team negative1 - star wars 1977 - 35mm theatrical version (Released)

Probably.

I’m actually not sure all this publicity around the Team Negative1 and Harmy releases is a good thing. I posted on a major torrent site a version, back in the pre-GOUT days, which had the video from EditDroid’s LD rip with the reconstructed pre-ANH roll, and the mono mix from that 1985 ITV rip, and it was just a flash in the pan which I’m sure went nowhere, and I feel pretty safe because of that, but these people are getting actual media attention with projects much better than mine could have hoped to be, I fear for what the Rat might do in the future.

Color matching and prediction: color correction tool v1.3 released!

Easy enough to build filter chains over selected portions of a video in Avisynth. I have to do that sometimes with Detective Conan when reconstructing full length episodes from re-cut HD reruns, and patching in DVD source for the remainder. Or when mixing Animax airings with Nittele airings, something I do decidedly more often 😉

You can always use the Blu-rays to paint out the subs.

Yeah, hence my “despecialization” comment. Not sure that I could come up with good results working in the opposite direction, to try to make the BD footage look like 35…

Part of me wonders if there’s 35s out there of the Greedo scene without hardsubs. </random>

The JSC doesn’t have the Greedo subs. Obviously, that was made for home video, and it’s a different situation, but I suppose that there’s a very slim chance that there might be a print out there that doesn’t have them. I doubt it though.

nod. I think most WS laserdiscs prolly had any Greedo subtitles in the letterbox. Of course, 272i isn’t a very good solution for patching 1080p 😉 (but that said, if I were to go through with my plan to, after acquiring the necessary sources, do my own despecialization I wouldn’t have to worry about it).

Perhaps there was a language or two into which subtitling was not preferred, and they dubbed or overdubbed Greedo instead - just a thought 😉.

I think I’ve heard some of the DragonTeam people speak highly of him, so yeah.

(I’m usually considered a mediocre encoder, but encode and time for DragonTeam because I can have a better raw than SOFCJ, plus chapters and timed captions, before anyone else gets up most weeks. I have a few different handles around the 'net.)

Huh, I thought GOUT was better than that. My friend said the 192 kbps audio sounded dreadful, so I synched up the 2.0 mix from Harmy’s release instead and he said major improvement.

(I don’t know if it’s worth releasing at this precise moment in time, re-encode of this? 1280x544, 2.4 GB, and moderately degrained for compressibility, and because that’s how my friend and I prefer our film scans. Because I’m really thinking about trying to do my own despecialization, though I’ll need the much later-to-come scan of the 97SE Team -1’s been talking about first. 😉)

uloz.to makes sense for Harmy because he’s Czech, and I believe it’s a Czech filesharing site.

Personally?

I don’t think the usual routine is that big a deal. Even if I didn’t have an account on myinternalorgan, I’d just wait like everyone else. The way I see it is using that tracker isn’t entirely about keeping things low-key - it’s almost as much, I suspect, about giving first dibs to the OT longtimers, many of whom have had a hand in other restorations already, and if that’s what the uploaders want to do, that’s fine by me. I do not myself upload torrents there, nor will I, because I prefer to release on public trackers.

I just happen to have been involved in a couple ANH projects myself over the years, and the Team -1 scans are useful to the final completion of the biggest one I started over a decade ago.
