Looks very cool... although I've always liked the fact Cloud City looked a dot in the distance. It's reminiscent of the Death Star in the distance as the Millenium Falcon approaches in A New Hope... "he's heading for that small moon!"... it's this small object in the distance that you only get a sense of the massive scale and detail of once you get up close... and boy does Cloud City do that!

That was a nice 'Bespin' shot vaderios, but I must agree with Vincent's comment here. The original 'sunlit' reveal of the small, distant 'Cloud City' was always one of my favourite establishing 'beauty' shots in the movie, I have to say.

I just wonder if and how Adywan will tweak it in any way....

And I agree with the way doubleofive recently described how he always saw the Falcon's arrival as being at 'sunset'....with the events of Leia pacing in the apartment coming during the next day, and everything else taking place up until the Falcon blasted off in the evening.... Interesting that Adywan saw the 'Falcon' as arriving at a 'sunrise', and all the following events taking place on the same day up until the evening....

It will all still look glorious I'm sure.

As others have said, there's something about the original shot, with the sun breaking through the clouds to reveal the city in the distance... I wouldn't want to lose it.

Unfortunately that reveal shot is going. The sun is behind the city whereas in every other shot the sun is facing the city (as has been discussed before) and you can see from the new close-up city matte as the falcon approaches the sun will be facing the city. So this shot has to go as it stands now. Even though i have always loved that shot myself it just doesn't work within the edit now but i will be replacing it with a new reveal shot which will still have the city in the distance

Will you maybe consider at least putting Bespin a bit closer? Sort of meeting half way :)

Here is a hit

Credit to original artists.. Not mine.

Benefits of having a granter establishing shot: Make cloud city actually dominates the skies rather is a dot in the distance.

Low angle means size and quantity(sounds familiar)

Cloud and ship overlaps make the shot alive and with depth

Most of the shots that we see/know have cloud city in the distance.. We need more close ups. It might be this^

And morning instead of sunset..

Oh dear lord in heaven, that looks so good! Adywan, if you've seen this please tell me you'll at least consider making it like that.

Well, I also have a .ts sample at 23.967 (which I got due to a donation) and it still has the same problem, no sound and sped up video. This comes straight from Adywan so I didn't change anything myself, and again, it plays fine on my PC but not on my HDTV.

I even tried changing container, from the original .ts to .mkv with GDSmux from the Haali Media Splitter, the resulting file plays fine in VLC but there's still something wrong when I play it on my HDTV. Now the video plays like it should but the audio is still missing. My TV can play other AC3 encoded files so it's not that it doesn't support it.

I really don't understand why it keeps having problems with either the video or audio (or both), because technically my HDTV supports all these filetypes and plays other such files without problem. I'll try this RipBot thing for now, but does this recode the video/audio too? I'd rather not have too much quality loss and just change container. But if it works then that's a step in the right direction. I'll let you know how this goes, thanks for the suggestions so far :)

EDIT: I managed to get them to work (both the 1080p@24fps sample, and the 720p@23.967fps sample) by converting them to .mkv with RipBot. Though the bitrate is a bit lower, I suppose it'll have to do untill we get a PS3 in a year or so.

It's gonna be hell to convert the full movies, my PC will probably have to do some serious crunching for a day or so :)

Just read this article on the many "restorations" the OT has suffered:

http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.html

Quite interesting, though I suppose some of you have probably already read it :)

After reading this article it becomes apparent how much of a cockup Lucas has done to these movies! It almost makes you want to call the movie protection agency to take the movies away from their abusive father.

Adywan, when you release ESB:R will it be AVCHD or MKV, I know it's a long way off but I'm just curious.

Also, I just finished downloading your ANH:R PAL DVD9 and it's great! I've only tested in on my PC for now because I need to buy new DVD9s.

I love the new duel, but I hope that you're not going to change the duel in ESB:R (or ROTJ:R for that matter) since they were already well choreographed. The duel in ANH was always a bit short, but the ones from ESB/ROTJ were just perfect to me.

Well I don't have a usenet account and I'm not getting a subscription just to download a few files. Since my new HDD hasn't arrived yet I can't download big files for the moment because I have less than 10GB left :(

I'll try remuxing the audio again, see if that helps. The 14GB mkv you mention, is that also colour-corrected?

Sigh, it still has the same problem. It plays fine on the PC and MediaInfo says the remuxed sample plays at 23.967p, but on my telly it's still sped up and no sound.

Adywan, if possible could you perhaps put up a sample of the AVCHD version of ESB, since it's 23.967p I can check if it still has this problem. If it plays fine that means that I did something wrong with remuxing the 24p sample.

The problem is that I don't have much HDD space left for now, I've ordered a new one to build an external HDD but the enclosure hasn't arrived yet, so downloading the big files will have to wait.

Plus, the only way for me to play those files on the telly is with a USB stick, but I only have a 4GB one. So I really want to be sure if it'll work :)

I'll try your suggestion of also remuxing the audio. though when I listen to my remuxed sample on PC, the sound seems alright, but I'll give it a try.

I'll let you know if this works, thanks for your suggestions.

EDIT: I didn't necessarily mean a sample of AotC, any movie would do :) But I'll first try with my remuxed sample later.

I tried to convert to mkv with MakeMKV but it says the sample is too short (180s when it needs at least 120s) to do this. And I'm not downloading the full versions before I'm certain that they'll work.

Besides, my HDTV does play .ts files and when I renamed the .m2ts file to .ts my HDTV did play it. Maybe it simply speeds up the video because it's 24p instead of 23.967p, is there an easy way for me to convert the sample to 23.967p? Or could someone perhaps post a sample based on one of the 23.967p versions?

Also, the sample is from AotC, but Adywan's full version is listed as 23.967p, could someone confirm if the sample is indeed 24p?

I'm afraid that I'm not much of an A/V editor so my options seem pretty limited. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I've remuxed the sample with tsMuxeR and changed the framerate from 24p to 24000/1001 (=23.967p). I'll test it later because the family is watching the telly right now :)

One question though, when I remuxed the .m2ts file to .ts I had selected the video and both audio tracks, is this okay?

Project Index: Star Wars Preservations (last update 29th Oct '17)

I'm looking for a fan-edit that simply takes the 2006 GOUT DVD9 (preferably PAL), leaves everything intact (including existing audio), but adds the 5.1 surround track from the 97SE LDs.

Obviously you'd have to edit the AC3 track a little to accommodate changes like Han shooting first, but those should be very minor differences.

I'm not much of an A/V editor so I wouldn't know how to do this myself (well adding the track might be easy, but editing it and syncing I can't do), so if anyone could do this I would be very grateful.

Cheers.

I don't have a blu-ray or hd-dvd player but I do have a big Samsung LCD TV that can play a lot of file formats (avi, mpg, mkv, ts, etc...) via USB. I downloaded the sample and extracted the .m2ts file but it didn't recognise it, but after renaming the extension to .ts it plays it.

However, the video is somewhat sped up and I don't get any sound. I still have to connect the TV to my receiver for full surround (have to buy another cable for that), so it might just be that it can't downsample the 5.1 to stereo, although that seems unlikely. The sped up video I can't explain. I noticed that all but your AVCHD version of ANH has 24p and the rest at 23.976p, could this be the problem?

I'd really like to watch this thing on my new HDTV, so hopefully you can help me with this.

EDIT: The sample plays fine on my PC, but VLC says that it has a frame rate of 48 whereas all my other HD videos have either 24 or 23.967. Could this be why it's sped up?

[REQUEST] Star Wars John Alvin DVD covers...
Time

Would anyone be willing to make high resolution custom DVD covers based on the John Alvin poster art? The first copies of the Star Wars movies I ever had was the 1995 VHS box that used this artwork, and I always loved it above all other Star Wars posters.

I have some high quality scans of this artwork, but if you happen to have even better versions then feel free to use that. I would be eternally grateful if anyone could do this for me (and anyone else who wants them).

Here are some scaled down versions of the artwork and my VHS covers, if you feel up to the task please tell and I will post the higher resolution ones because they are 70 MB big!

Star Wars;

The Empire Strikes Back;

Return Of The Jedi;

Covers;

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/1788/img0002bj.jpg

http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/8333/img0003b.jpg

If possible I would like them to be exact replicas of the VHS covers, NO custom layouts or alternative screencaps!

http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/5417/img0001bj.jpg

Don't worry about the Dutch text on the back of my VHS covers, I want it in English, just use whatever text the English covers had. The barcode and age certification logo don't have to be included, but if you do please make them a bit smaller. And the THX logo on the spine can stay but please get rid of the rainbow colours.

Like I said, these are only the scaled down versions, contact me for the high quality ones.

I'm sorry if this sounds nitpickish, but I really love those covers and I'd be very grateful if anyone with good photoshop skills would do this.

Thanks on advance,

Dennis

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

Okay thanks :)

Anyway, I'm thinking about getting a 14-day free trial at Giganews because you can download 10GB so that I can download the DVD9 from this alt.binaries.starwars thingie.

But it says that some files in this collection are incomplete, so can I still download the PAL DVD9 from alt.binaries.starwars or not?

I've never used usenet so I'm not familiar with it.

Cheers

EDIT: I've seen Adywan mention something called Quickpar, can this fix things if a collection has incomplete files?

DOUBLE EDIT: Does anyone know if the PAL DVD9 is available on rapidshare or some other site?
