did at the time. Just my own opinion on a few changes...
I guess, more than anything, I just like the idea or experimenting with a 20+ year old movie.

Oh, I do plan on blurring the Falcon's shadow, forgot to mention that.

Cool. Yeah, I think that'll help.

McDiarmid will appear on screen and say the lines, but what those lines might be...

Hmmm...curious!

OK, just a few of my thoughts for the project:

I think most of these fixes are obvious, but I also know some of them probably aren't fixable, or even worth fixing.
The red check marks are the ones I would like fixed most.
Yeah, the hoth base shot has probably bothered me the longest.
It's so obvious that it's two different images put together.

This project is really exciting! LOVE the "trailer"!

OK, here's an idea for your project-...or anyone else who wants to try it.
I've heard lots of people say the computer screens in ANH look too 70's. Specifically the control in the death star where our heros hide out.
It would be nearly (if not entirely) impossible to rotoscope the actors from the backgrounds and put something behind them that is seamless, right?
Well, I'm wondering if there's not a plan B:

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/3P0_01.jpg

I'm not sure how easy this would be, but isn't that much easier on the eyes? I didn't realize how ugly that red was til I played with the colors a bit.
I don't know how you guys feel about this. I know Lucas has said that the impirial colors have always been black, white, and red. But that's not really the right red.
Also, again, I don't know how easy this would be to do in this scene.
I took the image in photoshop, took the red hues and turned them blue. That didn't fix everything. Lukes face turned blue. 3PO did a little as well.
Well, whatever you guys think, it's always fun to play around!

Now it’s my turn to comment on the trailer! Alright, you know I’m going to be picky, but I’ll be gentle!

-Yes, I agree with everyone about Anakin’s voice. Just pitch it up a little. But yeah, I’m amazed at how much you sound like JEJ! It’s great!
-ALSO be careful with Anakin’s enunciation. His line “when I first started my training…” sounds like he’s mumbling. In fact, you might want to take the opportunity to change that piece of dialogue.
-I like the “at your service” line! Padme’s reaction is great!
-Yeah, I’m not sure about some of the color correction. The moonlight scene is a little…eh. But there’s probably no way around it, so I’ll deal with it.
-Love 3PO’s new dialogue! Can’t wait to see the rest of his scene!
-Shmi’s dialogue and scream *does* sound canned. You could add some reverb to her voice and make it sound more dream-like.
-The ANH and TPM clip will work, I guess. I know you tried to disguise the clips and make it more like a dream, but us fans will know. And maybe that’s not really a problem!
-Mace’s lightsaber: You gotta love it! Man, what a pain to do that frame by frame!
-Lama Su’s voice: Amazing! Great new dialogue!
-OK, so the dune footage might actually work! It looks pretty fun!
-The “I hope you like flying” line should go. But that has been discussed.

Side note: I think it would be alot of fun to have Anakin say: “I have you now!” just like in ANH. Not sure what scene though...

Again, I can’t wait for this thing to come out!
Please take my “negative” comments about the trailer to fuel your passion in finishing this awesome DVD!
I know this is really too early to ask, but: Are you planning on playing around with ROTS?

I was thinking about SSWR's ideas for the monster introductions. It would clean up the presentation, but it seems like it would be a little too formuliac.

I thought about that as well, Sluggo. I think I know where you're coming from.
The idea behind it (for me) is that it might feel a little more OT.
Just like you said: see the monster, you see the heros (or the person who is going to fight the monster) reaction.
I seem to recall this happening in ROTJ with Luke and the rancor.
The only reason I bring it up is because there never seems to be ANY tension or apprehension in this scene.
Will our heros survive? Well, they don't seem to concerned about it, so yeah, probably.

The idea was that Anakin/Padme had a plan to get out, and Obi-Wan didn't. Therefore, the emphasis is on Obi-Wan, and the arena battle is pretty much from his point of view. Also, in the new storyline, Anakin is still angry at Obi-Wan for indirectly causing his mother's death, and thus Anakin isn't cracking jokes with Obi-Wan during the arena. Also, the "bad feeling" line has been moved to the sequence before the droid factory, when the door shuts behind Padme and Anakin.

Cool! More emphasis on Obi-Wan? I can't wait to see it!
The fact that your dubbing Anakin's voice must give you much greater freedom to play with the overall story, eh? Much more than I've suspected!

Are there many changes when Dooku shows up? How about the Mace and Fett fight?

OK, I must have WAY too much time on my hands

Trooperman:
Are you keeping any of the monster battle?
'Cause I was watching it last night and a few things popped out at me:

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/monsteredit.jpg
This could be a new way to edit the scene.
We show the monster, then we show the heros' reaction. For some reason this was not done in the movie.
Why? Shouldn't we feel some tension with our heros? Sure, they're Jedis, but, hey, these things look dangerous!
Now, I'm not suggesting that you cut it exactly how I've pictured it here. I like alot of the shots in between these shots.
But showing the Jedis' reaction could help alot. Sadly there's not a good reaction shot of Padme.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/Padme_Reverse.jpg
OK, we all hate it when Padme jumps 100 feet and lands perfectly undamaged onto the monster and kisses Anakin, right?
Well, I think these shots of Padme could work if you reversed the footage.
These shots are of Padme actually CLIMBING the pillar. Let's just reverse them!
Probably not the first image, because of the smoke in the background, but I think you could use the second.
It would show that, although she is brave and strong, she's not a Jedi and can't do superhuman things.

OK, I'm typing this quickly...hopefully haven't left anything out!

OK, has anyone seen MasterEdition.com?

I don't agree with everthing he says, but he's got a few ideas that actually seem possible. Check it out:

"4) Yoda’s first statement

Why: “The dark side clouds everything.” It seems too early in the film to be mentioning the dark side of the Force and how everything’s getting dark. Plus it seems rather un-wise of Yoda to be admitting his vulnerability to everyone including the Chancellor. In my opinion, things like this are usually discussed only within the Jedi Council. Either way, it’s too early in the film to mention something like that.

How: Replace the line with something like “Hmm, the future…always difficult to see it is.” Like this it’s more general, and gives less of a feeling that something’s up with the Force from the get-go. There’s plenty of time later to focus on that."

10) Protection and investigation

Why: The dialogue between Obi-Wan and Anakin when they’re talking about protecting the senator as opposed to investigating the matter could be done a little more smoothly. Anakin can still look disobedient, but it could be a little more cleaned up.

How: I think this is just a matter of cut and paste. Take the first line Obi-Wan says in reply to Padmé, “We’re here to protect you, senator. Not to start an investigation,” and place it just before Anakin says, “Why?” after leaving a little pause after the previous line. This way Anakin doesn’t look so goofy when he says, “We will find out who’s trying to kill you Padmé, I promise you,” and the whole conversation flows a little more smoothly.

11) Anakin confessing to Jar Jar

Why: When Anakin is talking to Jar Jar, he tells him that he’s been thinking about Padmé every day since they’ve parted, but here’s a question…who would tell this to Jar Jar?? And in that same conversation we have another example of ignoring kind words when Jar Jar tells Anakin that “Hesa bustin with happiness.”

How: After Jar Jar tells Anakin, “Mesa bustin with happiness seeing yousa again, Ani” have Anakin say, “I’m happy to see you too, Jar Jar. –pause– Padmé barely even recognized me.” He watches her walk away. “She’s forgotten me completely.” This should be a simple dub because Anakin is facing away from the camera and part of his dialogue is off-screen.

18) Anakin’s jump onto Zam’s speeder

Why: Anakin jumping from his speeder and falling hundreds of meters only to fall directly onto Zam’s speeder totally unhurt seems very unrealistic, even for a Jedi.

How: This can be changed by significantly decreasing the distance Anakin falls. Cut all the shots of him falling, just show him jumping out of his speeder, followed by the shot of him falling and landing on Zam’s speeder. He actually falls a good distance in that shot, and it’s more than enough."

----------
Anyway, if you have time, take a look.
