Nice work dude! There’s some really interesting choices and arrangements here. Really like what you did with TFA scenes. Actually making me think about rearranging my own edit again.

How long did this take?

I started the week after the RoS bluray dropped (I had looked at the other movies prior but didn’t dig in until I had them all). I would say 2 or 3 weeks of actual editing over the course of 3 months. I had to take breaks, both to step back and re-think certain choices but also because I was going so gung-ho early on that I started giving myself mild carpal tunnel!

So glad you liked it! It was a lot of fun and I really can’t wait to see what other people do with the trilogy. There’s definitely potential for a coherent story there, the same as the prequels. Pretty sure I’ve seen some of your videos on Reddit - love how collaborative you are. Keep up the amazing work!

Thanks, Dude, Sorry I didn’t reply before. I didn’t get a notification that you replied.

That’s pretty good going. Gung-ho is always a great buzz at the start but it’s knowing when to quit that’s the real art. Always good to come back with a fresh eye.

Yeah, I don’t think TROS and be fixed by myself alone and it’s been awesome meeting so many amazingly talented people in this forum. Makes a change for all the arrogant bitchiness on Reddit. I’ll let you know when I do my next test screening…

It might need some added color correction/grain to fit in better, but I think I’m ready to send this clip in!

This works really Nice! Is it worth adding a few frames of the ships lights flashing on and off to indicate overall failure and to give the under belly a bit more detail animation on the docking bay?

So basically Disney fan edited their own footage.

TRoS already felt like a mediocre fan edit of a better movie. I can already see the feedback threads in my head…

“Hey, it’s a good first step u/JJAbrams, but there’s a lot of unfinished stuff here. I know you cut the scene where Finn tells Rey he’s force-sensitive, but you forgot to get rid of the subplot about him trying to tell Rey something. You should cut that before going any further.”

“Getting rid of the first 20 minutes just doesn’t work either. The new opening with Kylo immediately on Mustafar is super jarring. Especially since you cut the stuff with Hux and Pryde on the surface, and Palpatine’s message to the galaxy.”

“That crawl is really clunky. In the main saga, an opening crawl really only has one word that’s capitalized, which is meant to be the most important part of the movie (like DEATH STAR) in ANH. But here you’ve capitalized like five different things, and some of them aren’t even proper nouns. Why is “REVENGE” capitalized? I know you wanted to get right to the action, but revealing Palpatine’s return in the opening crawl? I’m afraid that doesn’t work. Especially since you cut out the part where we see how he survived in the first place, and just used his line from RotS instead. I’m looking forward to a V2, I think most of these problems can be ironed out.”

“Cutting the subplot about Lando’s daughter just makes him look like a creep at the end.”

Accurate!

Hey folks, not sure if someone brought this up.
https://youtu.be/ECnectUdeOo?t=122

Here, the narrator brings up a very interesting point:
When Rey fights those Red Guards/Sith Troopers after giving her saber to Kylo, they show the same action TWICE.

Like, she kills 6 guards, then we cut to Ben killing some more Knights of Ren, and then she kills those same 6 guards again, simply shot from various different angles, as if they were complete different set of guards.

Which, once you see it, holy shit, you can’t UNsee it.

Was this already talked about/did someone already fix this?

As if I couldn’t facepalm this movie anymore. Haha! Great video. Robothead brought up the guards in another video but it wasn’t as well constructed as this. I’ve now gotta re-edit that scene AGAIN!!! Thanks. 😉

Are you talking about the round lighting panel in the room behind the falcon cockpit? In any case, I took another look and made a small adjustment anyway, because anytime I look at a shot I want to make a change!

No, it’s actually on Poes hair. It’s a large brush clone just above Poes right eye. Could be on a separate layer? I’ll send you a screenshot if it helps?

I would gladly learn VFX stuff and modify the lip-syncing of the characters to redub the planet’s name as Korriban. The shot of the Sith statues with the orange ambience just speaks KOTOR.

Korriban is widely known to those it concerns, though, so it wouldn’t function as a secret base. All the more reason to stay close to the official blue grade to differentiate it from Korriban. It also really suits Palpatine. I do like the “grey” recolor though. Something along those lines might be good.

I’ve only seen the orange recolor, has gray been done yet? I can see grey mixed with green from the machine like someone else suggested to imply the Nightsister magic

I’ve redone the gray LUT (it’s a bit less red), here is how it looks on Exegol: https://vimeo.com/435562056
password: fanedit

Both red and grey work so much better than the original. It seems to bring out so much depth and more detail. Nice job.

Just hopping in here to ask about the stormtrooper saying “Ghouls!” at 19:02 in workprint 2 - is that staying? I honestly think it should be removed. Not only is it an awkward line, but when I first saw it in theatres I thought he was saying “Cool!” Anyone else with me on this one?

100% agree and I thought the same about “cool”. I thought that was a bad line and then heard Ghouls which was even worse!

It doesn’t need a line. I just cut to the head drop orchestral stab just after the Troopers look at each other.

lol, yeah. What nonsense. Makes me embarrassed for any SW stuff I see on YouTube or anything like that.

If they do, great. But at this point there’s not much to do. And even if they did, it wouldn’t obviously change anything we’d do beforehand.

It’s been so disappointing to see so many YouTubers covering this trash! Especially those that bitch about the mainstream media. They’re doing exactly what they’ve accused the media of by reporting BS on every channel. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Work in progress shot!

I’m having a lot of trouble with the chroma key on the Star Destroyer (because the free program I use doesn’t have chroma key.) Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

I could render out my background plate (with moving waterfalls and clouds) and have someone else comp in the destroyer?

I can give it a try if you like? What program are you using?

I spent a few hours re-sorting the LEGO Star Wars voiceover lines by character instead of level. This should make relevant lines easier to find: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1x9jVm0p8GydqtH1Vvl0SHtfbuIfkUzJV?usp=sharing

Wow! This must’ve taken a lot of time. If anyone is still looking for Leia to say “come home” there’s the clips you’ve been looking for.

Here’s what I’ve got so far:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pREsyomXeYU&feature=youtu.be

“He’s Alive, Rey:”

  • He means nothing to me”
  • “I sense she’s west”
  • “The girl I’ve heard so much about”
  • “The pull to the light”
  • “I will tear that information from their mind”
  • “He gave the order”
  • “You can’t hide, Rey.

Really nice work. I know how time consuming this type of thing is. I tjink you pulled it off well.

Sure, if there’s some way to convey the peoples of the galaxy are under a oppresive FO regime and have this being their primary motivation to join the battle at Exegol, instead of just being cowardly/lazy until Lardo charms them out of it. Maybe you could use some shots of FO Destroyers over planets for your Palpatine broadcast montage.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking. I originally had shots of other planets but they just stood out as recycled footage, then I designed the Coruscant and kylo scenes but now I’m thinking of mixing both ideas and have the destroyers appear in each sky scene to highlight the treat and change the original footage more. 🤔

I did wonder. I was thinking of adding star destroyers arriving at each planet destination before the battle starts to add to the reason why the galaxy got involved but I couldn’t think of a reason why they would do that unless they were xyston class destroyers.

In my headcanon I just assumed the First Order had occupied and laid siege to all those worlds in the aftermath of TLJ, paying off what Rey stated in that movie: “The First Order will control all the major systems within weeks”. Perhaps this detail could be included in a redone opening crawl.

I’ve just filmed a tutorial crawl video including my new layout. Should be edited in a few days. So, Do you think that Star Destroyers orbiting each planets atmospheres would be a good set up before the final battle?
