Star Wars is the best movie of the franchise.
The Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars movie of the franchise.

Which one you prefer says a lot about how much of a Star Wars fan you are vs simply liking good movies.

Thanks for the great distinction though between the two. I’ve never heard it put that way.

Someone has used it as a signature without “of the franchise” here for years but I don’t remember who.

I watched the trailer once. Didn’t like it at all. I don’t even like the poster. I’m getting worried. I did like the teaser, but… well, hopefully it’s good.

What were some of the biggest things that stuck out to you in the trailer that made you worried?

I’d probably have to see it again but the biggest thing was that it had a completely different feel than what a SW movie is to me. The porg felt like a baby Groot, the walkers in the beginning looked like they were from a video game, Snoke looked unnecessarily bad to the point of being ridicilously ugly, and the Leia/Kylo scene just felt something not belonging to classical science fantasy world. But hey, I had just woken up minute earlier when I saw the trailer and maybe in context it may work. I just got a completely different vibes from this than on the last teaser or TFA trailer for comparison. And I hope I’m wrong.

Do intentionally cheesy spoof covers for intentionally cheesy spoof movies (like Hot Shots!) count as bad?

He even has two pairs of sunglasses in the first photo!

I think that fits the spirit of the film and is probably intentional (or maybe even in the original photo).
It’s not funny, but neither was the movie.

Time for a fourth reboot:

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/sep/20/sarah-connor-returns-linda-hamilton-to-star-in-terminator-6-arnold-schwarzenegger

Again they need to annonce a new trilogy, isn’t this like the third new trilogy that they’re trying to make? How about making one good movie first… Well, I’m hopeful for the new film but the whole franchise has become a mess.

Movies generally considered "bad" that you like.
Time

I can’t believe that License to Kill is “generally considered bad”, it’s in my top3 Bond films if not even in the first place. I mean, you can have feel it’s not your cup of tea but I can’t see how it actually is bad. It has good actors, pretty locations, a cool villain, great action, nice 80’s set pieces… Some feel that From Russia with Love is their favorite Bond films and I don’t like it at all but I still don’t consider it as bad. Die Another Day on another hand, now that is bad and belongs in this thread if someone would like it.

When they are lazy Photoshop works, yes. Looks like they’ve just pasted Charlie Sheen’s head and other objects together including simple layer styles. He even has two pairs of sunglasses in the first photo!

Was just browsing Hulu and saw the new cover for Batman Returns. Same style as the new Supermans that were posted. Just as ugly. Just as off-putting.

Streaming doesn’t count though.

Like I said on the previous page, Batman films got the same treatment as Superman. I’m too lazy to post all 4 of them but they’re crap.

What the heck is this?

It’s a micky-take from the lads working on ROTJ - they put in a dragon from the 1981 film Dragonslayer and took a couple of photos for laughs, I think…

It’s THE dragon from Dragonslayer, Vermithrax Pejorative !

And yes, it’s a fun picture from the ILM guys.

Wow, it’s rare for me to see completely new photos from SW, I had no idea about this.

Eh, it still sucks.

Pretty much all poster art for wide releases look terrible nowadays, the only movie released this year that caught my attention based on poster art alone was Baby Driver.

Teaser/advance posters for Wonder Woman were widely appreciated around the world (theatrical was very bland), but whatever. I’m happy that they are actually going to use 3 of the teaser posters for different BD releases here (regular, steelbook and 3D). Too bad I’m already thinking about moving into 4K and that cover wasn’t great with all the cast in it.

This following one isn’t actually completely terrible but a good example of taking the same piece of artwork and then f**king it all up. First the awesome US cover (which hues closely to the poster feel)…

…and the ruined UK cover…

I may have to get the more expensive film book edition, or import the US BR just to not have that on my shelf LOL.

*loudly sings God Bless the USA*

And here I was thinking the US Best Buy steelbook was bad.

Wow, can’t beleive we actually “won” with WW:

This was the best poster for the movie IMO and it’s even hanging on my wall.
Sorry, not the “best cover art” thread…

My ranking:
★★★★★

 1. The Empire Strikes Back DESPECIALIZED
 2. Star Wars DESPECIALIZED
 3. Return of the Jedi DESPECIALIZED

So you like despecialized movies more than the actual originals? Huh.

I certainly like watching them over any official version. The picture and sound quality is miles ahead of the official product and the SE changes have been erased to the point that I can’t tell they were ever there.

I’m not talking about versions or what is out there but what the movies actually are. It’s like saying my favorite movies are The Terminator Special Edition DVD and Terminator 2 Skynet Edition. When ranking films it’s odd to see them specifically categorized as despecialized versions and not actually the movies that were actually made.
