I’m less concerned about perfect theatrical accuracy of the subs - rough accuracy and softsubs is plenty adequate for my purposes.
Of course, I think due to software issues when I was working on the XP77 Mono disc a decade or so ago, before GOUT was a thing, I lost the subs completely.
I trust Williarob more than the nebulous “Team Negative1”. He was more upfront about things in general, I think.
Sure. I’d buy 'em if I could - even though I have no way to play them because to date I have refused to spend a penny on BluRay anything.
There is no “I can” with these three movies, because everyone involved has spent the last 20 years trying to bury them. That’s why piracy happens. But let’s not kid ourselves - “ethical” piracy, so much as one can define such a thing, is piracy. (I’m preaching to the choir, I know.)
I can only hope that what we (I’ve been involved in this kind of matter for over a decade now myself) have been doing will result in the RIGHT thing happening, which is something similar to what we’re aiming for being released, not by fans, but by Fox and/or the Rat.
Well, some of us have codes of morality that don’t exactly jive with the law. But I’m not gonna kid myself and try to justify what I do as legitimate - I don’t think anyone here does, though.
Technically, even Despecialized is not a fan edit - that would be reserved for something like Adywan’s versions that actually alter things, rather than simply rolling them back. (And it’s well known that one of his footage sources is the same source underlying the TN1 releases.)
And I don’t think it matters what the law is in the Czech Republic when it comes to OT - the site is hosted and maintained in the United States, and any theoretical Czech license holder can’t approve the use of material outside of the Czech Republic (unless they also hold the license for wherever else it is released).
Well, technically (and someone else mentioned it) every 35mm print of ANH belongs to Fox, so…
I suspect someone got a C&D because word about the Silver Screen Edition got around too fast and it was traced back to this site.

Might be a good jumping-off point for Harmy-style reconstructions.
(Perhaps ideally, it could be in the form of the means to rebuild it out of the BD M2TS files, that way no Lucasfilm material changes hands. </DAFT>)

The use of blurring is something a friend pointed out to me because he didn’t like his subs looking “too digital”. Came in handy here. 😉
When everything is all collected, scanned, tweaked, twerked, worked and released, it’s gonna be a lot of resources no one expected to be in the hands of mere mortals like us.

I think TN1 has a rescan of the ANH LPP done on this equipment, not sure if they’re using it for anything?

Still… This is certainly a lot more than anyone could have hoped for.
(Now on to knock on wood and hope for 97 scans to go along with the OTVs, because I’m on a mission lol)
About the first half of Rock the Dragon could be redone using Levels footage.
It would require a bit of hacking - I use Avisynth/Avspmod for all my editing which isn’t exactly a good tool for the job, and of course I don’t have the means to recreate the “WordArt” ep title cards. (Gimping out the text is another matter; if you’ve seen my encodes on nyaa, I’ve had little to no trouble doing that with the Funimation cards.)
The DTS and DD tracks are the same. Missing frames were filled with black.
I guess my first step, for my attempt to run some automated cleanup (as I did with TN1’s releases) is to try to find these padding frames so I can remove them =p, since GOUT-compatibility doesn’t matter to me. But I guess my initial calculations were wrong, because I figured I’d see a cigarette burn and some padding around 22 min. in, and I didn’t spot either - then again, it takes forever to seek around a video like this (just the nature of the material).
By the reference to Tosche Station I think the OTHER Biggs scene was intended.
I’ve lost a lot to drive crashes. I had a set of rips of the English dub of Pretty Cure - good audio, too - that just can’t be found anymore. HDTV rips of Tenkai Knights in Japanese. Episodes of classic Doraemon. Almost lost my work subbing one of the Doraemon movies, but I had that backed up offsite. I’ve started to get very paranoid since then. 😕

I think rather than Handbrake, - if the bulk of the movie is in one .m2ts file, just run that through mkvmerge. If you’re gonna re-encode, re-encode the big file, not the AVCHD - because re-encoding a re-encode is absolutely going to look worse.
I take a middle-of-the-road approach and use light processing, but nowhere near the levels I’ve seen out of the studios (and cel anime, for example, tends to really get the short end of the stick sometimes when companies decide to upscale from 480p rather than going back to source and do a new scan of the film material, and think that a bit of warpsharp and a ton of DEEN can substitute…)
Or that we have access to 35 mm copies of the film at all.
I know a friend commented that teh credits on my encode of grindhouse - and I don’t think I touched the colors - looked green instead of blue, so yeah, grindhouse’s color is a bit off me thinketh.
Yeah. I’ve seen a few cases where the sale edition is DVD9 and has bonus features, the rental is DVD5 and barebones.
