STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Ady, I don't believe I've this has been mentioned yet:

In the introduction of Yoda scene there are one or two shots where you can see Frank Oz's head. Somewhere around the time he's eating Luke's food and messing around with R2. If you need me to I'll post screen caps...

You kidding me? I like it ! Can it be done?

He will join us or die my master...opps!

If someone can build and film the model why not?

Nothing is impossible just by various degrees more difficult.

Another experiment with eyelid addition.

BEFORE

Rebo 1

AFTER

Rebo 2

Nice job with the eye lids but I would cut this blue dude from the film entirely! :)

Oh! And I like the idea of trying to get the droids off the sail barge in a less comedic way...

I will also be trying my hand at making the Rebel briefing room look less like a plywood collection of left overs from the other movies.

I'd like to see your efforts in that area too.

Yes I would love to see some tests from both of you.

To me it looks to clean and perfect! Why Lucas? Why?!! :)

Really i didnt knew what to do with this area. :\

Maybe is wiser to add some color to several objects or change their brightness.

-Angel

I forgot to comment on this! I really like what you've done here, vaderios.

I just wish it didn't look so slick and clean, ya know? Like the rebels had to slap together what they had to make it work. I don't know if there's anything that you or Adywan can do...

Not as slick as vaderios (and maybe he can expand on the idea) but here my stab.

I thought it would be nice to stick some echo reflectors on the ceiling like in the Royal Albert Hall and have some tech guys on the tactical stations on cherry picker like chair (like the one Ackbar sits in during the battle) Note no medical droids in this scene :

Briefing

Hmm...interesting...I'm definantly on board with the no medical droids! ;)

Vaderios, I see what you're saying...and I agree and disagree at the same time...hmmm

I'd really like to see the rest of the rebels come closer to the forground in ROTJ. The group that goes to Endor are always somewhere else or simply in the background with no dialoge!

There are a couple of times when it would actually work to give them some throw away lines. Example: when Han says "Take the squad ahead. We'll meet..." the rebel nods and motions the squad onward. You can't see his mouth so this is the perfect time to have him say something like "Yes General! Let's move out men!"

Another idea I've had:

I'd like some perspective on this...maybe we can make something better...you'll have to forgive my terrible voice in the clip! :)

I have a Canon HV30 (1080p), it even has a 24p mode. What do you need shot?

it would basically be all the new models and set pieces i'm having to make to replace certain shots. i am shocked just how much the UK is getting ripped off with prices after following those links. The canon would be a godsend because i just love canon cameras ( i own a 350d digital SLR & the quality is unbelievable) but at the prices we're getting charged it could never be a possibility

Awesome work Ady! I would have never thought you would actually go out of the way and build models and set pieces and film new elements to composite into ESB:R I would have thought you would go the CGI rout instead like you did with the Tie intro in ANH:R, but building models and set pieces would be alot more realistic than CGI anyway.

Just curious, how are you going to accomplish the two ties colliding with each other. Are you going to actually going to crash 2 models into each other?

well for that sequence i have to build an entire new canyon to fly the camera through because the original background elements are just too bad to use. the ships i may be able to keep but if not i'll just film new elements using the TIE models separately and i can collide them easily in after effects. the hell part will be building the canyon due to the size it needs to be.

I'm also going to be building a new wampa head with horns, shoulders & arms to replace the original puppet. this way i can also replace the weird looking wampa shot as it lunges at luke in the cave. I'm starting work on that later in the week so as soon as that is finished i will post some photos.

I have also decided that if i can get the camera i'm going to be doing some behind the scenes vids showing the new models & how they were filmed. so you'll get to see the complete process on how certain shots were done from start to finish.

This is great! I love the idea for a behind-the-scenes vid...

And a wampa puppet? Sweeet...

And the worm clip is great! It does help to slow the worm down...

If it could be done I'd try dubbing Yoda's repeat of his first lesson to Luke while he is dying so instead of saying "Once you start down the Dark path etc..." He says the lines from ROTS "Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not" (it may be impossible to modulate and break up the line to get that near death performance but I'll give it a go).

Yoda is sensing that Luke's doubts are growing now that he is losing his teacher, Ben later reminds him not to underestimate Vader and the Emperor.

Luke got the dark path lesson in ESB he hasn't received that nugget of wisdom from Yoda yet and it would be a sensible parallel with Anakin's fear of losing his wife and Luke's fear of losing his sister being the pivots on which their anger and potential to do evil balance.

Woah...this could be a good idea...hmmm

Yes it's rough, it's meant to illustrate a concept not wow an audience so I'm fine with that.

It does demonstate that to get the scene to work Ben really needs to be indoors or at least near some rocks, his sitting down in thin air looks very wierd (I know he's a ghost so he doesn't need to sit down but sadly George/Sir Alec/Mark/Mr Marquand etc didn't think that through).

I will try to fiddle about with the film myself and put it onto Youtube and compare the various approaches suggested here (and mine will probably look as slick as yours, maybe not even as slick it will be almost my first attempt at this sort of thing).

Yeah, you're right about the sitting down of Obi-wan...unless we can keep him from sitting! ;)

I look forward to seeing your ideas, Bingowings...I also have a couple of ideas I haven't yet tried...

Anyone having trouble with seeing my vids? I think most were taken down...?

I don't think it's ridiculous to assume that two random droids coming to a gangster's palace with a message from someone who's a friend of a current prisoner would be commandeered and put to work. I don't have a problem with the lack of the message - the point of the message was to A) communicate to the audience that Luke is now a Jedi, and b) remind the audience that Solo is imprisoned. In our theoretical edit, both of these things have already been clearly communicated through Boussh's delivery of Chewie, where Jabba shows off Solo, and through Luke's conversation with dying Yoda. In this edit, the message is redundant, but we still need the droids there for the sail barge part.

Not exactly because sending the droids of as a gift deliberately puts the droids into position take away the message and the audience doesn't know why Luke sent them there and their capture will seem more of an accident than part of a plot on Luke's part.

Besides the message show's that Luke gave diplomacy a chance and used violence as the last remaining option (short of leaving Han where he was and letting Leia get herself killed or worse still captured and trained by the Emperor).

I'm not trying to promote myself but:

Star Wars: The Trilogy **PROJECT STALLED DUE TO HARD DRIVE FAILURE**

RETURN OF THE JEDI:
- NO "STAR WARS Episode VI"
- Entirely new opening crawl (necessitated by story changes)
- Entirely new opening logo
- Anamorphically-enhanced GOUT video
- New menus
- Radical re-edit of film

This will be the most drastically different. The edits I plan to make reflect the "ROTJ Fan-O-Matic" thread quite a bit ("SomethingStarWarsRelated," you will be credited for your ideas in my edit, even if I don't distribute it widely), such as:

- The film will either open on Tatooine with Chewbacca being brought in, then Vader arriving at DSII, or vice-versa
- I'm toying with the idea that Leia is already there, and Han has long been unfrozen and is in the dungeon already, but this may not happen
- Luke is already on Dagobah, Yoda dies, Luke/R2 leave
- R2 and 3PO go to deliver the message, but get put to use as slave labor instead
- Luke comes to the palace at night, is captured (possible Rancor removal, not sure yet)
- BOBA FETT WILL NOT BE IN MY ROTJ AT ALL
- Sarlacc fight will be edited for silliness reduction
- Emperor arrives at DSII
- Rebel briefing, Luke may just not be present at all
- HEAVY editing on Endor to reduce Ewok silliness
- The rest of the movie will basically play out as before, but there will be no mention of Luke/Leia as siblings, and general silliness/cheesiness will be removed
- Hopefully a new/restructured ending to bring the trilogy to a more satisfying end

Well, that's very nice...thank you, ChainsawAsh. The reason I've been putting together these ideas is so that someone will use them! :)

What works better is:

- Start off with Vader visiting the Death Star
- Boushh delivers Chewie (paint out Threepio, since he's not there yet)
- Luke on Dagobah, Yoda dies
- Leia rescues Han, is captured (again, paint out Threepio)
- Han talks with Chewie
- Luke lands on Tatooine, after getting out of X-Wing says "I can't do it R2" then hears Obi-Wan from inside the hut, goes inside and has conversation with Obi-Wan (could also start inside hut)
- Droids go to Jabba's palace, get captured ("message" is never delivered)
- Luke arrives at the palace, Rancor, Sarlacc Pit
- Emperor arrives on Death Star
- Luke arrives at the meeting (greeting part goes first), then briefing commences, ending with a nervous pause after "General Solo, is your srike team assembled?"

The rest of the movie would pretty much play out without more drastic structuring changes, but obviously with toned-down kiddie B.S.

This is the way to go-...although I might make a few a changes...

- Start off with Vader visiting the Death Star
- Boushh delivers Chewie (paint out Threepio, since he's not there yet)

* I believe the above two scenes *could* be flipped. I can't decide...I figured it was worth mentioning...

*Again, I don't think the hut will work...but I won't say it's impossible with Adywan ;)

- Emperor arrives on Death Star

*Obi's last line "...but they could be made to serve the emperor" works well with *this* scene being next.

*The next day on Tatooine...

- Droids go to Jabba's palace, get captured ("message" is never delivered)
- Luke arrives at the palace, Rancor, Sarlacc Pit
- Luke arrives at the meeting (greeting part goes first), then briefing commences, ending with a nervous pause after "General Solo, is your srike team assembled?"

It would be great to see old Ben back on Tatooine where the story began (from a certain point of view) one more time.

Shame it couldn't be back at Ben's old hermitage.

surely that could work? if someone were to move him to tatooine, like somethingstarwarsrelated did, they could make a matt of bens homestead based on the one we see in ANH? the x wing could even land there?

The difficulty is moving the actor's around the set in a realistic fashion.

Ben might be doable (he is a ghost so the audiance expects a small degree of missmatch, but to do look right you'd have to get a real actor in a real set and mix in Mark's performance in a convincing way.

More hybrid fan film/fan edit action, not impossible but really hard work to pull off.

This is a really rough knock up but it can be done is the background is in sync with the foreground image which is hard enough to do with one frame but even harder in a long sequence.

Ben's Ghost

That's why I've suggested outside...at night...it would be much easier to make it look convincing. The lighting would basically be the same. If Adywan could change out the Tatooine skies in ANH:R and make it look seemless...well, I bet he could pull off the Tatooine night skies...

Yeah. I still feel that the scope of some of these edits is beyond an OT revisited projects. The revisited projects have generally been about fixing and adding, not moving around and taking away. I guess if Ady did a Purist DVD9 for this edit I wouldn't mind the radical changes however I couldn't consider it the "definitive edition of ROTJ" like I do with ANH because if you change too much it ceases to become ROTJ anymore. small tweaks along the way like the ADM prequel edits I wouldn't mind but I wouldn't want to see the movie completely gutted and rearranged. I'd prefer another editor tackle that or even Ady on a separate project.

Well, just be aware that Adywan will be changing *some* things...for example: the ending will be different...he's said before that he's going to *attempt* to kill Lando in the falcon. And of course, he's also said that the PT will be getting a complete make over...

I know my version is pretty out there...*I* don't want all of the changes I've done in Adywan's edit. :)

(The Fan-O-Matic thread is even more radical, changing Ben's scene to take place on Tatooine, though I think that's technically infeasible given the footage available)

I'm actually not sure about that yet... ;)

It's Obi-wan's transparency issue isn't it? Well, I've looked at that scene pretty closely and believe it or not Obi-wan is only transparent in a handful of shots. I *think* it could actually be worked around.

It might even be possible to have Obi-wan simply standing through the entire conversation. You could have Obi-wan kind of fade/flicker in and out using a still image of his body while using his talking head. Does that make sense? I've have to try and make a rough version of this...

Now of course even if all of that worked out it still may not look right...having to do so much roto-ing and all of that...
