ROTJ: Fan-O-Matic! 3 new clips!

You're right about Luke's reaction, but if you watch the scene closely, you'll see that Mark Hamill IS really angry when he says "why didn't you tell me?", but when they looped the scene, it was totally deflated. Also John Williams even did some "angry" music for that scene, but for some reason they didn't use it. Jedi is FULL of bad looping that hurt the performances and made them seem worse than they are. It would be great if the production audio could be cleaned up and used for some of those clunky bits, I'll take performance over perfect sound quality any day. (never happen)

Yeah, Luke looks pretty pissed....I love it when he says "A certain point of view?" He's seething... :)

But, yeah, the audio does NOT match his facial expressions. I have listened to the music that was to go underneath the scene...I can't decide if adding it back would really help the scene or not...

Octorox, I can't decide! :) I understand where you're coming from...it's just hard to imagin ROTJ without that scene...

I've always wanted to see the Luke/Obi conversation cut completely. It's pure exposition, and I think it's a little too convenient that Obi can pop up any minute and have a long talk, it cheapens his death. His appearances should be mysterious and brief. I think Dagobah should end after Yoda dies in the hut with his last words "there is another skywalker" the fact that you know who ten seconds later ruins the tension. Luke should discover that on his own and it should be revealed to the audience in his conversation with Leia.

Interesting points, Octorox. In the version I'll be posting soon there will be a gap between the yoda and obi scene...so that (IMHO) will help.

As far as cutting it because it is simply an exposition scene...I don't know. I mean, you're right, but it's also been apart of the trilogy for so long...and I remember being very interested in everything Obi was saying...

I'm also wondering if it was cut out completely, that would leave everyone wondering why obi wan doesn't show up at all during ROTJ? Not to mention explaining why he lied to Luke in ANH...

However, the part about Luke finding out on his own about Liea? That sounds very interesting...it might work...

ROTJ is the movie I want to see edited the most. When I was 7 or so it was new and it was badass....now, well, not so much.

Back in the Ranch days Commander Courage had a great vision, I think it went like this:

1. Open on Dagobah (implying Luke had been training with Yoda since the end of empire)

I like to think he is getting ready to leave (with his brand new black jedi outfit to take his part in the rescue) and he has to ask about Vader...maybe Yoda had avoided the question and that is why Luke insists he must know. You have to cut out a few lines but I think it can work. It does feel weird to start the movie so slow...im not sure I would even like it that way but in my imagination is sounds like it could work. It makes us believe Luke has come a long way and gives some sort of explanation how. I guess technically this and vader arriving on DSII could be flipped without messing up the story....anyway, I digress.

2. Vader arrives at DSII

3. Leia and Chewie arrive (paint out 3po and r2 and cut the musical)

4. luke and ob1 talk

5. emperor arrives at DS2

6. droids arrive at jabbas

7. luke arrives at jabbas

8. proceed as normal cutting out as much childish crap as possible.

Sorry...I had planned on replying to this message. The version I've done is a little different than above.

I want to show you guys the first 20 minutes of my version (it basically includes all of those scenes above) so I can get some feedback...a little problem though.

I have a video file I want to encode with divx (it's like 4 GB) but I don't seem to understand this whole encoding process. I follow the directions it tells me to (all the different passes and such)...one pass looks pretty decent but a little noisy, of course the second pass doesn't change the look of anything, the third pass (or muti pass) tends to shrink the file way too much...it looks too pixelated and it loses alot of detail and contrast...

Anyone care to help me understand? Or point me to a website that might help?

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time
Well, the reason I tried the ROTS clip was that someone (I forget who) suggested that it's not really necessary in ROTS...it's a nice image to leave the audience with and it's fun for us fans...but not really necessary. As Lucas might say: “We know where he ends up.”
It also brings up the question of how long it takes to build a death star. 20 years? then between ESB and ROTJ maybe 2 years? Why?

Erikstormtrooper:
Thanks for pointing that out. Yes, the clip would have to be reworked a bit...Tarkin erased and all of that...

AuggieBenDoggie:
No, we as the audience did NOT know a second death star was being built during ESB. A lot of people here on the boards thought that the second death star kind of came out of nowhere in ROTJ. A cheap trick if you will. A rehash. Anyway...that was where the idea came from...

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

OK, second video:
There has been talk (here and the StarKiller thread) about adding the Death Star in some form to ESB.

Here's how I see it:
IF it's added, it can't just simply be added to a background shot. There needs to be an "Oh no!" moment for the audience.
The DS should just be one more thing that makes this movie dreadful for our heroes...ya know?
AND (IMHO) you can't show something as dreadful as the DS (at the beginning of the movie) and then expect the audience to kind of forget about it until ROTJ.

Sooooo....with all of that in mind, check out this video clip:

The Death Star in ESB...?

Comments?

P.S. Check out the other video I posted a couple of pages ago.....

"would it be interesting to move this conversation to nearer the beginning of the film? it may help to explain exactly why vader is pursuing luke in the first place, and then why he so desperately wants to capture han and leia?"

That actually makes alot of sense, ben_danger. I have a feeling though that the idea will be shot down....

ESB Revisited thread huh? This am cozy!

OK, so I've had this video clip for a while-...this idea for a while.
I'm talking PT mixed in with OT here...so I know some of you won't like it at all.
I'm cool with it either way...I just thought it would be fun to throw in the movie....maybe.
Please hate it and bash it!

Adywan, This is a great gift you’ve given us fans! This, again, I feel has gone above and beyond what I ever expected!
Oh! And thanks for the credit! I like the idea that I contributed to this awesome edit!

It’s taken me a week to download this thing(slow and limited connection)…I've watched the movie, but there is no audio...
Would anyone care to help me? These are all of the files I've download to get this thing...

Am I missing the audio file? How do I link the video and audio together?
Thanks in advance!

Well, Adywan, this is just too exciting!
I haven’t had consistent internet access for a few months now, but I’ve always found a way to keep up on this project.

This idea has gone far beyond what I even *thought* I wanted from Lucas!

Can’t wait to get a hold of this edition!

I think what has made this thread so much fun is throwing out ideas and questions...learning more about a movie I love…having conversations with others and getting feedback on ideas. I have enjoyed the whole process (of course, YOU had the hard part).

I’m looking forward to ESB…I have a few ideas…but it’s ROTJ I’m really looking forward to discussing! I have quite a few ideas for that movie!

This new trailer is too cool! I love the big and little things you've added to the movie.

Sabers look great, soldier getting hit by lazer is excellent, the falcon in hyperspace is great fun, the R2 lights look flawless, the R2 falcon background is also flawless, the "asteroid field" is great, the deathstar battle is...well, I just about pissed my pants, and Chewy's medal is the perfect ending!

Prequel Trilogy - Sagafied (* unfinished project *)
Time
TheTome,
In regards to the first clip you posted: (opening of the movie til the landind of the ship)
Some great ideas in this edit! Some very brave ideas too. Some questionable ones as well...
I'll be brief (simply because I'm too lazy to type right now).

The opening space battle is alot of fun. I'm surprised how well it works. The rearranging of the dialogue alone is excellent.
I DO kind of miss the "well have you noticed the shield is still up?!" line. But that's just me...

I feel that the music ends too abruptly after the Jedi cut down the droids.

I believe the Dooku flip has got to go. If you can, I'd remove it.
The music during the duel is very nice.
I'm undicided about the editing of the duel itself...there's so many that I've seen so recently

Very clever editing out the Anakin/Obi/Palp sliding around the ship scene!

The "new" scene with "new" dialogue has the most issues. It is alot of fun. The dialogue between Ani and Obi you've put together works well, and is quite humorous, but, without lipsync, I just think people will be sucked out of the moment. IMHO. Again, it's still alot of fun.

I know, that's a short reply to all the hard work you've put into this edit...hopefully I can get around to rewatching it and commenting some more!
