Why the fans complain...
Time
It all sounds like the speculation thrown around with the W brothers and the Matrix.

"Oh wow, the movie did great...yeah, did we mention it was originally a trilogy"

Im just saying. I dont particularly care if it was all written on the fly (Star Wars I mean) - I still loved them, and nothing would change that. Thats why I wish they were available on DVD.

Now... the tail-stomp... Jaba should have had Fet shoot Han's testicles off for this indignity.

LMAO.

I can see your point about the new concept revealing something about Jaba - but I think, as I think you do, its a reach.

The original was amazing. It was about as a good a finish to Han's introduction as you can imagine. We already know he is cocky, and we know that he is "cool", now after he wastes Greedo, we know he is a real bad ass. Salty dog you know? I think that was the original draw to his character. (Im thinking about the lines in ESB, about Leia liking Han, because he's a scoundrel, etc.)

I never had much respect for Greedo, but I think some of that came from how slow he was to draw. I guess I just thought he was a loser, cause he was dead. Now, I already think he's a loser, and now he's a terrible shot, and then he's dead. Oh well.

The intelligence of SW Fan boys....
Time
There are still a lot of legitimate threads on the forum. I think if you are tired of the fanboy/anti-fanboy thing you steer away from threads titled "The intelligence of SW Fan boys...."

Im not trying to be a jerk, obviously your input is appreciated wherever you want to give it. If you feel like these particular discussions are getting old, there are some great ones still around. Im with you for the most part, now that the DVDs are out - I dont want to see this board turn into one big ANTI-Lucas rant...So those of us with deeper interests should try to keep the board alive and healthy, no?

Peace, Lethe

They certainly seem to have no problem over generalizing. I agree with starboy, we have a very broad spectrum of opinins on this forum. Personally, I think thats great - diversity is the spice of life.

Not that we arent guilty of it from time to time, but that whole thread looks like a bunch of people who are gonna have tired arms soon, from patting eachother on the back so frequently.

*I just lost my concentration because Shaq is playing basketball with Regis on tv, WTF?*

At any rate, people making such broad generalizations should be ignored. I dont think we are all malicious and nasty. I dont want to see GL publicly flailed all the time.

I think the only people we ever really tear into are the StarWars.com fanboys, but thats just because they are silly.

I cant believe thats canon now. A bounty hunter misses at point blank...talk about inefficiency. He was working for Jaba, perhaps he should have double checked his references...

Maybe they dont have a mandatory physical that would have revealed Greedo's glaring flaw - BLIND AS A "something blind"

Id say minoc (however thats spelled) but maybe they are like bats, and actually can see. Obviously StarWars.com folks cant see, or hear, or use any sort of logic - the last part is an effect that some might not think is directly related to having ones head firmly placed in GLs large ass. (But apparently...)

HERO
Time
I think this was an amazing movie. However, I think that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was better. And I get a lot of flak from people about that opinion, but whatever.
I think that Hero was truly amazing, but with the focus on more social elements. CTHD on the other hand was a bit more personal, and aimed at personal philosopy(Taoism, traditional Chinese religion, etc). After having some great discussions with people ive conceded that I gave both movies a perfect score. I think they are breathtaking pieces of art. In the end its a preference of subject matter, and also possibly my great respect for Chow Yun-Fat.

criterion LD version...dammit man, maybe I should have invested in an LD player those few years ago.

I also prefer the DC, but thats not to say that I dont appreciate the theatrical cut. I havent really heard much, but that news about Warner Bros. (thanks windexed) sounds very promising...at least in terms of having a better DVD around...the current one is deplorable.

How do you get the number for that? Not that I looked, not even remotely...not even at all. Im sure if id look it wouldnt be hard to find. So if I call what do I say, "Hey, id like to report some misleading advertising!! I have about 40k people who think its misleading!!"

I wonder what they'd say? Lucas probobly bought them off long ago...

While Im sure you dont generalize that everyone on this forum is a fanboy, I feel the need to make it clear that im not. However, I find myself in concurrance with these fanboys quite often.
Bizzle, as we deepened this conversation I see more and more about your argument that I agree with. I can really appreciate your perspective.

Where we still seem to disagree is on the topic of GL's obligations. Im not being a vindictive brat, he didnt "ruin my childhood," etc. Nonetheless, I feel that Lucas is indeed in debt to the Star Wars fanboys you speak of, as well as casual fans like myself. The position that he is currently in, to make these movies into whatever he would like (to complete them as he would have it), is soley the result of the fanbase created by the Original films. We can split hairs over this argument all day if you like...but I think you would have to concede, on some level, that this is accurate.
Dont get me wrong, Im not saying that they are our movies. Not by any means. And I dont really support the "re-visions" that fans have given the Prequels.
But I think that Lucas owes some level of respect to the fanbase. In an interview with EW I think, its been on another thread here, he is asked "whether or not he takes into consideration the opinions of fans when making these changes?" (My words). He responds "Not really, they are my movies, to do with what I like" (Again, my words, but the effect is accurate).

Now, Im not debating that with him, nor with you. They arent the fan's movies. But I think its silly of him to completely disregard the people who put him in the position he is in today.
This all goes without mentioning the other obligations I think he has, which I wont expand on as much. I believe he owes it to the entire community of film to preserve the originals the best way possible. Something as influential, and revolutionary as the o-OT should be around, for generations to come. (Oddly I was reflecting on a quote from the side of the 95 Faces Box Set, where it says something about "our children's children, blah blah" - another batch of wtf?)
There have been other suggested obligations, but I feel like they arent as defensible.

I really dont think we are at complete opposition Bizzle. Perhaps we just have a different point of view, and thats great. If all of us felt the same way about everything, a boring life it would be.

Back to topic, and in reply to R2s post. I really think you hit it on the head, about looking into things too much. I mean, im all for an intricate universe with all sorts of off-screen subplots. But thats all they are. Its glorified fan-fiction. Dont break your brain on it too much, its really not worth it.

Peace, Lethe

I think this is a pretty good point. Even if it just causes a recall of items currently on the shelves, and then a sticker has to be removed or affixed on later releases. It does get the information out there, and we do get to make a point. While it might be an insignificant cost to FOX, its still something. Not to mention that legally GL will have to give up his calling them "the classics" which is big moral victory for us.

Overall I think that if this happened, it would be positive for us. At least we might garner more support for the petition, etc. Get some more attention from FOX. Who knows?

Id like to confer my congratulations as well Obi. There are few things in life as wonderful as a partner to share your greatest interests with.

I think this is a testament against the whole "nerds are always single, living in their mom's cellars" cliche. There seem to be a good number of "nerds" on the forum whom have wives or girlfriends. Its like a revolution in my mind.

Bizzle, I can see that you put some thought into your posts. And I respect that. But I find I agree with Regicial - you are still missing some of the principle in the argument of this site.
The new versions are not AS GOOD as the originals - THAT IS a matter of opinion. But as you stated, the principal argument, the argument with the least grounds for refute, is simply that we want the Originals. And why not? (Like you said).
But I think you hasten over this point, and move on to saying that we should be able to appreciate the SEs on the same level. I dont think this works, not for me personally, and I can sense not for other people on this forum.
I have to go with Regicidal on this - its not rational to want to be respected when you are not first willing to respect.

42. I dont think this is a very big deal, the only problem is you have to change the clock too for the Yavin approach - since we cant do that, I say leave the old and keep it consistent.

Thanks to Darth Justin for something I can copy/paste without pics, that was a big post anyways. Hal this is a great idea, I hope we really get a quality version out of this. Im awaiting the ESB changes.

ONE NOTE - we might want to stipulate that we have the old discussion between Tarkin and Leia, since the DVD versions have a weird audio level drop off, problem. Aside from that, this looks like a great list.

Psh, of course Vader was lying to the emperor...Palpatine was so weak, and naive with the force that he wouldnt have had the slightest clue...</sarcasm>

I think its obvious that if Vader was going to deceive anyone it was Luke, but he underestimated him. Anyone who thinks that Vader was lying to his master at THIS juncture, get your head checked.

Thanks starkiller, I have to admit that I thought you were calling me out or something. Im glad that ended up not being the case.

It just dawned on me, if that were the case you'd have been defending jimbo. Now thats not to say that nobody on the forum would defend jimbo, but I should have thought about that before making a conclusion.
