Comparing the Sword in the Stone Amazon WEB-DL to my digitized VHS, there’s a lot of the typical oversaturation, but in addition I found that the blue/cyan part of the spectrum had been brightened. This resulted in the once-murky forest becoming very bright and unnatural:

TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)

There are the slight problems which would remain, namely the interpretation that the Resistance is blowing up the planet out of revenge, and that Chewie was responsible for the destruction of the Republic by not immediately blowing the charges before the weapon fired. So we would ideally include the Ackbar scene or some version of the weapon preparing to fire again. We would also need to split the aerial battle again to smooth over the scene transition.

Would the following work?

  • Detonate the charges
  • “The oscillator has been damaged but is still functional” - just like in the original, except the last words are heard over Poe’s radio.
  • “looks like our friends got in”
  • Forest battle part 1
  • Attack run (sans “prepare to fire”)
  • Forest battle part 2

And Hal’s gone to so much trouble to get that line replacement 😛

Welcome to the site, and thank you for the review!

When you say that the beginning of The Last Jedi is fine without the XXXX scene, do you mean that the information that the XXXX is clearly established (avoiding spoilers if possible)? That would be a relief, since that’s the only reason the scene went in.

lads - no discussion of TLJ scenes anywhere but the ‘TLJ Spoiler’ thread - and the ‘TLJ Fan Edit Ideas; with Spoilers’ thread - thank you.

The Force Awakens: Starlight (V1.1 Released!)

I don’t know how I’d improve on the lightsaber battle. I had some ideas the other night about how Rey might appear to Kylo Ren near the end. The image in my mind was that Rey could take on a more menacing appearance as a result of channeling what is pretty clearly the Dark Side, and Ren is so taken aback by this that he cedes ground to her in surprise and fear. But it’s not a priority for this edit, since I think it was done fairly competently in the original version.

Darth Vader seems to think that it’s worthwhile to calculate the destinations along the Falcon’s last-known trajectory, so that implies that there aren’t a lot of twists and turns in most routes (unless they’re well mapped). The one in TFA looks rather twisty, which tells me that there should be multiple legs of the journey.

I know that making several jumps to evade pursuers happened quite a bit in the EU novels. There is no mention of this in the movies of course, but even if there were multiple jumps on a single trip one would assume that they would have been ‘edited out’ for time and efficiency. There is also the matter of Hyperspace trade routes, which are definitely a thing in the Prequels. I imagine that these would be single-jump trips that are deemed very safe and widely used, implying that there are less-safe and little-used routes. That’s what I imagine this one is, necessitating a great deal of care and dropping back at every turn to scan for potential obstacles.

I guess it depends on how Hyperspace works, and if you can change direction without falling back to sublight speed. I imagine that Luke got to the Jedi sanctuary by going from planet to planet and studying the age of any ruins, searching for clues, and so forth. Anyone who followed this path would have to fall back to real space any time they encountered a planet and calculate the next jump even if they knew the ultimate destination, since there would be a planetary mass directly in the way of this route. Any deviation from this precise path and they might fly right through a star, or bounce too close to a supernova and that would end their trip real quick wouldn’t it? 😉

I’ll probably never have enough material to implement the change anyway.

Even when I first saw the movie, I thought that the journey to Luke should have been longer. After all, the map shows a lot of twists and turns, so I imagine there would be some obstacles and pit stops on the way to that remote island. With that in mind, here’s a very rough idea of how this could be implemented:

There’s not nearly enough footage for this to be feasible yet, but perhaps by the time this trilogy is over I can revisit the idea 😉
