Plot holes in the SW saga
Time
As far as the Bespin thing goes, he "saw a city in the clouds", so he knew what the place looked like; I guess he could look it up in his computer or something. Or maybe his Jedi instinct just tells him which way to go?

A few little things (not really plot holes but anyway): Why does Vader stop Boba Fett from shooting Chewbacca in ESB? Doesn't make much sense to me, surely a man like him would place no value on the life of a Wookie.

In ROTJ, we see the Rebels placing explosives in the shield generator. Then they run about five metres away and hide behind some bushes. There is no way they could have escaped uninjured from the truly massive explosion that results, IMHO...

Why does the Death Star bother to orbit the planet that is in the way of Yavin? (Or is the planet called Yavin, can't recall) Why not just blow both planets away? Would have been much quicker... Also that display the Rebels had showing the Death Star approaching: What exactly is the use for this display when there are no Death Stars around? :-)

Luke could use the Force a bit more in ROTJ, for example to push/pull the stormtroopers off their speeder bikes...

That's all I can think of for now. Not important things but just wanted to see what others think...

Star Wars DVDs selling fast
Time
Well, personally, I can't say that I have "researched" every DVD or video I have ever bought. If I see something I like in a shop and it is a movie I want, I might just pick it up off the shelf, read the blurb on the back, and buy it. Star Wars is different for me, but many people may just see it and think"Hey, Star Wars is out on DVD, I might just get it..." Or they may buy it as a gift...

Okay, so maybe he shouldn't call them "Star Wars" or "Star Wars SE". He can call them "Star Wars 2004 edition" or "Star Wars pre ultimate edition" or "Star Wars version 2.4A" or whatever... but it should be made clear that they are not the original movies. You say they are the same, but they aren't. That's a bit like saying, for example, that the old version of "Pscho" and the new one are the same. Or saying that the original "Blade Runner" and the Directors cut are the same. I understand that they only released the directors cut on DVD, but they clearly labelled it as such; they didn't try to hide it And the differences between those two versions are much more subtle.

Lucas is supposedly proud of the differences he's made so why isn't he promoting them? If anything he should have large print on the box advertising the fact that these aren't the crappy OT's but the vastly superior new editions...

Changes in 2004 DVDs

Personally I just don't understand the point of changing things like the Emperor's hologram retrospectively, We all know what he looks like now so what's the point? The faded hologram in the original movie makes him more mysterious; sure it might have looked better if they had the technology at the time, but they didn't so who cares? Remember also that they were in an asteroid belt so there was interference (yes, I know Vader oreders them to move out so they can send a clear transmission) but they are still a long way from Palpatine; also Palpatine is the only one who uses the hologram in that way, with a giant image of his head, whereas everyone else uses it for their entire body; so it makes sense that there would be less detail. And are they also going to fix up all the other holograms used throughout the movie or leave them the same? Because if they do the Emperor's holo will stick out like a sore thumb from the others. One more thing, if that image the Starkiller posted is really what it is going to look like... is it just me, or does that really not look much like the Emperor (as he appears in ROTJ)? But maybe that is not the final version...

It is definitely misleading. If it is the SE, it shouls say SE on the box. And Jimbo, even if it was the original versions it wouldn't say that on the box. The movie wasn't called "Star Wars original version", it was called Star Wars. The SE's had "Special Edition" in the title; that's what they were called. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't put on the box what is actually inside, unless they have something to hide.

I've already given a possible reason for that in my last post. Also I gave a multitude of reasons why the stormtroopers aren't clones, if you want us to accept that they are then at least make an attempt to explain these things. You can't just keep saying "They are clones" and expect anyone to accept it just because you say so.

I can understand why people are getting annoyed at you though Jimbo. We all know you like the SE'a but you shouldn't expect everyone else to just because you do. The fact is that GL should release the OT and there is no reason not to. The arguement that the SE's are what he originally wanted Star Wars to be doesn't make sense because he mad so many changes that didn't have anything to do with budget or technology as he claims. These have all been said before but I will note some of them again: The Han verses Greedo scene; Luke's scream; Various line changes; Boba Fett's appearance in ANH; The shuttle scene at Bespin. I'm sure there are many more. And much of the CGI that was added was just eye candy that he wouldn't have put in originally even if he had been able to; For example, the celebration on Coruscant, that wouldn't have made sense in the original version because no one would have known what it was supposed to be. The fact is the GL has changed the movies into what he wants them to be now. He has created a new trilogy, not "improved" the old ones. You think they are better, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, and you should be able to buy them if you wat. I prefer the OT, that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it, and I should be able to buy it if I want, just like every other fan of the OT. And those who want to buy both versions should be able to do so, if they are willing to hand over the cash. You still seem to be arguing against this and I don't understand why. That's why some people get frustrated with you sometimes.

We already discussed that poll. It clearly establishes that the vast majority of people wat BOTH VERSIONS on DVD. So GL is NOT doing what most people want, and most people do NOT agree with you. MOST PEOPLE WANT BOTH VERSIONS WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT EVERYONE ON THIS SITE -EXCEPT- YOU, IS CAMPAIGNING FOR. THis has been said over and over again and you just don't get it.

BOYCOTT (the 2004 OT SE DVD release)
Time
If you truly don't believe that they could cover the cost of releasing the OT on DVD, you are kidding yourself. Most fans of StarWars would buy both editions; there are 50,000 peopl who have signed the petition asking for the OT, they would buy them. Look at LOTR, they realeased at least two different versions of that and all of them sold like hot cakes. They would make a bundle out of it. GL has never said anything about not making the OT on DVD because of the cost; he knows it would make millions. The decision was due to his his bizzarre artistic objections which don't make any sense...

That comment about bumping heads just proves how far off the rails GL has gone. Does he really expect us to believe that he deliberately asked one of the actors to bump their heads on a door because he was planning to make the "original clone source" bump his own head in a prequel film that he was planning to make thirty years later???? How stupid does he think we are??!

It's all very well for GL to say -now- that all the stormtroopers in the other movies are clones, because it suits him to say that now and it ties in nicely with AOTC. But that doesn't mean that was what he was thinking when he first made Star Wars. In Star wars the stormtroopers are different heights and builds and have different voices, they don't all speak with New Zealand accents like the Clones do, as I pointed out before most of the clones would have been killed in the clone wars and there would be a big lapse in soldier numbers while they waited for more to be created; logically they would start recruiting civilians. In AOTC the officers are clones, in Star Wars they are all different people. When Luke and Han diguise themselves as Stormtroopers this would not work if the stormtroopers were clones as they would stand out due to their different heights and their voices; all clones are supposed to be exactly the same. It just doesn't make any sense for the Stormtroopers in the OT to be clones. Maybe some of them could be clones, fair enough, but not all of them...

The ironic thing is that the only way you could prove the SE was more popular than the original cut was to release both versions. If the SE had sold more I guess some of us would have to eat our words. But the fact is that nobody who wants to buy a retail version of Star Wars on DVD has any choice, GL made the choice for the; so I for one will go on beleiving that the original cut would have been more popular, and there is no way anyone can prove differently...

How do Star Wars people go to the bathroom?
Time
If you want a serious explanation, how about this: All the beings in the Star Wars universe eat little pills/energy bars (like the one Yoda tastes in ESB) that provide all that is necessaryto their bodies but produces no waste. Except on very rare special occasions when they eat normal food which is later regurgitated (all the times when you see people eating in the movies are "special occasions").

Plot holes in the SW saga
Time
I recall reading a novel in which Luke comes across a stormtrooper on a long forgotten planet and makes friends with him (can't remember the name... it was one with a child who could control machines using the force). Anyway from memory he was a normal man who joined the imperial forces and was brainwashed, he wasn't a clone... I would imagine that after the "Clone wars" most of the clones created would have been killed; remember it takes many years to create the clones. So the Empire would have to start recruiting normal people as storm troopers out of necessity. Otherwise all the officers in the other movies would be clones too. Also all the clones have NZ accents, but none of the storm troopers in the other movies do... OK so I'm being pedantic now...

As for those plot holes mentioned at the beginning:

Why is it that C-3PO is made on Tatooine but doesn't know where he is in ANH?
Simple: C3PO is an idiot. :-)
And how come Uncle Owen doesnt recognize C-3PO or R2-D2 when the Jawas sell them to him?
Couple of possibilities here: Maybe he did recognise them, but didn't want to say anything as Luke would have started asking awkward questions? Or maybe he just assumed logically that they were totally different droids, remember there could be thousands that look like them. In either case, he obviously realises later when Luke mentions Obi Wan, so decides to get the memories erased. ( I just noticed you mentioned about droids looking alike, so maybe the first theory is better)
Why doesnt Vader look for Obi-wan and his son on Tatooine or on the Lar's farm before/or during ANH?
I don't think he knows about Luke or Leia at that point. As for ObiWan, maybe he thinks he is dead? ("Surely he must be dead by now")I have often wondered if Vader realises he has sent his troops to murder his own step brother...

Now, for Jimbos plot holes:

One the actress who plays Beru in Attack of the Clones has brown eyes the actress who plays were in A New Hope has blue eyes.
Who cares? Maybe she is wearing contact lenses. Maybe she is a humanoid species whos eyes change color as they get older. Maybe her eyes were replaced with artificial ones. Or maybe the people who cast her didn't think anyone would notice...
In A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, the Clone Wars cartoons, and Attack of the Clones the clones are shown as very efficient warriors but in Return of the Jedi they can't kill more then a few ewoks.
See above re the clone thing... another explanation may be that the stormtroopers were out of practice as they never had to fight any real battles any more... they weren't expecting any resistance... but actually I do agree to a point, especially since they are supposed to be Palpatines "best troops". One thing that irks me is when Chewbacca commandeers that walker. I mean, if you were in a tank and someone climbed on top of it, would you just open the hatch and let them in? Sheesh.
Why would the Empire build another Death Star after how easily the last was destroyed?
Luke summed that one up nicely: "YOur overconfidence is you weakness". The Emperor believed he was prepared this time; he had forseen the destruction of the rebels, he had fed them misinformation, and he was to arrogant to believe anyone could defeat him.
Padme tells a clone after she falls out of the ship "we got to get to that hanger" how did she know about the hanger?
I'd have to watch that bit again to be sure, but I imagine someone mentioned that Dooku was headed for his ship before she fell out. Could be wrong though.
In the Clone Wars cartoons Mace wipes out droids without his lightsaber he couldn't fight this well in Attack of the Clones
Meh... it's a cartoon. Who cares (obviously I don't).
In The Phantom Menace when Darth Maul appears in front of them why doesn't Padme order her men to fire. Even he could not block that many shots. Instead the Jedi handle it resulting in Qui-Gons death.
I have only watched that "film" once so can't comment. If you want to talk about plot problems in that film how about: A child "accidently" defeating an entire blockade single handedly; Or a group of supposedly incredibly wise Jedi relying on an idiot who speaks and acts like a two year old to save a planet; Or the most obvious mistake of all, that this "film" was ever made and released at all...
In The Phantom Menace when the Jedi coucil arrives on Naboo a bald black man comes out who is suppose to be Mace Windu but is clearly not Samual L Jackson.
Dunno; See above.
