Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

@DJ: Normal free download speed is like 300Kbps regardless of whether you do or do not have an account but it only took an hour to upload, so that was awesome. If you open each link in a different browser or DL manager, you can download all four links at once each at full free speed - and maybe JDownloader could also download more at once.

@stretch: PM sent :-)

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

AVCHD DVD9 is now available!!!

INFO:

STAR WARS - DESPECIALIZED EDITION HD

This is a cut which is very close to the 1977 theatrical version of STAR WARS except for some of the cleaned up original VFX (a list of changes with picture comparisons and explanations of how the shots were despecialized can be found here).

SOURCES:

1) Star.Wars.Episode.IV.A.New.Hope.1977.720p.HDTV.x264-DON (2004 SE)

2) Dark Jedi's 720p upscale of the GOUT.

3) Mattman Omega's 720p upscale of the GOUT.

4) 1997 SE DTV captures (Reivax, Flunk, KGar)

5) Adywan's SE AVCHD

6) Ady's STAR WARS Revisited

7) 70mm cell scans, Technicolour projection photos  etc. and custom mattes.

8) Puggo Grande

9) Moth3r's PAL LD transfer

I did an extensive shot by shot colour correction based on colour boosted GOUT and other available reference materials and although the colours  may not be 100% perfect, I'm really quite satisfied with them.

HIGH DEFINITION RELEASE

Fanedits and preservations are an art form and to be shared only among legal owners of the officially available releases.

This is a reconstruction of the 1983 theatrical version of Return of the Jedi.

The main source is the 2019 UHD Blu-Ray, and the original shots were restored using the amazing 4K83 fan-preservation,
which is a scan of a 35mm film made by Team Negative 1. Thanks so much for this awesome release, Team Negative 1!

Sometimes entire shots or even sequences were used from 4K83, extensively cleaned and enhanced to match the look of the UHD Blu-Ray.
In other places, like for example the Ewok eyes or Vader’s eyebrows, only small portions of the shots were replaced.

All original shots were restored, including recomposited vfx and other “fixes” made for the Special Edition.

For v3.1, minor fixes were made, the biggest of which include adding a Jabba subtitle, which was missing in 3.0, and replacing the 5.1 English audio track, where in v3.0 a custom track with additional music in the Obi-Wan ghost scene was used by mistake.

Harmy's STAR WARS TRILOGY "Partly Despecialized Edition" HD. !!! These version are now obsolete - Look for Despecialized Editions instead!!!
Time

You could say that :-)

But it's not just about the level of despecialization, the new Despecialized Edition are of higher quality in all aspects:

Picture quality: Although the PDE is 1080p and the DeEd is only 720p, the DeEd actually contains more detail due to using higher quality sources and having less compression artefacts:

Sound quality: Some of the sound mixes in the DeEd are encoded at higher bitrates from higher quality sources than the PDE.

Quality of Despecialization: Where all the original shots in the PDE were only upscales of low quality souces, in the DeEd the original shots were painstakingly reconstructed in order to better fit within the HD footage:

And the difference is much more prominent in movement.

The ESB on myspleen should be the Despecialized Edition, which is much better than PDE.

I'm most definitely not reuploading these obsolete PDE versions anywhere but you should check out the ESB DeEd, which is up on MU and Myspleen and wait for SW DeEd, which should be up in a few days.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)

That sounds like a plausible solution for the white hair. I tried fixing it in after effect but I can't get it to work without creating side effects that are worse than the hair itself. The only possible way would be to do it frame by frame and I definitely don't volunteer for that ordeal. But painting it out using the DC could work quite well and as far as I'm concerned, it could just stay in those two remaining shots.

As to the anti-aliasing, I vote for unfiltered, it's so minor, that it doesn't seem to be worth softening the picture.

These are pretty old now, I've already finished a new Despecialized Edition of Empire and SW DeEd should be on-line next week. I'm sending you the links anyway. Let me know if you want the links to DeEd Empire and watch the SW thread for the release announcement :-)

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

OK, guys, I decided to make the Greedo subs myself (see here) and encode the final version. I ran into some encoding problems (as usual) but it seems to be working now, so I'm hoping to render the master file over night, watch it to make sure everything is fine, then encode the AVCHD (estimated time: two days) - and I could be releasing this sometime halfway through next week :-)
