Wish we had Alamo around here, they continue to sound awesome.

And yes, Yoda was supposed to have a pet snake. Wonder if he ever had a name?

Now that I think about it, I remember Luke moving it away from the stew pot.

One more Alamo deal. They have a pretty extensive menu and serve during the film. Each seat has a small table. For Star Wars, they had a themed menu and this menu card was on each table. Kept mine.

Wookiees are vegans? I guess they forgot that scene in Jedi where Chewie takes the Ewok bait. The less said about the makeup crew putting eyes and teeth on what appears to be a roadkill deer butt the better. 😉

It would be an interesting experiment for someone who has never seen the OT to watch TFA.

It would most likely ruin his Star Wars experience. I would feel guilty simply if I did not try to convince a friend to watch OT first, let alone purposely do some “interesting experiments”.

Someone is bound to drag their non fan boyfriend/girlfriend or relative to see it. You’d have to be living in a cave not to be slightly familiar with the basics of Star Wars. There’s hardly anyone who doesn’t know of Darth Vader or what a stormtrooper is.

And lest we forget, the original film dropped us into the middle of a conflict we knew little about.

Incidentally, for those who saw it in 3D, what did you think of the 3D? It seems to me that conversions have come a long way, and that this made for a really enjoyable 3D experience.

Having said that, I’m also looking forward to watching it in 2D this coming weekend.

There were issues I had at my theater. The little floor lights at the end of each aisle were like cell phones flaring into my peripheral vision outside the edges of the glasses. (I thought it was some jerk checking their phone as I was trying to watch the movie and not look away.) Annoying as hell. I suppose there are safety concerns preventing them from dimming those things during the movie.

The downside of a slightly older theater converted to stadium seating is people’s heads can cast shadows on the screen when they get up. The push button recliners were a new experience to me, and pretty nice. Took a while to find the button though. 😉

I got to the theater about 30 minutes early. As usual with Alamo Drafthouse, the pre-film adds and such are tailored to the feature. In this case it was a bunch of old Kenner toy adds from the late 70s/early 80s. Crazy what a cultural phenomenon it’s been for so long. One was for the toy Yoda Is Your Father has as his avatar. I never did understand that snake part.

Here it is.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Other than one or two instances of what I would describe as ‘trendy’ humor (none of which are bad, annoying, or immature… They just sort of feel out of place in star wars where everything is timeless. But they work and are in no way bad) from fin, it’s amazing.

Those 70’s hairdos in Star Wars have aged pretty well. I was disappointed we didn’t see any First Order guys rocking with sideburns. 😉

And yes, this old Wook liked it. It was much better than Cats. 😉

Thursday was just a mess of stress and things going wrong almost up until I left for the theater. (That some idiots elsewhere spoiled Han’s death the night before didn’t help any.) I will be much more relaxed next time around. And I want to see it in 70mm Imax eventually. Who knows if that will even be an option in a few more years?

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

The next time you wince or groan over certain character names in the prequels, check out these character names from the 1925 silent version of The Wizard of Oz. 😉

Lady Vishuss

Prince Kynd

Prime Minister Kruel

Ambassador Wikked

BTW, this movie is seriously messed up, and bears little resemblance to the book. (I also suspect drugs were involved.) It must have been mercifully forgotten about when MGM decided to make the 1939 film we all know and love.

Don’t love it. But I really, really, really like it. I won’t go into detail, because everything I could say has been said before and better.

I think a lot of questions that came up with this movie will be answered in the next one. Rey’s vision for example. The first thing that happens when she touches the lightsaber is, she finds herself in the Cloud City corridor where Luke and Vader duel when Luke reenters the building after being thrown out of the window. It isn’t her past or her future, or is it? Is she Lukes offspring?
