Amazon Reviews (re the 2004 OT SE DVD release)
Time
Ive been trying to post my review for a while, but Amazon has a message saying the system for reviews is unavailable.

GL must have gotten to them, and now only fanboys voting 5/5 stars are allowed to review. That bastard...

Ill be posting my review as soon as the system allows. I think its important for all our reviews to put emphasis on this release not being the original it is touted as...otherwise we might just sound childish.

Peace, Lethe

I see the similarities also, but I think they are similar in that they are exploiting an interest in the public. Taking their position as "giver" to the extreme. Its the ugly cut throat capitalist way.

I definitely wouldnt be suprised if after RotS Lucas releases the OT, albeit as part of some rediculously overpriced set. Im not sure obviously, but I wouldnt be suprised. This has been postulated by a lot of others on this board. I just happen to agree with them.

Question about PT to OT continuity
Time
Forgive me if this has been discussed before on the boards. I was thinking about it the other night and looked briefly but couldnt find anything.

In the PT we are given an explanation about the Force, midiclorians? (or whatever). But in the OT we have a conversation between Ben and Luke, where the force is explained quite differently, at least I think so. (And also, there are numerous reference to the Force as a sort of "religion" which I think implies it relies less on the science of particular micro-thingies, and more on faith, etc).

Are we to understand that everyone can manipulate the force, which is the understanding I fostered from the OT? Or are there only certain people, those with high counts of the "midi..."whatever?

Like I said, this may have been discussed before, sorry if it has.

I personally like to think of the OT version, it seems more Taoist. It makes the force a little more mystical and awe inspiring. Why the need to get all technical?

GL apologist vs. OT "fanboy"

But wait, lets not actually talk about the topic at hand. Lets disect eachother...and not accomplish anything.

At any rate, I think its amusing to entertain the thought of GL being sued for false advertisement. I think we could more reasonably sue him for idiocy, but unfortunately thats not against the law.
And I think the majority of other people responding to this topic were simply entertaining it because its amusing, not because its plausible.

Star Wars DVD Music Mix Botched!!
Time
This is truly disconcerting. I had just forced myself to accept the changes for the DVDs. I was almost settled into a stupor of "this is how its going to be, so get used to it." But all my effort is in vain. Not only do I have to watch rediculous versions of the movies I love, but they have glaring faults that are not even excusable by the "artistic...blah blah" bullcrap.

Lucas....you bastard.

P.S. I dont have 5.1 for my main dvd player, but when I watch the films on my computer this problem seems very obvious, and I am completely uninformed when it comes to this kind of stuff. I mean, its not even a matter of comparing it to the older versions. Its just flat out obviously bad.

Changes in 2004 DVDs
Time
I think Im leaning more towards the purist position. Im nowhere near a fanboy of GL. I recently read the side-by-side of the new DVDS compared to the OTR and the changes dont seem as drastic as forecast. Im by no means saying that these new versions are excusable...

I think if you had the Original Theatrical versions, just cleaned up like they did the new DVDs, with the lovely Dolby, etc. but didnt make any changes to the movie itself (scenes, music, lightsabers) that would be the pinnacle.

Anyone who hasnt seen that side-by-side its on digitalbits. I felt a bit of relief after reading the changes/comparison.

Admittedly, im buying the DVDs on tuesday, I cant rationalize to myself why I shouldnt. I think that even if everyone on this site didnt buy the DVDs they would still do incredibly. I just hope that one day GL wakes the **** up and releases the OTRs on DVD...until then Ill just close my eyes when Greedo shoots first.

If the classics were released...
Time
*Hesitates replying because of the sudden appearance of grammar/spelling nazis*

At any rate. I think that id still end up buying the SEs. I think at this point if Lucas releases the O-OT they are going to be pretty much bare bones - which would be fine with me truthfully. Id be inclined to purchase the SEs just to see how far he has gone with this revisionist thing. Ive heard some truly wacky stuff about Haydn Chr...whatever being edited in over Shaw. That really bugs me, and id like to see if its true. There are a ton of others, but id just be rehashing.
The only way I think I wouldnt buy the SEs after the O-OTs (if they were made available) is if they both had the same supplimental material, etc. I just couldnt see the point then since I have the VHSs of the '97 releases.

Its sad to me in hindsight that the only versions ive seen in theatres were the SEs, but thats just my luck for being born a few years too late. Id really like to have a quality, durable format of the O-OTs. I love them so.

Well played Sith Lord.

I was always curious myself, but this solves it.

Aside: Nobody really seems all that accurate with the Stormtrooper rifles. I mean, in the prison escape scene, as well as later when Luke and Leia are on the unextended bridge. I think maybe those particular rifles just suck or something. But most likely its a dramatic element. Like others have said, you cant kill all the main characters off in their first encounter with the ultra-precise stormtroopers.

Lucasfilm DVD announcement: they are NOT the original cuts, they're the Special Editions.
Time
I guess this is a good a place as any for my first post.

Ever since I found out for sure that the DVDs this September arent the Original Theatrical releases ive been trying to figure out what the heck GL is thinking.
I found this site and signed the petition and Ive been telling everyone I talk to about it. Ive never really considered myself a die-hard fanboy, but I cant stand for this kind of unreasonable defilement of Star Wars. I dont know if my VHS editions are going to last until I have kids, and I sure as hell dont want to introduce them to those '97 SE versions.

Hopefully Ill become a regular on these forums. More importantly, I hope that FOX and Gl get the freaking message.
