It may sound unbeleivable but after what has happened so far it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. This is another reason I really want nothing to do with the SE's, because it endorses all the changes he has made and makes it seem OK for him to make more. It really would not surprise me if in 20 years the OT's have been changed so much that they are barely recognisable; I am not saying it will go that way, but it could, easily...
There is no way Tarkin could be Jar Jar's alias, it doesn't make sense. Leia may have been able to stand up to hours under that mind probe, but if Tarkin had put on that suit and just repeated "Meesa Jar Jar! Meesa Jar Jar" for half an hour, she would have caved...
But wouldn't you find it a bit strange if, for example, Luke had a pet labrador? It wouldn't really fit in... humans are the only characters in the movies who look like anything we would ever see on earth, all the other races and characters are completely different... it just isn't very believable that it could really happen, that's all. I mean, do you seriously imagine that if you travelled millions of light years away to a far distant galaxy you could meet a race of beings that look -exactly- like we do who are called Humans? It doesn't bother me because there are plenty of thins in the Star Wars universe that aren't supposed to reflect reality; and the fact is, it works... but it doesn't really make logical sense.
This is my point: If the SE's had only included one or two very minor changes, such as a lightsaber being touched up or editing out a reflection of a camera or something, I would not be here protesting, I would buy the set as it was. I'm not pedantic or anal retentive, I'm not going to kick up a stink about such minor changes, and personally I have never said that the OT's shouls be on DVD for "historical purposes" or for archives; I want them so I can see the movies as I think they should be, and not as GL has decided they should be now. I know other people present different arguements but mine has always been that. We are not talking about minor changes when it comes to th SE's, we are talking about going back after the films have been released and changing them drastically, changing peoples lines, changing scenes, and yes, changing the story. I acknowledge that some people deny that the story has been changed, but when you add characters, add scenes from places not previously seen and changes peoples lines, that changes the story. Sure, some of the eye candy is cool, but as I have pointed out before, I have seen cool eye candy in PC games aswell; that doesn't mean I want them spliced into a movie. They just don't belong in SW IMO: But again, as I have said all along, if people want to buy th SE's then they should have that choice, and I should be able to have mine. Fair enough?
Pretty much. Of course it would be a bit silly if they all spoke some other language and we had subtitles thorugh the whole movie. But I do find it strange, in a way, when they refer to themselves as "humans". I mean, humans come from Earth, right? But yeah, it's just an amusing observation.
A possible explanation for both those lines: Obvoiusly at some point Obi Wan moves to live on Tatooine to watch over Luke, who resides with Owen and Beru. Now, is it possible that, at first, Obi Wan and Owen get together every now and then and discuss the "old days", and as time goes on their discussions devolve into bitter arguements; Owen blames Anakins "death"on Obiwan, comes to think of him as reckless, comes to think that he lured Anakin away with exotic tales of the larger universe etc. And eventually it gets so bad they just stop talking to each other. This would explain those two lines ( that they are not based on what actually happened, but just on Owens beliefs and his opinion of Obi Wan), and also explain why Owen doesn't want Luke associating with him.
Thee is a much more simple explanation for the "There is another" line; maybe Obi Wan simply doesn't consider Leia to have the potential the Luke does, but Yoda beleives differently, or is able to sense the force in Leia more adeptly than Obi Wan does.
The blaster thing: That could be explained away by saying that the blasters have different settings, and they were on the lowest... I imagine that in "reality", if you fired them at a capacity that was capable of destroying other craft (which would also be shielded), the entire platform would be obliterated...
Oh, and I just thought of another "plot hole": Isn't it an incredible coincindence that "A long time ago in a galaxy far,far away" there just happened to be a race who looked just like us, spoke English... and called themselves "humans"? :-)
"Wouldn't that make the scene with Han and Luke dressed up as Troopers bollox...
I mean, Soon as Solo opens his mouth to the Officer in the Detention block, he's gonna realise that something is up...Well realise sooner than he already does that is...... "
Oh, don't worry about THAT... I'm sure GL can seamlessly edit that scene out to tie in with his new vision. Or he could just redub Luke and Han's voices with Jango's throughout the entire trilogy so then he could say, "Well, actually, Luke and Han sounded just like Jango all along..."
Another point: He would also have to redub Boba Fett's voice in ESB to sound like Jango as well...
I agree with Ric there. I think maybe they met when Luke was younger, say five or so years ago, maybe when his uncle was there and he was whisked away before they could talk. BTW I feel Uncle Owen definitely knows all about Obi Wan, which is why he wants to keep Luke away from him. Maybe I am just stating the obvious there...
"thats the way it was meant to be. listen to the commentaries on TPM."
Don't own the DVD (nor do I desire to). I saw TPM once in the cinema, that was enough times for me. Even if it was deliberate it still seemed very unnatural. After all the "real" queen didn't talk like that when she resumed her postition (as far as I can remember). But I would be interested to hear what the explanation was, I assume it is something to do with royal tradition or protocol?
As far as Jimbo goes... actually I thought he was getting better... oh well, rules is rules I guess.
This is getting a little weak in that you are saying, "Because we don't like the SE changes versus other changes in movies, that should be the deciding factor."
I don't think anyone said that. If you are going to split hairs like I said, you could say that no DVD release is exactly the same as the cinema version because the ratio is differet, or the picture quality is different when it is on film etc. etc. Like I said, if you are talking about minor changes like removing a reflection, I can't imagine anyone is going to mind. It would be a bit silly to release two DVD's, one called "Original version" and aone called "Version with glass reflection removed in one scene" wouldn't it? Comparing that with the changes in Star Wars is like comparing chalk and cheese.
I started reading LOTR on the plane last time I went interstate. But the book was in a bag with some water which leaked and the book was ruined. So I only read the first chapter...
I remember reading The Hobbit when I was about ten. After I finished it I started reading LOTR but got bored after the first few chapters, so I guess what you say may be accurate.
"Vader wanted to use Chewbacca as bait. Yavin I believe was a gas planet and would not be effected by the Death Star."
I guess I can accept that. Makes sense. However I still don't think it would have taken so long for the Death Star to orbit the planet, after all it managed to "fly" there and arrive only a few hours after the Millenium Falcon, which is supposed to be the "fastest ship in the fleet"... but it isn't important.
I think you are splitting hairs a bit there. If the SE'a had only involved very minor changes like that I for one wouldn't have any problem. I would imagine most people here feel the same way...
TPM had potential. The thing that really ruined it for me was that it seemed to be aimed at children far too much. I literally cringed every time Jar Jar opened his mouth. A Teletubby would have been more convincing as an alien as far as I'm concerned. C3PO had some terrible lines, I know he has always been a bit silly but his lines just weren't funny in TPM... in AOTC at least he had a few genuinly amusing moments. Don't know who played Padme's double, but she was so wooden. Her voice mainatained a single octave throughout the entire film. Also I don't know about anyone else but I thought it was very obvious that she wasn't really the Queen from the beginning. The scen that annoyed me most of all though is where Annakin destroys the robot controller thingie though; I mean come on, "Hey, what does this button do? Oh look I'm inside the hanger! Whoops, I just defeated an incredibly powerful, huge army that was in control of the entire planet without even realising it! Hooray!"... give me a break. The only part of TPM I really enjoyed was the development of Palpatines character, lurking there in the background waiting for his opportunity; it's such fun that we all know something that all the other characters are so blind to.
