Well, Angel & Ming, like I said before the big problem about the SSD size (or most SW ship around) is there is no accurate blueprint of it:

savmagoett said:

Well being the perfectionist I am, I'm not satisfied with the available blueprints on SW books as sometimes they are wrong, or simply they doesn't exist, so most of the time I draw them myself. To do so I have to recreate a side view with photos of the model or screencaps from the movies, consider perspective effects and other problems such as different existing models for the same ship, and then trace over it like this:

I would love to see the model they used for this shot, much less to see someone do a drawing or mock-up of how the Executor would look from a front "dead-on" angle.

Something like that:

I made this for my fan project about scales, patchworking these pictures.

And I'm afraid "my" SSD is even more bigger, according to my scaling it's

24.336 km! Trust me I wish it was 19!

This is only valid if a regular destroyer is 1,6 km, if the coning towers are indeed the same and of course if my drawing is correct…

In time I will speak every details about this in my tread but not right now…

Your absolutely right, I have heard of a SD being anywhere from 1.6km (again WEG source) to 5 miles( or 8 km) for those that are metrically inclined.

Thanks for the explain Ming:D Now i assume i can clear my mind on this and work on a matte i want to achieve grander results :D

No no Outcast had this lever messed up.. That.. that doesnt count :P

Well im happy you like the throne in the dish concept..Still i d like to see ways making this possible :D (check my mockups that include dish areas into exterior backgrounds)

Fierfek... they retconned the length of the Executor... now they say it's 19km long...  First DS2 and now the Executor. I'm so annoyed... Seriously, Leland Chee is a toss pot and he seriously has to stop changing stuff like this. It's so stupid and totally throws me off... I'd totally tear him a new one in a head to head SW contest but not if they keep changing numbers that have stood for decades:

"In 2004, the Inside the Worlds of the Star Wars Trilogy reference book changed the Executor's size to 19km long. It was explained by continuity checker Leland Chee to be more consistent with the films. Later books and reference guides mostly followed this number. The Official Databank has given various sizes over the years, starting with "over eight times longer than an ISD", to 12,8km (as a compromise between fan groups) and finally, 19km."

Idiots... I've remember that the Executor is 8km long since 1995... Anyway, I'll check your mock ups later. Gonna get some sleep and grumble at LFL's latest screwing with the SW universe. Fierfeks...

As with all EU stuff, it all started with the West End Games Role-playing game. This is where the SSD was deemed to be 8km. (Source: Imperial Source Book: WEG: 1987-88)

WEG Roleplaying was awesome, and the third best selling table top next to D&D and Rifts.... if only the management was better. *sigh*

Read "The Secret History of Star Wars" (2008, in print) by Michael Kaminski. It's quite enlightening.

This is like the fourth time I've seen you mention this in the past few days.  Are you a sock?

;-)

On the contrary, I was merely extolling the virtues of this amazing and revolutionary product by Mr. Kaminski (who has not paid me large sums of money to say this).

And if you order in the next ten minutes, I'll throw in one of these attractive sleeping bags (a great value) at no additional cost!

;)

Kurgan, glad to hear you have also read this masterpiece.

I to discovered it about a year or so ago. You will be happy to know that Mr. Kaminski follows this project and posts here on occasion under the handle zombie84.

I contacted him awhile back via his webpage which also has some great articles. He was very helpful and answered all the questions I had about his book.

With all this talk of a US filming unit it has me very excited!!

Will we see Rebel Troopers and Snow Troopers fighting it out in the snow fields of Hoth?!?! It is something I suggested a long time ago (with others).

I do know that Lucasfilm originally had Snow Troopers in these scenes. A book (I lost years ago) called the Empire Strikes Back Notebook had storyboards as well as the script. In the story boards it had a couple of scenes of Snow Troopers running underneath the AT AT walkers.

Here is the book.

This is all very exciting and I wonder what Ady has truly planned.

I was able to track down a copy, there are some AWESOME storyboards in here. Here's just a couple:

Thanks Tobar!

I owe you a debt of gratitude. I knew my memory was not faulty.

That would be so cool to see AT-ATs step on troops!

The only issue I as a newb could see in the trailer was that it might be nice to get a better coloring/shading on the Falcon on the Bespin Landing pad when they enter the city with Lando.  It looks a bit out of focus and no where near as clear as it does while it's taking off in a hurry.

It should be slightly out of focus in that shot because the focus is on the foreground characters and not on the ship. The main sections of the ship are the same they were in the original so the focusing is exactly the same

vaderios said:

Coming back around still even ady posted previous shots that indicating the falcon arrives at sunset still like the idea of sunrise :)

It's definitely going to be sunrise in my version.

Looks very cool... although I've always liked the fact Cloud City looked a dot in the distance. It's reminiscent of the Death Star in the distance as the Millenium Falcon approaches in A New Hope... "he's heading for that small moon!"... it's this small object in the distance that you only get a sense of the massive scale and detail of once you get up close... and boy does Cloud City do that!

That was a nice 'Bespin' shot vaderios, but I must agree with Vincent's comment here.  The original 'sunlit' reveal of the small, distant 'Cloud City' was always one of my favourite establishing 'beauty' shots in the movie, I have to say.

I just wonder if and how Adywan will tweak it in any way....

And I agree with the way doubleofive recently described how he always saw the Falcon's arrival as being at 'sunset'....with the events of Leia pacing in the apartment coming during the next day, and everything else taking place up until the Falcon blasted off in the evening....  Interesting that Adywan saw the 'Falcon' as arriving at a 'sunrise', and all the following events taking place on the same day up until the evening....

It will all still look glorious I'm sure.

doubleofive said:

As others have said, there's something about the original shot, with the sun breaking through the clouds to reveal the city in the distance...  I wouldn't want to lose it.

Unfortunately that reveal shot is going. The sun is behind the city whereas in every other shot the sun is facing the city (as has been discussed before) and you can see from the new close-up city matte as the falcon approaches the sun will be facing the city. So this shot has to go as it stands now. Even though i have always loved that shot myself it just doesn't work within the edit now but i will be replacing it with a new reveal shot which will still have the city in the distance

Oldfan said:

Myself, I like the idea of the Falcon arriving at sunset. I think that because that has always been how it was, it will feel very strange for me to adapt to sunrise instead. It is not only a change in the visuals in this case, but a change to the actual timing of events.

I'm pretty sure that it was always meant to be sunrise when they arrived.  Just take a look at the GOUT. When they leave the platform and walk down the stairs the windows clearly shows it is daytime. It almost looks like there was a section edited out between those 2 shots. Talking of which i found a very interesting photo the other day. When they are going for the dinner when they turn the corner there was originally another shot in between which would explain the continuity problem with their positions. They originally turned and walked across an uncovered walkway.

Bingowings said:

I have the strongest possible suspicion that the elevator will not only remain but will corrected in the shots it's missing at great effort and with great effect.

The window will be seen in all shots that it was missing in the SE

Your reveal shot was one of my favorite shots in the trailer..... please don't cut it.

Couldn't you keep the shot and then have the falcon fly to the other side and turn around coming in from the other angle? YOu do have a falcon model...

Just a thought...

There we go: Anakin with PT-style robes. I gotta say, it really does enhance the shot even further.

As for composites... I did some experiments with them, but ultimately they just looked too friggin' creepy for me to finish them. On top of that, I never liked the idea of implementing Hayden into ROTJ in the first place. Post-Sith Anakin is always going to be part of Sebastian Shaw's legacy, and I never liked the idea of stepping all over it just to tie the two trilogies together tighter. For two generations (the theatrical Warsies and the VHS Warsies) Shaw was the face of Anakin Skywalker, so I don't think that should be taken away from him.

 Geat work on the update!!

This is one of the changes in the OT that bothers me the most. It should be Sebastian Shaw. The reason being that Anakin is redeemed in the end.

Anakin is redeemed for the love of his son and padme. His son is in peril so he turns on the emporer and fullfills his destiny to bring balance to the force. Not at age twenty something but at age forty something.

It is much more powerful that after all that evil "there is still good in him".

I am all for the kill Lando Idea. It was going to happen up until the final draft I think.

Bingowings, I think your idea of killing off Luke is pretty cool.

But in the end I think the underlying issue is one that even Lawrence Kasdan brought up in an interview I watched. The film lacks a sense of self-sacrafice.

Kasdan wanted to have one of the main characters killed off in the first act. I think he wanted Han Solo to die and so did Harrison Ford. However, George Lucas put a stop to that.

But.... if a major character dies there needs to be a lengthy exposition of it and an emotional response from the other characters. Otherwise it just seems hollow.

I really don't know what Ady has planned. But I am very curious to see how he is going to tinker with ROTJ's storyline.

something like mustafar then ;)

If you haven't read the rough draft of Revenge of the Jedi then here it is

http://www.starwarz.com/starkiller/scripts/revenge_revised_rough_draft.htm

I read it around the time Revenge of the Sith was released in 2005 and I loved it; though I know that it would have been such an expensive film had it been made.

Thanks Darth Cronos! I did read this script and I liked it a lot.

I feel it needed further revision such as Darth Vaders dialogue and Ben seems to just hang around at the end chillaxin with the Emperor while Luke and Vader fight.

But it is a much more exciting movie. The end space battle seems so much more epic. You can definitely tell that ROTJ was a much more budget concious film. I liked having the team infiltrate the sanctuary moon to set up a laser and I also liked Luke being separated for most of the film.

This script illustrates to me that one of the main problems of ROTJ is that the final showdown happens in the middle of nowhere in space. It is much more dramatic having it happen at the Imperial capital ( Coruscant or Had Abbadon). It also would make much more sense in terms of wrapping up the whole trilogy and tying it to Episode III.

However we are unable to change this fact due to the fact we can't re-shoot scenes with the original actors who are 30 years younger. Maybe....in 20 more years Adywan will figure out a way... but who knows.

Great mockup!

I love it. The original one looks so bland.

I am also for adding in the planet Endor is a sanctuary moon for. Like you have in this pic.

I don`t think it is feasible for adding in wookies. I think we are stuck with the EWOKS. But you must admit. Ewoks are better than gungans. EWOKS are way less silly and idiotic.

I would prefer the end battle between Vader and Luke on Coruscant... I just don`t know how you would do it. Seems you would need to change diologue to make it make sense. The end battle in one revision was supposed to happen below coruscant in a lava room.

I can understand though, that Lucas and Kasdan moved it so that it puts Luke in peril and connected to the events of the large space battle.

Hello everyone,

Been reading but not posting for a long time. I thought I would put my 2 cents in on the reflection debate.

I prefer that Ady put it in but based on the fact that the Revisited Edit is supposed to be technically superior to the Lucasfilm "official" versions.

The other reason I think it should be put in is that Luke Skywalker is reflected in the glass which makes it interactive with the set and the environment. Thus the lightsabers should be reflected as well.

Keep up the good work Ady!

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

Hello All,

Wow seems we are getting into a major story debate here so I thought I would weigh in on the subject.

I am no means an expert. So I will first source my information, as the work of Micheal Kaminski in his 600 page book "The secret history of Star Wars". A must read for every SW fan in my opinion.

Sans_Fi you are totally right. The story line was forced and it did not make any sense. It was nothing more than a stop gap for George Lucas to tie up the series in ROTJ. Yes... there was going to be a sequel trilogy.  SW was not always the "Tragedy of Darth Vader"

So where did it all go wrong?

George Lucas had a lot of trouble with making ESB (which led to the falling out between him and Gary Kurtz). The project was over budget, Irvin Kershner spent too long on it and went he went in a different creative direction. George didn't like the process and the actors didn't like it much either.

ROTJ comes along, George is in even more trouble. He is going through a messy divorce with Marcia (which crushes lucasfilm financially for 15 years), trouble with the MPAA (Steven Speilburg wanted to direct ROTJ but the MPAA wouldn't let him), the actors are even more tired with the subject matter to the point that Harrison Ford is begging to be killed off, and Richard Marquand was not experienced enough to direct the thing by himself.

So George says.... "wow... another 6 movies. I can't do it. 3 is enough. I have my ranch and that was my goal. " So he decides to wrap it all in ROTJ. So he has to tie up all the loose ends in the story, and end the saga. So he puts the ending of Ep9 in RotJ.

Luke originally was supposed to kill Darth Vader in ROTJ. Then in the Sequel trilogy Luke finds "the other", trains him or her, and they go running off to defeat the Emperor in Episode 9.

So the "other" line served two purposes.

1. It gave the audience a feeling that Luke could fail (and George could conveniently write out Mark Hamil should he wish to leave the project).

2. It was part of the plot to sequel trilogy.

George, wanted to end it all in ROTJ. So rather than just pick a new character out of the air and say "here is the other!" He forced Leia to be Luke's sister and solved the love triangle as well.

So I hope this answers our questions to why it feels forced. However, I am still in favour of the storyline staying the same. It is the way Star Wars was written and should say.

Now, on a side note, to find out who the "other" was going to be, more information on the sequel trilogy, and why it will never be made. You will just have to read "The Secret History of Star Wars."

I think I will play a new game on the forum.

I am going to place Janskeet on my ignore list. Then try and figure out what he said from everyone elses comments about it.

Matticon.

I have already done that, myself.  Unfortunately it's not too hard to figure out what he says.

Since I've hit ignore, he's apparently tried to bribe Ady into a credit for his wonderful suggestions, and then promptly suggested moving the carbon freezing chamber location to the Executor.

Now if everyone else will just hit ignore, or just not comment, this game gets much more rewarding.

Oh, I thought when you hit ignore it blocks all the replies with quotes as well.
