Another thing, which video source did you use for most of the movie?
Another thing, which video source did you use for most of the movie?
I was going through the restoration (Jurassic Park [rules 1.0] BD).
And Its a pretty NEAT effort! Wonderful, Great!
I had never expected the Video to be this stunning looking, with so much detail. Of course proper HD releases will have better detail and clarity. But this rivals and edges past the DVD with a slight advantage in my opinion, based on overall look! Plus The LD DTS audio is so good! I have downloaded the Cinema DTS Audio, and the LD one I think sounds a bit better than that! This is really solid effort, and its going to look great in my Sony Trinitron 21 inch TV(It already looks good on my HD TFT monitor). I am currently downscaling it to a DVD9 with two-pass encoding via ConvertXtoDVD (the best video to DVD conversion software yet!). Can't wait to watch it. Hats off, Kudos and whatever other praise-words are out there!
Thanks man for doing this for all of us!
I know The Lost World:Jurassic Park Laserdisc Project is going to be equally great! Bring it on!
P.S: I've also sent you a more detailed PM! Check it.

Thanks for your help; it will be interesting to do comparisons, and discover where the problem is!
I considered the MUSE JP, but:
- also if I have a MUSE laserdisc player, I have not a MUSE decoder
- I have a simple low definition PAL/NTSC capture card, so I can't capture the MUSE high definition video
- I'm aware that is possible to see MUSE video as low definition NTSC (and capture it, too) but I don't think it will be a lot better than a standard PAL/NTSC laserdisc
If someone with a MUSE laserdisc player, a MUSE decoder, a MUSE Jurassic Park laserdisc and an high definition capture card would like to do this, he/she's welcome! (^^o)
Actually yes! BTW what was the resolution of a MUSE HD Laserdisc? Was it 1920*1080 p? If its from the same master then it will look a lot better in HD MUSE LD, maybe?

You could combine the width and height from the different sources and create short clips for those scenes, after you've finished the project. Just as extras. So we could see what the full picture looks like!
It's an idea... maybe when I (if I) will release the "Making of Jurassic Park [ruLes]"... but first I'd like to release "The lost world: Jurassic Park [ruLes]"!
You've lowered the bitrate, but that's going to cost the picture quality won't it?
Is the picture quality deteriorated slightly?
'Cause already laserdisc has low resolution, will reducing the bitrate help.
Consider that 8Mbps is enough for very high quality, if you have 1280x720 video... I think to leave out PCM-to-AC3 soundtracks, and retain only the DTS english and the three PCM soundtracks (english, italian, french). In this case, the bitrate will be around 16/17Mbps, more than enough for very high quality video!
Why don't you keep the track separate, within the package, so that the individual user can mux them. This way video quality won't have to be compromised?
Because not everyone is capable to correctly mux audio/video tracks...
Very interested in that Making of JP Rules documentary!
Great! The Lost World Jurassic Park Laserdisc project next? Wonderful!
That's good bitrate!
That's True!

Ok did you compare the UK pal LD with the Italian Pal LD, which one has more picture, which one is cropped, or are they the same?
Italian version is clearer and so I decided to use this (those) for the main part of the JP [ruLes]; cropping is the same for the whole movie, except for the scenes where there are subtitles, when one version has more picture on the left but less on the right and vice versa... I could always try to combine those scene to obtain some more vertical lines of resolution, but I don't think it will change a lot the project, as those scenes account for a total of less than two minutes...
I'm waiting to receive the french laserdisc soundtrack from ilovewaterslides, and meanwhile I'm reconverting video with a lower bitrate to accomodate the french soundtrack into a BD-25.
But before this, the video was ready, so I muxed it with the italian audio, all at 23.976fps, and I watched it... it's really good, better than what I've imagined, with no "plastification" due to the denoise filter... the only bad thing is that some edge halos (present on the original captures) are found on few scenes... I've tried to cancel the halos, but it's impossible without corrupting the whole image, so I decided to leave the video "as is", as the notable halos are visibles on really few scenes.

Video for BD version is ready (20mbps); audio tracks are ready; only subtitles should be prepared (sync, and italian correction must be done).
Hope to do everything this night, or at least tomorrow.
The dinosaurs are coming back...

It's amusing to look at the JP LD in comparison to later releases, because at the time it came out, Video Watchog's Tim Lucas accused Universal of "zoomboxing" the film, cropping picture on all four sides. But in reality, the LD actually had the most OPEN framing!
Can't wait to see this. I remember seeing (and hearing) a home theater demo of JP at a home theater specialist store, and being absolutely blown away.
Yes, amusing indeed! What source did Tim Lucas compare it to anyway? Eagerly awaiting another update from ThaiPanther.
