What we all have to never forget is that if it wasn't for Lucas with all his flaws and errors included, none of this would matter.

That makes me think of a hypothetical situation: if we had never had the SEs or the PT or anything else that has tarnished our memories, and only had awesome versions of the OOT...would Star Wars fanediting even exist? If someone made their own SE, would they be viewed as Lucas is now, tampering with things that could've been left alone? (even if it was just fixing continuity errors or blemishes, and nothing else)

I appreciate that you also brought out the fact that Lucas is letting people mess with his movies. They even encouraged people to put stuff on YouTube before! That is pretty great and shouldn't be forgotten among all the nonsense. ;)

That is something to think about...some of the changes are trying to fix what the SE's have tarnished or have brought to the forefront...good observation and insight.

Thanks for the positive feedback. i was hoping I didnt get to badly ripped... :-), but I did get a box of band-aids for just such an occasion.

That is an interesting question... mmm.... probably not actually... People usually don't take action until there's a gross injustice or something first. Good question and you're right, it has lead to good things but in a round about way (Lucas's newer direction I mean, not your posting gurgle... lol). I was ready with a first aid kit myself... ^^ I didn't expect to escape unscathed and it's what happens when you're drawing the fire away from the cruisers... ;)

Points noted and filed. Still...:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Kurtz

and

http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/marcialucas.html

Tip of the ice berg too but I digress... Perhaps I was generalizing concerning Lucas overall in my opinion of the man, but that's all it is, an opinion. Yes, he's done good things and does have good ideas even now but implementation and people challenging him to make it better, does not exist anymore.

Prior to all the money, power, and such Lucas was hungry for it. He had drive and grand vision he wanted to share but people forget that it's not just him that made Star Wars what it was/is... (see above at two major contributors). Over the years it's slipped and we all know this to be true. Otherwise why be in a discussion boards that's major purpose is to edit this and recognize that the past versions of these films are better???

If my comments are seemingly to bash Lucas, it's probably because they are. I don't deny that... lol I don't like what Star Wars has become and I AM very much excited to help Ady because it's a vision I agree with more and feel like I can have some say in it's overall redemption with Revisited.

Isn't that why you all post here? (other than to eat popcorn. ;) lol) I like to assume that people post here so they can offer up suggestions and debate about what should and should not be in certain cuts. Albeit passionately in most cases... Overall, can you truly say that's what Lucas allows in his playground if you worked at LFL? I'd say no. And no I have not worked at LFL but I do know people who have... lots of them... so at least I can believe that my train of thought is accurate with the intel I have acquired to support my opinion (and yes, it's only my opinion, feel free to engage me in PMs for disagreements as this has seemed to have touched some nerves here. I don't mind at all... ^^).

Facts, facts, and more facts eh? lol... I was wrong concerning the divorce timing and all, not afraid to admit that. However towards that stretch of time in producing ESB was the beginning of the end for Lucas's marriage. ESB was used to finance Skywalker Ranch though so that was accurate. Regardless, I was never a SW production fact person nor have I really cared all too much... I'm an EU specialist and even that has been tainted too... Regardless I just happen to know all kinds of other intel and stuff so forgive if I mixed up that one little "fact" now and then... However, please... =D feel free to engage in a discussion with me if you want to talk about this, it's fun for me and I learned something. =D But in a PM, I think having it here takes away from concentrating on ESB:R and that's not fair.

Well a later workprint has been given to  Rogue Leader & the 2nd unit and to 005 today but its still very rough. I don't want anyone pestering these people for any information about the workprint because they won't tell you anything as i trust them 100% i won't be sending out a finished beta version though to anyone. If i miss a few little things then so be it.

And why not? After all, George Lucas missed a few little things ...

That sounds more like a challenge than anything else. ;)

Does sound like a challenge... lol I guess I'll engage then. ^^

Here's the thing... does Lucas care about this anymore? No...

Did he even care all too much back then? Not really because ESB was created to essentially fund Skywalker Ranch and recoup from his divorce. Lucas actually hates what Gary Kurtz did to ESB and considers ESB a failure to this day. So Lucas missing a few things... a sense of plot/story, pacing, timing, detail, continuity and most importantly recognition to people who help make Star Wars the legend it is etc... So as much as everyone say Lucas is a visionary and what not he very much has flaws as well that time has brought to light. Cos over the decades he has surrounded himself with yes-men who just does what he says unchallenged or otherwise they're totally fired. That's not a creative collaborative effort, it's one's man's psychosis and ego run rampant.

You do have a point that people should preview ESB Revisited and offer input before finalization. However, unfortunately, it has to be limited due to operational security. If the things in this cut were to leak unfounded rumors could spread as well as misinformation concerning what will be in the final cut and surprises for the audience would be spoiled completely. Ady has entrusted a rough cut to select people but with any operation of this magnitude this information is entrusted to those who have offered the most in the way of help and mutual trust. So in that sense there's a balance...

I know it's easy for me to say since I have seen the rough cut. However, had I not seen it, I would also recognize the need to limit such showings cos it will turn into a furball with Ady receiving messages every second concerning every lil detail (kinda like these message boards already... lol). Look at this message board, it exceeds 730 pages and small mole hill type things have a tendency to erupt into crazy volcanoes debates.

The thing we all have to remember is that unlike Lucas, Ady does care deeply, enough to learn these skills from scratch to do the impossible concerning ANH:R and now ESB:R (which WILL surpass ANH, just trust me on that one...). He has also listened very politely to ALL of us. If people disagree then this entire website is dedicated to fan edits so feel free to make your own. Ady does not intend to and will not run the OT into the ground with unfounded eccentricity and ego. He just wants to make something great, that much better (again... just trust me on that one) for all of us and himself.

Most importantly, he's not doing this for any profit what so ever. So patience... for this man is NOT being paid for any of this and is doing something that has restored a lot of people's faith in the Star Wars Universe and that is something we all do care deeply about.

Lastly those of us who have seen the cut have submitted details and suggestions as well. All of which, Ady has responded to with reason and calm discussion (I'm pretty sure I haven't been fired for disagreeing =P). Once upon a time I was someone who would said Lucas can do no wrong with unquestionable faith... and now I'm in the middle of something LFL probably doesn't smile upon because Ady has just shown LFL that someone in his apartment with a comp can show up freaking ILM and GL himself!

I've fought more fan politics than anyone should in their entire lives and as much as this is only a movie it's now the people we're doing this for. There's no ego, no profit, no hidden agendas... it's just making something amazing for the love of doing so. There's tons more I wanna say but I'm gonna stop now. I think Ady appreciates everyone's passion and exicment for this project and it's well deserved. Have faith everyone, the impossible is about to be done once again. ^^ May the Force be with us all.

But they build another Death Star instead?  That crazy Emperor ... >:)

Through the Tarkin doctrine, a second Death Star's cost is justified, "rule by fear and terror..." Had the second DS become complete it would of spelled doom for countless systems in open rebellion against the Empire. TIE Defenders, as awesome a starfighter it is, would not instill the same fear and terror a Death Star would. Nor would any ship have an effect like the appearance of a Death Star in orbit would: immediate surrender of planetary systems or death.

You mean I don't already have the title? What coronation did I participate in? Oh wait that was a hair cut followed by 6 hours of drinking....

Anyway! Challenge accepted, *slams fists together* However unlike the bulk of nerds I am throughly confident in my taijitsu and lightsaber combat abilities. ^^ Hoping by the prequels Revisited there will be need to change some lightsaber combat scenes to the level of those awesome TOR Bioware trailers... XD

It should be noted that Ady has used the latest Bioware trailer as a marker for the level of intensity he wants for Return of the Jedi Revisit's ground and space battle. I will quote cos it's awesome: "I think ROTJ battles, both space and ground, should be a fight to the death. As it stands now it doesn't look like its supposed to be the final fight. OT Revisited will be going out with a bang :)"

I dunno about you guys but I know I'm excited. XD

TIE's don't have hyperdrives, and it doesn't make sense to have them appear from behind the Star Destroyers.

He's back again? Yep, guess so.;) There was work to be procrastinated, so I come here...

Says who? All this based on one throw away line from Obi-Wan in ANH (you know, the guy everybody considers a liar thanks to the next movie, and senile thanks to the Prequels).

The same Expanded Universe that says TIE Fighters are unshielded, cheaply mass produced ships with no life support systems and no hyperdrives also say that  Vader's TIE  (which is smaller) has all those features.

Of course the original scripts argue otherwise (Leigh Brackett's ESB script for example has Vader drifting in space for a long time before his craft is picked up... though I suppose you could argue his hyperdrive, if he had one, was damaged or something... though a non-functioning hyperdrive in the Star Wars universe doesn't seem to be much of a hindrance, considering the Falcon's Trek from the asteroid field to Bespin).

The fact that the TIE Fighters in ANH were white/gray compared to the blue ones in the rest of the movies, made me think they were a different kind of model anyway.

If we thought TIE Fighters were just simple spaceships (only slightly smaller than the hyperdrive equipped X-Wings) that were launched from Star Destroyer "carriers" (or from a "base" like the Death Star) that would be one thing, but that need not be the case (again, unless we take certain interpretations from the EU).

The only benefit to having "pan 'n' scan" for me would be that the image is bigger (though you lose the sides of it). If your screen is sufficient size though, that's not a big loss. Until some day (in the far flung future) when I can afford a widescreen TV (and have a place to put it) I'm going to stick with letterbox.

He's correct, most TIEs in this era don't have hyperdrive. More advanced model such as the TIE Avenger (which Vader's TIE Advanced fighter is the prototype for) and the TIE Defender which saw a limited run due to cost of production.

Obi Wan in ANH implied that TIE's don't have hyperdrive "No, it's a short range fighter". So that confirms it more rather than makes it untrue regardless of EU validation or not. Also, the shot itself is not of the Death Squadron coming out of hyperspace but of their approach to Hoth at this point do TIE units could of been deployed by other ISDs. I was actually gonna suggest having TIE bombers fly passed as Vader has not issued an order for the surface attack with ground troops yet because it's just prior to Ozzel's epic fail is revealed. TIE Bomber bombardment would be in order as the smaller fighter craft could reach the base and such before orbital bombardment from ISDs could come with in range... Then again this would bring into question why are there no TIE Bombers firing at the first Medium transport as it escapes from Hoth.

Ady is right, we will not be giving up information concerning changes that haven't been released. Ady has been very generous as is concerning the number of clips and footage already out there. However, I will say this... I'm already proclaiming that this version will be my definitive version of ESB. Color correction alone is worth it but you will be totally blown away as much as ANH:R originally did if not more so. No mistake there... speaking of which, no movie is perfect but if anything, I will bet on Ady's attention to detail anyday of the week especially over what's released from LFL. XD

Not to bring bad luck, but I have an important question for Ady - do you have any sort of backup? External drive, friends PC etc. Something that stores copies of the TESB:R project, whether if an accident happens with your PC, or you just mess something during editing?

As for the release date... oh, well - May 2011 sound better than December, anyway! Like a true Star Wars premier. And something to cheer me up while everyone is going to see (yet another) horrible Bay-Transformers movie...

After the rollercoaster of the 'Empire:R' thread, I wonder if it's asteroids next during 'Jedi:R'....

What volcanoes in Sith? All I recall is overly choreographic lightsaber combat/acrobatics and a lot of green screen.  =P

Art through Adversity... The og ANH was plagued with issues and it was awesome. If anything this is an even greater undertaking cos this is only a handful of people doing the impossible. Art through Adywan! XD

And some of the battle's Adywan has had to face:
-getting ripped off by the post office on numerous ocassions.
-health issues
-computer issues (power supply, monitor)
-getting ripped off by Gateway
-the challenge of getting good wampa fur
-hot weather affecting the plaster
-car crash
-unplanned apartment "remodelling"
-project helpers going AWOL
-migranes and temporary blindness(!)

Hahaha! Thank you for that!

That list rocks :D

Okay here is a VERY rough edit of what could be in the scene. Included is some audio,  then while the probot exits to the left of the screen we can see the smoking ruins of Echo Station 38 (not included in my rough edit) in the upper left.

Be gentle with your comments on my edit, its my first....awww. Finally not an edit virgin...I feel so used.

I hope this link works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QvnEfs-7p4

It's actually not a bad idea... then again wouldn't station 38 check in prior to being blasted by a probe droid? Also the comm telemetry is from the probe droid's transmission of information in it's coded robot speak. It's not a recording of audible sound from the probe and it's immediate surroundings.

With all the good detail that Ady and Ming provide us from the pics of props we can assume that the new shots will include close ups as well?

Considering the fact that distant objects does not require detail..

Also a known tip is to make the suits already used and old rather brand new. The aging process makes them more interesting rright?

Well when we do finally get to shoot our scenes, all I know is that I'm suppose to save ALL material for Ady to play with. =D Knowing him I know he'll choose what shots will work without Lucas-like eccentricities.

As for details... we all know Ady is rather detailed oriented and anything further detailing for the gear is so that we can have a seamless integration into the action regardless of being distant or not. At least that's what I think... ^^

How are the kitchen and work station coming along?

Well the kitchen is finished and so is most of the redecoration. Unfortunately the workstation is going to take a little longer. The piece that was thrown away was one of the main sections so i might have to start from scratch because matching it up would be a pain and i have lost my original plans for it. Oh well. :(

The costume props for the 2nd unit Hoth troopers is coming along nicely. All i have left to do is the vests, boots and the box compartments for the backpacks.

and here is a sneak peek at the Wampa :)

WAMPA

Yay gear!

Speaking of gear I figured out the tinting issue of the goggles:

Hoth goggles

Before and after... 8D my crazy idea worked! ;)

I think I know what I'm gonna do to dirty up the Hoth jacket now... another interesting improvisation... lol.

I've always though that the Falcon's flight trajectory was preset. After all, the technicians messed up its hyper-drive, maybe it was programmed to fly towards the Executor? Yes, it does have the plot-hole that they went to get Luke first, but still..

Also, I'm not sure how it is explained in the EU, but can a ship's tractor beam hold on to another ship, if the latter engages its hyper-drive engine? Maybe Lando and Chewie didn't care about the tractor beams (and thus flying towards the Executor), as long as they got the hyper-drive working.

Ah, missed the EU question! Tractor beams in SW have never been highly defined in a way that it's commonly used all to often. This tells me that they are relatively weak in that respect and I imagine multiple beams should be used in conjunction to target a maneuverable ship like the Falcon. The times I've run across tractor beam references in the EU are when they are used to guide in ship, tow a ship, or when they've are either targeting a slow moving ship OR the ship has already been mostly disabled.

In the original Zahn Trilogy, Grand Admiral Thrawn uses cloaked asteroids being deployed by tractor beams around Coruscant to literally blockade the planet by using invisible rocks preventing traffic from going into and out of it's dual over-lapping shields. Sensors indicated that the tractor beams were used over 200 times but only about dozen cloaked asteroids were actually deployed. This means that the tractor beams in SW like shields are invisible and so if the Imp tech on the Executor were trying to get get a lock we couldn't see it.  Thrawn also almost capture Luke in his X-wing in space using a tractor beam but Luke managed to launched and unpropelled proton torpedo that the tractor beam locked onto instead of his fighter as he thrashed his sublight engines by reversing thrust and then making a jump to lightspeed but soon broke down (because of said thrashing of engines but he did escape!)

In TIE Fighter the game, the most advance of Imperial craft, the TIE Defender employs a tractor beam to immobilize opposing vessels. However, enemy ships with enough momentum and speed (and pilots with enough cunning) can break the lock against the Defender's tractor beam and this must be constantly done in a line of sight. A ship that is caught in a tractor lock can not jump to hyperspace as it would be the equivalent of being in a gravity well.

In that escape from Bespin there were four TIEs on the Falcon's tail boxing the ship in and leading it toward the Executor. However, the pilots skills in conjunction with the Falcon speed would make it incredibly hard to get a lock on.

Happy Star Wars Day! May the Forth be with us! =D

Not bad... it's when you don't have to go to Wookieepedia 10 times a day and you just know insanity that will scare even the hardest of the the hardcore SW fan. Case in point, fierfek translated in Huttese actually means "poison". =D

Relating that to ESB, I'm gonna get Republic Commando back from my friend and somehow snag the audio files. Cos the voice over done for "Boss" aka RC-1138 was Temura Morrison. I know Boba's voice is gonna change in ESB:R but if it's a mod of Temura's voice over then it's kinda cool to have more dialog reference material. Some phrases like "fierfek" or "let's rearrange some architecture" are just fun. XD

Judging by the reaction from the head of the project (Ady) it seems to me the last thing you said was completely dismissive of any sense of error on your behalf. In fact the omission there would further propagate the general mood that you have over stepped certain boundaries concerning criticism along with a sense of being over bearing with request to said head of project.

It's fine to be critical but demanding to know further what plans someone has along with making baseless judgement calls before such plans has even been implement is liable for certain levels of resentment. Along with request for footage for the main purpose of making further criticisms as you've seem to have put it which is... ummm? yeah... As for the troopers, it has been explained a few times over the past few months so i guess you don't bother to read the thread before you pop in to ask for yet more stills/clips and then come out with crap like you've just said.

This is just one post where i mentioned what is being shot with the 2nd unit:

Although filming has been pushed back due to everything that has happened in the past few months

As one of the Hoth soliders, we have no intention of stealing scenes or adding weirdness... lol... As far as I know we'll be fleeing in terror a lot and possibly dying. =D
