Quoted for Truthery

Hey starkiller, call me dense, but whats "truthery"? I googled it real quick and got a lot of results pertaining to Magic(cards).

In potential defense of my position, Jimbo seems really cool with the SE versions, and I was just wondering if he would make a destinction in a potential interest. So, to rephrase:

Hey jimbo, would it matter what version the female preferred? If she was a purist would it be a problem for you?

And I guess its necessary to note that my second comment was entirely sarcastic and directed directly at the particularly apologetic stance that jimbo takes in conversations regarding GL, and his decisions.

But, whatever.

Watching with my fiancee
Time
The last thing Star Wars I watched with my girlfriend was ESB, well, about 20 minutes of it. I just started her in on Star Wars about a month ago. We watched ANH and she said she was bored, so I asked if she would give ESB a chance. In the scene after Luke is rescued by Han, and Leia calls Han "laserbrain" - my girlfriend just sighed and was like "this is so dumb."

So I stopped it, and im waiting until she is in a more receptive mood. She doesnt seem to think its the same for me when I watch "How to lose a guy in 10 days" with her. Oh well, we cant all be as lucky as Wonton. (Although, I am very lucky nonetheless).

I agree with you completely hellboy.

It really is too bad that you have some people acting like this isnt a problem *points to fanboys* They will eat up whatever GL tosses them and not complain. But thats not the point. The point is, its deliberately misleading - and thats effed up no matter where you stand on the "ok-ness" of the DVDs.

The intelligence of SW Fan boys....
Time
Thats an astute connection Gundark (ive been posting right after you a couple times today, weird).

I find this very amusing. I think that the uniform change doesnt hold a lot of water in terms of inconsitency - uniforms do change, and we are talking about ~18 years.
The ships, hmm. I think thats a matter of opinion. And if you consider the climate in the OT, the ships make sense to me. The Empire has huge warships, thats what they need. And variations on a theme for their small stuff (TIE). On the otherhand, you have the rebellion. What do you get when you dont have a lot of backing, and you are developing this stuff under the scrutiny and chase of a superpower: beat up looking starfighters. Personally I think that the OT ships look about a million times better than the PT. Ill take an A-Wing and Mon Calamari cruiser over any other two ships in the PT. Like I said though, this one seems more like an opinion matter.

This is a great thread, but where is Jimbo? I figure he'd at least post some retoric and such, in the fanboy defense.

Does this make sense?

I just want to remind everyone of an old addage: "there is a fine line between genius and insanity."

Oh, it doesnt have anything to do with Lucas, he is far too deranged now for me to even reflect on the past genius that may have existed, and calling him insane is kind of an insult to all those chaps in the white coats.

BTW, I think this is right at the tip top of my list of most pointless changes imaginable. Im suprised he didnt go back and change some of the characters names - it would make just as much sense.

Artists' rights
Time
I dont think anyone on the site is really arguing his right. I mean, we may say its rediculous, but it is his right. The real problem is that he wont release the originals as well. If you dont understand this now, you never will. There are about a zillion threads explaining what we feel his obligations are: to the fans, the original artists(etc.), history, the whole film making community, the list goes on. If you really cant see that perspective, ok. Like I said, im not here to convince you.

It is his right, but he is really taking it to the extreme. His stubborness about the OT isnt reasonable. There isnt much about these decisions that makes sense. But like I said, you might not agree.

Personally, I think its a travesty.

Bowling for Coruscant

Im not too familiar with the demands of video editing on a processor, but I dont think there is much reason for you to have over 3.2 GHz. In my experience the only programs demanding enough for you to even dent 3GHz is something like autocad, or a very complex flight simulator. But like I said, im not too familiar with video editing.

As far as the motherboards facilitating better/faster CPUs in the future, it really depends. Ive seen a bit about the VAIOs being stubborn with new hardware, but that might just be a few people's thoughts.

Also, RAM is very important (as bad karma said). Im running 512 DDR and its buttery smooth, I even committed about 30 percent of my RAM to helping out the processor in a pinch.

when did you see SW first...
Time
I first saw Star Wars in 88 I think. I was four years old and my mom had a pretty good collection of VHS tapes. Among them were the Star Wars trilogy, not in a box or anything, I dont know the exact details of the release she had. I remember the covers. I remember thinking that it looked so weird with that guy pointing the sword in the air. What kind of sword, look at those ships, etc.
Then I watched...and man, I think everyone here has that moment. You just get pulled in, and after that, you half lived in the Star Wars universe. I was always Han for some reason, he seemed so cool to me.

At any rate, by the time the '95 faces box came out I already had a ton of figures, an X-wing, TIE fighter, Slave I, etc. So that box set quickly became a part of my collection.
I saw the SE in theatres back to back to back. The theatre had a special thing for it, im sure that wasnt too uncommon. Of course, as a collector, and a completist, I bought the box set, but I think ive only watched them once or twice. All the rest of my viewings, too many to approximate, were the '95 set. I just never got into the changes...

Now...I share the same feelings as so many on this board. Longing for a DVD treatment of the movies that I fell into as a kid, and changed everything about movies for me. Hope. Thats all ive got.

BTW, I popped my SE A New Hope in the other day, just for the sake of comparison, and its almost impossible to watch. The tape has degraded horribly. I adjusted a lot of settings on my tv, and still couldnt seem to get a very clear/bright picture. More's the pitty for the SE, my '95 tapes look great.

Peace, Lethe

Anakin's ghost?!?!?!
Time
The way they have him acting with Padme is one of the worst things about AOTC for me. I mean, we are talking about the future top 3 Jedi Anakin Skywalker, and they make him seem so sniveling and incapable. For the first half of the movie he acts like a spoiled rich kid who isnt allowed to have the girl he has been obsessing over forever. I mean, I understand that he has to be into her, that makes sense for me with the plot-line. But spare Anakin some effing dignity.

lifestyles of the rich and insane

He really is a tool, and when the commentary gets to a controversial change, he just sort of glazes over it, if he mentions anything at all. For example, in the 2004 Jedi, when the end scene with the force ghosts comes up, he doesnt say a word regarding it. He wont even defend himself...

"Im right, and thats all there is to it. Im right because im right, so nah"

Anakin's ghost?!?!?!
Time
But it really makes sense if you think about it. I mean when he originally made Jedi, he didnt have the technology for the Anakin ghost to be young, so they let Sebastian Shaw play the ghost. But now, years later, by miraculous technological bounds we have arrived at the TRUE CINEMATIC VISION of Lucass.

WTF LUCAS, IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE!!!!

Star Wars, The Beatles, and the desecration of our cultural heritage
Time
I think you are on to a good point that mirrors the opinions of most people on this forum.

We arent just whining about our preference. The decisions made about the version that people see, or hear in the case of your topic, for the first time are very relevant culturally and artistically.

Good thoughts, welcome to the boards, and keeping posting.

Long live the o-OT and long live the Beatles original recordings!

New thoughts about getting the OT on DVD
Time
No, its from Greek mythology, as well as Dante's divine comedy. I gave an explanation in the thread for name meanings, I think its in the "off topic" forum

Id give more of an explanation right now, but im off to school.

I see lots of people viewing this thread, and I cant literally twist your arms to reply, but I would like to know what you think. Even if you think im way out in left field.

Thanks, Lethe.

OT.com appearing in GQ Magazine in September
Time
I was just looking at the site for GQ and its still about the September issue. When does it change over to the next month, I thought it was actually before the month. Does that make sense?

At any rate, I dont read GQ but im tempted to get the issue that contains the interview. Maybe that will garner some attention from GQ, in turn garnering attention from widespread media. *crosses fingers*
