Han not being portrayed right is the best of reasons to split but the worse problem the film could have had.

Tatooine would make a lot of sense if Jabba is involved. I’d be fine with seeing it again in this context. I think there’s a difference between going there in a spinoff because it’s established that one of the characters lives there and going out of your way to invent contrived reasons to keep returning in every single film like it was in the PT.
If only there were a character that had family living on Tatooine in the PT.

People will always want more. The storytelling should be able to go beyond the span of one actor’s career. James Bond is still going. Han Solo can too.
But the James Bond franchise gets rebooted and reimaged all the time. The timeline is mangled and moved around. Is that the direction people want for Star Wars?

Anyway, to address the difference between impressions and acting, can you imagine if Chris Pine had done a Shatner impression for his Kirk? That’s what Ingruber as Han would amount to.
This Han Solo exists in same timeline as OT and is not a reboot of the entire franchise.

I’d be surprised if they weren’t looking at such an idea for when Rebels finishes it’s run.
Perry King is still around, and could probably voice Han Solo like he did in the radio adaptations.

Star Wars has had a series of successful animated television programs recently.
They should make a Star Wars cartoon/CGI series about Luke Skywalker that takes place after any of the OT films.
Except every film after ANH attempts to retcon the original film.
Maybe before his turn to the dark side, Anakin mentioned to Obi-Wan that he and his wife were trying to have children, and he said “You know, I’d like my son to have my lightsaber when he’s old enough.” Again, since we’re ignoring the prequels, the backstory implied in the OT could have Jedis that don’t forbid romantic love. There’s nothing in the original trilogy that says Anakin never knew he had children until after they were born, just that he didn’t know he had a daughter.
They were both hidden:
“To protect you both from the Emperor, you were hidden from your father when you were born. The Emperor knew, as I did. If Anakin were to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him. That is the reason why your sister remains safely anonymous.”

ROTJ only suggested that it was a potential plot hole, since it’s entirely possible that Anakin discussed his plans for the future with Obi-wan, even if he didn’t know for sure that he would have a son. The prequels confirmed it as a plot hole by not having this conversation, so it’s partly the fault of ROTJ, partly the fault of ROTS.
How does that even work? “I’m off to be evil now, Ben. Here is that lightsaber I always wanted to give my son I don’t know that I have. I won’t need it now, I’m building a red one!”
The plot hole is that Vader was not Luke’s father initially. He had no job after ANH per Lucas in Splinter. Anakin and Vader were different people. To fix this, they just made Obi-Wan a liar. It works really well if you see Obi Wan as a liar trying to get Luke to take the heroes journey.

Thanks for the lengthy feedback, MalaStrana. I am most likely going to release a 5.1 version with a higher compression rate, and could also fix some of the issues you’ve brought up. I have a sound engineer friend who’s going to have a crack at matching Vaders dubbed lines…I agree it’s not perfect.
Maybe it could be possible to retrieve Vader’s lines from Rebels which are from the exact same “JEJ’s voice age” era ?
Another aspect that appears to be missing from the Rogue One Vader audio that is a hallmark of the ANH voice is the vibration. RO has the mechanized microphone sound of being in the helmet, but the vibration in his voice is missing.
When it comes to Vader’s voice, I’ve found that one of the easiest ways to remove the age from JEJ voice is to apply a pitch change. Taking lines like ‘my apologies…’ and going from C to B gives it new life, where as “A city destroyed…” needs a change from c to c# as it appears that JEJ tries to go too low there when exhibiting anger but lacks the breath to do it now.
I , too, am disappointed this season is it. This has been a great bridge between everything Star Wars prior to 2015. It was always great to have a chance at seeing classic characters pop up each week. I’m not done with this era in the Star Wars universe yet, but I guess this and the Solo film will close the book for awhile.
Anyways, one thought I had was what if Hera is telling this story to someone as she is dropping off a very important child who has lost it’s parents, two of her longtime friends.
The prequels will not be remade.

Things I like about your idea:
-first scene is reveal of Death Star. THAT is quite the way to start the movie and I dig it.
-Making the first act shorter and more straightforward is easily the main positive of this editing strategy.Possible problems with the idea:
-It would be pretty hard to effectively transition from the crawl and the starry background to the Death Star reveal without it feeling jarring. I suspect that some vfx work would need to be done.
-The feeling of hopping planets might still remain and it could be even more confusing since there would be no location subtitles (or would there?)Overall, Id love to discuss and figure out a way to make this idea happen 😃
The Tie cuts across the screen to reveal the DS. Perhaps pan down to blank starfield, pause and then have it roar across.
To avoid the confusion, perhaps rewrite crawl to point out that Saw is stationed on Jedha.
One big tool fan editors are going to need are clean planet shots without titles. You could reuse Yavin from ANH and mask out the Falcon but it might stand out.

I struggle with removing Cassian’s scene in which he learns about the Death Star and then murders one of Saw’s men but I think that all the information we gain from that scene (aside from his willingness to murder anyone) is learned in the briefing room on Yavin. It also cuts down on the planet hopping. If you were going to re-insert it, I would make it the second scene between Tarkin and Bodhi being brought before Saw.

However, if you have Vader show him the vision, you are changing the character of Vader without knowing that is the direction they are taking him in future films. Anakin was redeemed in RotJ. Having him be evil from beyond the grave seems to undo that.
