Moderator Edit - and quite a big one at that…

This will hopefully serve as a centralised ‘Info & Help’ thread for all things Despecialized Edition - in three main sections…

  1. An Index of ‘How-To & Help’ threads re Despecialized in the How-To’s & Technical Discussions section of the site.

  2. An Index of ‘General Despecialized Edition’ threads from in the ‘Star Wars Preservation’ section of the site.

  3. The ‘Where are the Despecialized Editions? And how do I download them?’ Mega-Merge section.

1: Anyone who does require some help on the technical side of things re the Despecialized Editions please read through the Index below, as well as the more generic threads in the ‘How-To’s and Technical Discussions’ section, to see if others here have previously experienced the same or similar issues - before making a new thread asking for assistance.

Technical and assistance threads for the Despecialized Editions remain untouched and scattered throughout the first 25 pages of the ‘How-To’s and Technical Discussions’ section.

2: Many answers to questions can also be found in the three main ‘Despecialized Edition’ threads - found in the ‘Star Wars Preservation’ section of the site. There is also a useful Despecialized Edition: Quality Control Thread - Report Issues Here thread - along with some other general Despecialized threads from that section also indexed below.

3: The ‘Where are the Despecialized Editions? And how do I download them?’ Mega-Merge section is a list of the 40 or so individual threads made on the site over the years - all asking the same two things - as the title suggests.

All of the posts contained in this section of the thread are discussion posts from every one of those various ‘Where are they? How Do I get them?’ threads; all merged into this one centralised place - for ease of use and information - as well as ‘de-cluttering’ the site of all these many repeated / similar threads.

For anyone still struggling to find the Despecialized Editions - and how to obtain them, the thread below is well worth a read…

Hello,

I was watching unboxings for the XXX’s distributed copies of the Despecialized Editions but after some research, I’ve deemed them too controversial to consider.
I want blu ray copies of the Despecialized Editions, however, but heard it’s way more expensive.

What resources do you recommend for making my own blu ray copy of the Despecialized Editions myself?

EDIT: Please don’t say the Harmy quote, I know what he said about distrubution or selling of movies and I’ve read it a million times. Hope I don’t sound too rude. Thank you!

If there is someone who owns the despecialized trilogy, could you please send all three of them to me in a private message please? Thanks. May the Force be with you all!

Hi to all
This is my first post in this forum and i hope i am posting in the right section otherwise please correct me .
i am italian and i just subbed in here after some researches i did in the net …

i am a star wars fan since i was kid ( so …long time ago in a galaxy far and far )
I don’t follow so much forums or sites regarding star wars , but i recently discover about this star wars original trilogy despecialized editions blu rays or whatever file .
i am not good in informatic things and i red all the guide regarding how to download this despecialized editions ( here in this forum ) , and i understood only the part regarding win rar 😃 so you can understand ho much i am skilled informatic speaking.
i wanted to ask how can i get the blu rays of these despecialized edition , because i am not able to download this ones or burn blu ray disks ( i don’t have these skills ) . i am a blu ray and dvd collector so i never used these peer to peer clients for downloading movies . i buy all movies i have mostly in blu ray or 4k blu rays .
i own all official dvds and blu rays release of the classical star wars trilogy :
-the first release dvd package from 2006 if i well remember
-the second release whre as bonus disc there was the movies with the original effects
-the blu ray package release of 2011
-the steelbook release of the first 3 movies

i saw in ebay someone selling these despecialized edition ( with no extra ) and i am tempted to buy these ones .
i wanted to ask if someone can burn for me and send to me . i would pay for this service .
i am not able to download these movies but i really would like to get these despecialized edition .

this is my asking .
please redirect me in the right way ( of the force ) and if i post wrongly please advice me and correct me

thanks a lot to all and may the force be with you

I just signed up on this site, and I’m very confused about how to get a download of all three DEEDs of the original trilogy, specifically the custom blu-ray set with all of the extra content like documentaries, deleted scenes, etc. I already have a bought copy of the regular retail Star Wars trilogy to qualify for this, but even after reading the introduction, I’m still unsure as to what to do next to show that I am eligible to download/torrent this.

Hey there,
New to the Forum, thanks for letting me in!
I’m wondering if anyone has a version of the original trilogy without, un-remastered etc, that they could share with me. I have been dying for years to see them, and want to know if the original Ewok celebration song is really as wonderful as I remember it.
Thanks so much!

I am having problems downloading Harmy’s original trilogy MKVs.
I get to about 96% using FreeRapid Downloader (IV part 1), then I get an error message and the download stops.
I can’t afford to keep trying and getting errors, as it eats up all my download allocation (I’m currently at 80% of my limit).

Does anyone know a better way to download, or can suggest what I am doing wrong?

Main reason for my post is I’m looking to collect the “Despecialized” movies for my BluRay collection and I don’t have the slightest clue on how to obtain them in all their HD glory…

I honestly don’t know how to burn movies or print labels, and am looking for the easiest way to obtain them, even if it means paying someone to do it for me…

ANY help from someone out there would be superbly appreciated!

Edit my moderator : The original title of your thread - ‘FUCKKKK!!! HELP!!’ - isn’t likely to get you much help on this site.

Take the time and enjoy having a look around the site and you’ll soon find what you are looking for - as well as details on how to acquire it - for free.

I’ve been a fan of Star Wars for years, and so has my significant other, and we both love Harmy’s despecialized editions. We saw a post on the fan edit site:
http://www.fanedit.org/featured-restoration-star-wars-trilogy-despecialized-editions/
And it shows menu screens and all that really cool stuff. We’re curious on how do we download the trilogy with the menus, then how do we burn it onto a blu-ray disk so we can put it in our blu-ray player and have all the menus to choose from.
Sorry if this is an easy thing to do and I’m just being dumb! I’m tech savvy, but not when it comes to burning stuff on dvd/blu-ray
Thanks!

For the longest time now, I’ve been trying to get the Star Wars Despecialized Edition trilogy by Harmy, but so far, none of the recommended ways have worked for me. I found out that MySpleen isn’t doing invites to get them anymore, and I don’t trust any torrent sites to download them. (I don’t want to risk malware or any other problems like that.) So my question is, how exactly do I get the Despecialized Editions now? I’ve been searching for a long time now, and I’ve tried just about everything, but so far I haven’t had any success. At this point, all I need is the files. I can handle burning them onto discs myself once I find them, but no matter what I do, I just can’t get them anywhere, at least not with any safety. What do I do?

  1. Trying to use “The Ultimate Introductory Guide” walkthrough for acquiring these versions, but the jdownloader program is saying that none of the files can be found online. Any quick suggestions?
  2. In the meantime, I have downloaded multiple torrents. At the end of New Hope, I can see “v2.5” but I don’t see a version number at the end of the other 2; any clue as to telling whether I’m watching the correct (most recent) versions?
  3. One thing I have not been able to ascertain from any of the info around here is this: My understanding is that there are 3 versions of the files, from TUIG:
MKV (.mkv) - the full, complete release with all features
AVCHD (.iso, BDMV folder) - full video with limited extras formatted for Blu-ray Disk
NTSC DVD5 (VIDEO_TS folder) - compromised features to fit project on a DVD

Ok. But are there any actual differences in quality between these? Let’s say I play the MKV on my TV hooked up to my computer VS. burning the NTSC DVD file to a DVD and watching it on a physical dvd/blu-ray player. Any actual difference in quality between these two methods? (I assume I would use the original soundtrack in all cases).

Thanks.

I need your help. I have acquired the Star Wars Despecialized editions online. I have the rar files for all 3 including the Grindhouse Version of Ep.6. I converted them to mkv files. and it seems I’m at a stand still.

My question is; what is the best program, the best way, to convert them to a file that will eventually be burned on a Blu-ray disc? Which file type is best? What converter will get me the best resolution/image? Do they cost money or are they free?

I’m not too technical savvy, but truly any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Ps: I love that this site exists and that we can all come together over our shared loved of Star Wars.

Hello everyone. I wondering if anyone could help me with this. I’m very interested in watching the Harmy Despecialized Editions, as I’ve never seen the original versions of each film. But I can’t download them on my software and I won’t buy from scumbag sellers making money off Harmy’s work and hurting the project. I know there’s probably not, but is there any other way to watch these?

Also, a side note. I think more needs to be done about the despecialized blu rays being sold. I had to stop someone today from buying one, and since the project can be shut down because of this, we need to do something about it. Thoughts?

Hi,

I’m looking for the 35mm print transfer (I think done by team negative) that was done a couple of years ago and Harmy’s V2.7 of star wars.

Am really sorry for posting this here but I can’t find them anywhere and really need to entertain myself during this lockdown.

Could anyone point me in the right direction please?

Many thanks.

They are also all on Demonoid, and there are versions even on TPB and KAT. For instance I see MKV release v2.5 for the first one on TPB (that's the current version FYI), as well as various encodes of ESB and ROTJ as well (I'm not sure if any of the others there are the official encodes). There is the current versions of ESB (2.0) and ROTJ (1.0) on  KAT in AVCHD format.

The least you could have done is searched other trackers before starting a thread.

I am not sure why some members continue to encourage posts that are against the rules like this.  It defeats the purpose of the redirection to the proper thread .... and it was just posted by a mod, Silverwook.

I did not give out an invite. I also only gave redirection as to where the edition could be found.

I tire of such things.

Can you not have one of your loyal subjects download it for you?

There are reasons that it’s not just posted to stream on the front page of this site. Although Disney and Lucasfilm have been very lenient with Star Wars copyright issues in general, there is of course a point where the ease of accessibility would be too much and generate the wrong kind of attention, and possibly the wrong kind of relationship between fan editors/preservers and the powers that be. If you uploaded the entire DeEd 2.5 film to youtube, you would see how quickly it would be removed.

It’s good to be skeptical of what software you run on your PC. Too far in the other direction and you’ll end up like one of these people: https://blog.avast.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/browsercleanup.png

However, downloading things through unofficial means is simply about using your brain on a case by case basis (a practice that should be recommended in every aspect of life). The word torrent scares a lot of people, because they probably heard stories of a friend who tried to torrent something ridiculous like Justin.Bieber.FULL.ALBUM.MP3.rar.zip.EXE and had a bad experience. The mechanism by which you get the file is not going to dictate whether or not it is a safe experience. A mega or rapidgator or whatever link is no safer than a torrent. And a major (i.e., not some fly-by-night site) torrent site will generally have a comment section where people will point out quite explicitly if there is a virus or trojan. If you are downloading movie files, obviously do not proceed with a torrent that is full of other types of files (executables, scripts, etc). Things are not nearly as shady if you are not trying to download software.

In short, it’s easy to obtain in the ways that thousands of others have managed.

Ok, so the download utility software is safe and the
myspleen site is safe as well. There is something about downloading utility software with decryption ability from Germany and a torrent site asking for login information that is a bit un-nerving. So, I try to be cautious.

Nothing wrong with being cautious.

You’ll actually find that torrent sites that require login information are far, far safer as far as copyright takedown notices go. They target people who pirate new MPAA and RIAA releases, and occasionally take down the extremely massive private ones, as they did with Oink about a decade ago.

As far as ‘download utility’ I assume you mean the torrent client software? There are dozens, if not hundreds of those, and that is indeed an area to pay attention to. As with any freeware app, the longer it’s around, the more likely the authors will sell out and begin bundling it with other useless garbage and adware. qbtorrent is clean and easy to use.

Not sure what the decryption ability function or corresponding concern is about.

Most agreed. I doth grow so weary in times such as these. May we take grace, though, in our ability to see past the treachery of thy wicked torrents.

That’s funny. lol I got a good laugh out of my post.

I got a download working. When I was looking at the process, all I saw was a wild goose chase wit lots of software to install and more possibilities for spyware/malware.

I am glad somebody or group has tried to preserve the original film. I think what Mr. Lucas really wants is a remake. Anyway, hope to see the film(s) soon.

So much debate over those original colors. Some insist her boobs are supposed to be more on the red side, but given the filmstock used, in the lighting of that motel, would produce a slightly more peachy colour to said breasts.

I’ve procured technicolor reference and am waiting for delivery.

Nowadays, these kids can just use cumputer generated imagery to enhance certain scenes! When I was a young whippersnapper we had to use models and be creative.

The Caligula Imperial Edition should fit the bill, then. It’s got three versions - which is more that can be said than Star Wars, unfortunately!

I would like to see the theatrical version of these movies, but why is it so difficult to download the files? I don’t want to go wading through the trash of the internet and risk viruses, malware, and whatever nasty trap that some genius setup to get on my machine. I tire of such things.
