Pretty sure it did, as it lead into the blurb promising the ESB adaptation would begin next issue. The next issue turned out to be a fill in story instead though.

Marvel did have to put Han back on Jabba's bad side before the ESB adaptation, (they had settled things with him in the comics) and showed the bounty hunter run in Han refers to in the movie.

I do recall some images of Chewie back then that were airbrushed to a ridiculous degree.

Yes. Hasbro made a figure of her as part of the McQuarrie line.
I think Ridley's look is more inspired by early McQuarrie art of Luke, when Luke was still a girl.
It was puzzles and coloring books put out too early that spoiled the Ewoks for me back in '83. ;)

There are some variables to consider.
The Gungans fared poorly against battle droids. Their shield tech was good against a barrage, but the droids could slowly walk right through it? That's one heck of a design flaw.
They didn't actually win, as the plug was pulled when the control ship blew.
The Ewoks were faring poorly against the Imperials, until Chewie commandeered a scout walker. That turned the tide.
Lucky those AT AT's were too far away to help.
It's not Sebulba, but the Dug who complained about Anakin's driving in AOTC.
An Ewok or two wearing a trooper helmet like a trophy might have helped?
