Cool reflections in the Tantive’s cockpit window I didn’t notice before.

Guess Bail’s ship in ROTS was a different model year. 😉

In the EU it was retconned into being the Tantive III, which makes sense.

This would make a good fanedit fix. Replace the video with audio message only. Mask the correct controls over the ROTS one.

One thing that bothers me is that a chunk of the map is all that is missing. It would be better, originally, if the map were complete but the part BB8 is before someone Erased the planet from the archives. Much like Kalas recently did on Rebels.

If I had a map of Maryland but a chunk in the middle were missing, it would be a lot easier to figure out where someone is.

I suppose the answer to that would be that even a small section of a galaxy is still hundreds if not thousands of stars. Also, even if the Resistance knew exactly where Luke was in the missing section, without the map and his route it would be far too dangerous to try and chart a course through what is essentially uncharted space. As Han said, ‘Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova, and that would end your trip real quick’.

Now a bigger question is whether the First Order had the full charted map, or if this was a section mysteriously kept blank by the Empire. Perhaps they just never got around to charting it? The questions compound.

Right, my point is that unless the Empire/First Order was missing that piece of charted space, they would have a starting off point to find Luke. The ‘jigsaw’ narrows it down considerably from the entire galaxy.

Not only that, but I have to imagine that the Empire wasn’t the only people with a chart of that section of space.

He failed at every task he was given in the film

So did Vader in STAR WARS…

No. Vader’s plan to find the hidden Rebel base worked.

Vader ‘killed’ Ben after a fair duel between the two. Ren murdered his unarmed father after tricking him into standing really close to him and stabbing him in the heart.

Ben…let himself be killed though…Why exactly are you using this in an argument?

Also Kylo killing his father in that manner is beyond sadistic. We never seen Vader do anything that cruel and he’s a fully formed villain.

So how does that make you want to root for Kylo Ren? Two old warriors, an apprentice and a master battled and one in the end ‘died’. Vader being on the opposite side of the coin as Obi-Wan makes him evil but cool. Do a lot of people find unarmed patricide in cold blood ‘cool’?

I don’t think he is a poorly written character, I’m just confused about what appeal he has to anyone other than his helmet.

Potential

Potential for what, though? Redemption? No thanks. To become even more evil so that he can one day be destroyed by a set of heroes? Ok. But it doesn’t seem like something to ‘root’ for, which is how this whole line of conversation started.

Wait, there are fans who are rooting for Kylo Ren?

Well Kylo was actually an interesting character, I’d much rather root for someone I care about.

Root for him to hurt the main ‘good guy’ in the film? Unlike Vader who was a ‘cool’ bad guy, there are no redeeming qualities for Ren (in my opinion). He works as the foe to Rey but I don’t understand any support for him to be victorious.

Pretty simple really.

I’m still fuzzy on the whole good bad thing Egon.

Magic crystals are fantasy which is good, but if they’re in Star Wars it becomes sci-fi which is bad, but this is about wizards which are good, but magic crystals make magic laser beams and swords work so that’s bad, even though they don’t obey the laws of physics which is fantasy, so this is good? Although it’s just an extension of mystical amulets? And in the end this is kind of irrelevant to anything in the narrative anyway? It’s almost like this is just some kind of minor detail that allows for another series of banal complaints over things that don’t really matter or determine movie quality on the whole.

Can I go now?

(still needs to be fine-tuned, but gets the idea across)

I like a lot of what you’ve done. I think you could remove the droids crossing the hall and have Vader entering sooner.

I also think you can still show Tantive escaping and being chased by the Star Destroyer. Vader is just already on board.

The recent articles about K2SO’s death and the Vader featurette show that there were alternate scenes filmed, despite the claims that no real deleted scenes existed to be put on.

Also, it is my understanding that the Vader scene in the hallway was added on very late in the production and that a different actor had to be called in to film it? Well, I just read another article that said Vader’s final scene in one of the late cuts was to kill Krennic for his failures. Was this filmed?

Basically, I want ALL THE VADER FOOTAGE! ALL OF IT!

What 'a Star Wars Story' / anthology / spinoff film would you like to see?
Time

I would like to see McGregor return as Obi-Wan but I just don’t see how that film (or films since there have been rumors of a trilogy) would work. It would be very difficult to build a film around a character can’t be recognized or known by anyone for continuity sake. A film with Obi-Wan not dressed as a Jedi would just look weird.

The one plot point that could have worked was a confrontation between he and Maul in which Maul is living ‘outside’ the detection of the Empire as well but they just used that plot on Rebels. They could set the film during the tail-end of the Clone Wars/immediately post ROTS but I don’t know if with the current OT nostalgia that is going on that they’d want to do that. I think they’d much rather bring Ewan closer to the OT era.

Anyways, like I said…I’d love for one of the next spin-offs to be an Ewan/Obi-Wan film but I just don’t know what story could support a 2 hour film.

I say all of this without having seen the film in 3 months but:

Those that said to start the film with the Death Star completion are brilliant. That’s the ominous, space visual that ‘feels’ like Star Wars. I still think the opening scenes establishing Jyn, her father and Saw aren’t needed. That is what the crawl is for. I don’t need to see the shot of Obi-Wan dropping Luke off at the Lars Homestead to make ANH work.

If you want to include any of that scene, use it the same way it was done with Anakin’s foreshadowing in EPIII. Have small snippets of blurred dream effect(her mother giving her the necklace, her mother being shot by Krennic, Jyn screaming) and then have Jyn wakeup with the fading sound of her father calling her ‘Stardust’.

I would put a lot of the exposition of the Erso story that is in the first act in the crawl, as well.
----Crawl----
ROGUE ONE

A galaxy in terror! The GALACTIC EMPIRE’s grip
on the galaxy has never been tighter. Those who
stand opposed to their tyranny, the REBEL ALLIANCE,
have learned the EMPIRE has developed a new super weapon
under the guidance of scientist GALEN ERSO.

In a race against time, the REBELLION must find ERSO’s
lost daughter in hopes she has information on his work.
Following the murder of her mother by DIRECTOR KRENNIC,
the young ERSO was raised by the extremist SAW GUERRERA.

The REBELLION has sent their best spy to track her down
to reunite her with GUERRERA and her father as she may
be their LAST HOPE…

Keep in mind that we don’t see Luke in ANH until after Leia has been established (with Vader) and the droids have been on their voyage. I would remove all planet title cards and then place things in this order (as best I can remember now):

Crawl
Pan into shot of Death Star completion
Initial scene with Tarkin/Krennic
Cassian and the spy scene
Bodhi surrendering to Saw’s men
Jyn’s dream (short) with her waking up in prison
Film continues on pretty much as originally filmed

That should clean up the pacing and make the first act feel more traditional Star Wars.

The sunset meeting between the loyalists and Palpatine is in, and is good for tying up that barely subplot, as well as introducing tension between Anakin and Padme. Palpatine doesn’t tell Anakin how he feels at the end of the scene, though: “There’s much conflict in you” is gone. Better left unsaid, and have Palpatine be more subtle. Anakin is an adult, he feels his own emotions, thank you.

Speaking of this scene, I’ve noticed over the years that people forget to re-score this scene since it was missing any score until the Loyalist leave the room. I did a quick re-score and edit on it that uses the Emperor’s theme subtly and then coming in full effect when Padme questions Palpatine but I have nowhere to upload it to show you what I mean.

I like this scene after you cut out Palpatine trying to be ‘sly’ with Anakin about how to handle them. It is at a point where Palpatine and Anakin trust each other, making it appear as if Palpatine is confiding in him about his distrust of the senators works better and shows the shift is already in full effect.

Anyways, my point being…this being a deleted scene, it is often left with the very quiet background noise and the very loud rustling of people’s clothes and footsteps.

This is me once again taking longer to do this edit than it should - I’m still tweaking things as I go along and realizing I want to change things. xP

I completely understand. I just watched the original version of ROTS tonight and found more than a few places where I thought “I wonder how different the scene would be if you just rearranged the order of the dialogue?”

  • I’m going back and forth between keeping in “…to DEMOCRACY!” It really shows Obi Wan being angry. Like angrier than he was in the previous yelps. But it’s weird that it’s about democracy vs fascism, which doesn’t thematically fit with the idea that the duel is more personal than it is about anything else. But the emotion is there and it’s not like one line can’t be justified by Obi Wan just being frustrated and yelling whatever. Idk, without it, especially since I got rid of Anakin’s villain-y taunts (“you will try…”), Obi Wan igniting his saber first is… off. He doesn’t seem too scared or angry, just disappointed. Disappointed Obi Wan doesn’t feel as personal as I want it to be I guess. It feels a lot like he’s fighting Anakin out of just duty, akin to how it is in the original cut. I want both parties to be passionate and angry dammit LOL.

It is a shame you can’t replace the line with “THE ORDER” or “THE FORCE”. That would make some sense in that Anakin has helped destroy the Jedi Order or is betraying his training as a Jedi.

I have a feeling that the lava planet was added later and the original idea was that Vader was on a Stardestroyer. I don’t have much to base that on, so I could very well be wrong.
It would have been nice if he was on his big Destroyer from ESB. I know some would complain that it would ruin that ships reveal in ESB, but I see this film as a bonus story to the OT, not something to watch before it.

That’s fine, but it is still a scene that was shot with finished effects. That’s the point of the bonus footage scenes on releases. One of the ways it WOULDN’T have been is if Vader and Krennic had been having this encounter in front of Tarkin.

If they don’t want to have deleted/alternate scenes, that is disappointing but is ultimately their choice. I just have a heard time believing that what we saw in the film were the only scenes shot. Like, for example, the changing hairstyles of Saw Guerrera.

So, the shot of Vader and Krennic talking on the Death Star/A Star Destroyer is just a ‘thread’ and not an actual scene? That doesn’t even make sense to me. You never see Darth Vader on any Imperial station, so unless that scene was Mustafar and the CGI background was simply replaced, he isn’t telling the entire truth.

In the trailer, you see Vader standing in front of a readout screen and then Krennic speaking more confidently to him about the ‘power’ of the weapon. If this was an alternate take of the meeting on Mustafar, that’s fine. But that is still a deleted scene (or at least an alternate take). I want to see that shot. It had finished effects.
