I'm wondering because I'm looking at TPM for Ith's edit and wondering what Jar Jar will sound like (if he's modeling his edit after yours)...

I'll still be bouncing my ideas off you all. I just thought that posting so many clips would probably spoil the whole surprise element of the new edit, plus rendering the clips to post is taking time away that could be better spent on finishing the movie ( its taking hell of a lot longer than i first thought). Everyones input and ideas have been invaluable for this edit and i am very grateful. I couldn't have done even half the stuff without you guys.
I'm glad we've helped! And I understand why you wouldn't post more clips...I just love clips!

I would suggest leaving the planet as a Generic planet somewhere out in space. This, to me, would effect the story of Star Wars the least and make the change more about visuals rather than about rewriting the story.

I think I'm with Dan on this one...but I also agree that it looks similar to Alderaan...not sure if that's really a problem, though...hmm

OK, first off...

Audio: excellent! Darth sounds amazing! the EQ sounds better over all...

New DS approach: HOLY COW! Just amazing! This should have been here a long time ago! I dig the planet, I dig the scale (yeah, maybe check on those SD), I dig the music!
Of course, a few "nitpicks": you might consider reducing the number of ties in that first shot of the DS. I was blown away by the entire shot, but I didn't know where to look at first...I think the DS should be the focus.

Music: the piece when Vader says "I find your lack of faith disturbing" is freakin' awesome! chilling!

Question: did you trim a few frames from the conference scene? some shots seem shorter...?

Pic of droids going down below: finally! no more pick blob!

Again, just amazing work! I keep watching this clip over and over!

Also, if this is one of your last clips to show all of us, obviously, I'm sad.
BUT don't be afraid to bounce ideas off of us...hopefully our nitpicking has helped and not hendered your progress!

Ah, well, I figured if we could look at this raw edited scene, we could come...to...some...kind...of...conclusi-...No, I just really love it when people post video clips!

I've been looking at all the Naboo footage from TPM...trying to come at it from a different angle (invasion and gungan battle taking place early in the film)....
Ith, any more detailed thoughts on that part of the film?
I've come up with a few ideas...but I'll massage them a bit more before I post them...

I plan on replying more to your post, but I thought I'd post this quote from InfoDroid from another thread (I hope that's OK, InfoDroid!)

"Back when I was still involved in this project, the plan was to dub Anakin from a later scene speaking Huttese and have the subtitle read "You have the eyes of an angel." or something to that effect. And because she doesn't understand Huttese, her response would be "What?" And he'd repeat in English, "An angel."

I felt that although it didn't make the scene perfect, it did take away a lot of the stilted feel of the dialogue and made Anakin look a little more charming, 10 years old or not. We then edited and rearranged the rest of the conversation to try to make it sound less halting and more natural. For instance:

Padme: "You're a slave?"

Anakin: "All my life... My mom and I were sold to Gardulla the Hutt, but she lost us betting on the podraces."

Padme: "How long have you been here?"

Anakin: "Since I was three...I think, and someday, I'm gonna fly away from this place."

It's not word-for-word, but it was something along those lines. We also changed the music to a muted and incomplete version of the AOTC love theme (by Musicman), which helped significantly to change the mood of the scene and gave it a bit more of a "this is destiny, this is important" feeling to their first meeting. That's about the best we could do with the material Lucas gave us to work with."

There's a scene in the first third when Gunray has captured Amidala and is trying to get her to sign the treaty on the way down a long flight of stairs. This can instead be used for him to tell her how he's enjoying the killing of the symbiants (the Gungans) and how that will slowly destroy the planet, and how he's about to go and personally kill some children. Around about here can be inserted the parts of the Gungan battle from the end of the film that show the Gungans getting thrashed.


This is a VERY interesting idea! I still enjoy most of the gungan battle anyway, so at least some of it will stay in...

This made me think about Jar Jars introduction.
There have been different ideas on how to handle that.
But once I read the above paragraph, I thought of this:

With this edit Quigon (could) now come in on jarjar being surrounded by battle droids. (and I guess the animals are still running around in the bg)
The gungan battle could be happening at the same time...jarjar just happens to get singled out by the droids...or something like that...

I'm sure there are holes to be poked...please go ahead! I'm OK with it!
This could prove difficult to do, but I just had to follow through on the pic!
If anything, this might lead to an even better idea.

Yeah, scrap the Jabba scene...it'll be fine in the deleted scenes...honestly if DVDs had been around longer, I bet Lucas would've done this instead.

Bike & ronto scene is fine out too...I'll agree on that one.

I'm keeping that scene because when Biggs is killed Luke now reacts (thanks to the radio dramas).
Cool! I've never heard the radio dramas before...sounds like fun!

Are you planning on using their dialogue significantly anywhere else in the film?

OK, I'm thinking waaay far ahead to ROTJ...any lines exchanged between Han forgiving Lando...or Lando asking forgiveness or something like that? Because you *could* have a little exchange with them over the intercom (while Luke is listening in his xwing)...wild thought...any comments?

Bring on the Super Star Destroyer!-...and the rest of the scene!

Well, here's another thought:
The only way I could see you cutting out the tail thing would be to have some sort of cut-a-way, right? maybe chewie?
Oooorrr....Maybe show Jabba in his ROTJ palace talking to Han? You could cut between the two...maybe?
If anything, I think you should replace the CGI Jabba voice with ROTJ Jabba's voice.
The CGI voice is way off. The voice bugs me more than the CGI.

the problem with a project like this is you can tend to get carried away with fixing stuff and its thanks to everyones help here that i can come back down to earth and see what is and isn't working.

I know exactly what that is like. I guess I assumed that's where you were coming from to begin with...so I've tried posting accordingly...hopefully it doesn't sound like I'm complaining. I just hope I'm giving imput that helps the project.
Again, I'm so grateful that someone is trying as much as you are, adywan. You're doing stuff to the movie I've wanted to see happen for years-...and then some!

YES! Alright, here we go...

Interior of the escape pod is now a uniform colour throughout the various shots and no longer changes from blue to brown
---an absolute must...very well done!

R2's arm now retracts after pressing the button to open the door to fix a minor continuity issue
---this is fun...never would have thought to do that

Enhanced escape pod blast off
---yep. love it!

New starfield & escape pod trajectory in the shot where the imperial officer says "hold your fire..."
---also good! It didn't really jump out at me...but that's probably good!

New stardestroyer & starfiled as 3P0 & R2 look out of the pod window. The stardestroyer now receeds more natural
---yeah, I can dig it!

Complete new effects shot of the escape pod heading towards Tatooine
---the only thing that looks a little funky are the suns. Maybe they can be put off screen just a bit more? Still love the shot though! I also like the pod catchin' on fire

Vaders chest plate now lights up
---yes yes!

Vaders eyes are now no longer red in any shot
---more yes yes! ......it also seems like you were able to clean up his voice a little more too...good job!

Enhanced effect shot of the stardestroyer as it wipes to the driods on Tatooine
---yup. 'nother good one!

New sky on Tatooine
---OK, for the most part: great! A couple of shots that stood out: "I've just about had enough of you" shot...clouds move too quickly.

---rearanged 3PO lines: It threw me off at first...but I think it works.

new background as R2 leaves 3PO
---I really want this one to work...but it doesn't-... right now. ...it would be great, because it makes 3PO's line "it's much too rocky" make since.

---eh...I certainly like the idea behind it...but the roto is a bit distracting

---I like it! It might be a little too sharp compared to the rest of the background though...
