How to capture HDCP-encrypted HDMI sources (Vudu, Netflix, Directv, Virgin Media, etc.)

search for 4k hdcp stripper on ebay.

get them while you still can.

Everything on eBay says it downconverts to 1080p. If I am missing one that doesn’t downconvert, I’m sorry.

However, that is what I’ve read about 4k captures: there aren’t strippers that remove hdcp while maintaining 4k.

I have a 4k Roku, elgato 4k60 and there are some 4k items on my YouTubeTV DVR that I want to archive in 4k60HDR before they expire off the online drive.

I need the specific splitter/workflow that will make this happen, if anyone knows one. My understanding has always been that the hdcp 2.2 did not allow cards like elgato 4k60 to recognize the hdr nor the 2160p resolution. If I am wrong, I’ll be thrilled to know how to get around this for archival purposes.

I kind of feel this thread needs a mention fo RedFox’s new software, AnyStream. https://redfox.bz/anystream.html
Depending on what you’re trying to capture, it may make most of this obsolete.

That seems useful for non-live, 1080p content.

In my case, I’m in search of 4K capture ability.

On the amazon reviews, it appears the newer versions of "ViewHD 2 Port 1x2 Powered HDMI Mini Splitter for 1080P & 3D no longer strips HDCP

Any alternate suggestions?

I just purchased this HDMI splitter after recommendations that is removes HDCP (purchased from amazon uk).

Easycoolav USA website: https://www.easycoolav.com/products/4k60-hdmi-splitter-1-in-2-outdolby-vision-optical-audio-breakout

Amazon UK link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HDMI-Splitter-in2-out-60Hz-Black/dp/B085Q37JPR/

Arrived today and unfortunately , upon plugging my SKYQ box into the Hauppguage PVR2 through the splitter, it came up with the HDCP blank screen error. Went to the link to the official site above and downloaded the software package. Just plugged the HDMI splitter into my pc’s usb port (micro USB port in the splitter), installed the drivers, then used the software available in that package ( comes with easy video tutorial) to easily remove HDCP. Works a treat now and i can record 1080p from the SKYQ box. Haven’t been able to try to see if it works with 4k as i have no way of capturing 4K video.

I’m looking to capture 4k video from a Roku + I just purchased and has anyone found something that will strip or bypass the hdcp 2.2 while maintaining 4k hdr? Want to get an avermedia or elagato to record some live streamed 4k content that has hdcp but from everything I hear, it downcoverts it to 1080p when stripping the hdcp.

Is Revenge of the Sith the Best or Worst Prequel?
Time

TPM is the best PT film. If Jar Jar were portrayed differently (more Chewbacca, less child’s character), everything else would be fairly excusable and the film would be much more popular.

ROTS has terrible pacing. It seems to lurch forward with Anakin turning to the dark side, wanders off a bit, then comes back to it for no apparent reason. The final battle is fun though.

Attack of the Clones looks bad, has bad acting and the giant mystery in the film still makes no sense to me. Obi Wan and the idea of Dooku are the only good parts of the film.

The scene where Han meets Chewbacca was covered in crap. Literally. Or at least some aggressively unpleasant looking mud. The whole visual aesthetic seemed to be to cover everything with filth because … well … I guess because they could. And because that seems to be their current approach to reinvention. In essence, take a product, cover it with extraneous junk, then falsely call it something new.

The planet is literally a mudhole bc of all the rain. It is brought up numerous times. They are in an open hole in this place, while it is raining. The poor conditions are to show that Han was sent to one of the worst places he could go (a pointless battlefront full of slaughter that is just an awful place to be) and that the wookiee prisoner is being imprisoned in unliveable conditions and is being fed other prisoners.

Hope that helps.

Was Finn originally going to be a Jedi too?

Because non Jedi can use lightsabers too. Remember a guy called General Grievous?

That’s your first choice? Remember Han Solo?

Opening a ice creature (poorly) counts as a non-Jedi using a lightsaber?

We’re talking combat here.

Corellians, during the purge, will begin by slaughtering sunbathers on beach planets until their feeble blade skills improve.

People seem to think Rey’s journey is done and over with after TLJ, which is just absurd. The idea that Rey’s rejection of Kylo has more in common with Luke’s actions in ROTJ over ESB is just a silly reach for an argument that is on shaky ground. Rey conquered neither Snoke or Kylo (not even close).

No need to go further in depth than that, I’ve said it all before.

Not even close? With Snoke dead and all of Kylo’s training allowing him to almost equal Rey, who recovers from their battle long before him?

Rey was dead if not for Kylo. She had no way out. Even though Kylo claims that the girl killed Snoke, this is not actually true if you watch the whole film.

I’m not sure why recovering faster from a shockwave is indicative of ability, but okay.

Truly things look grim for our hero in the darkest chapter of this trilogy. How can she ever hope to defeat someone whom she always seems to beat and his army of tactical imbeciles led by a man so stupid that he fell for a prank phone call?

I am on the edge of my seat.

If you watch the films, she actually only beat him once, believe it or not, when he was severely injured. I could have sworn this has been explained before on this site but I could be wrong.

Actually, she shows that she is on equal footing with him in their final confrontation as well. He is not injured this time. They both reach for the Skywalker saber and reach a stalemate that explodes the hilt.

Healthy, she is his equal. Unless RJ was trying to show something else there.

Rey isn’t a Jedi yet.

Which begs the question what does Rey miss, that would prevent her from being called a Jedi? She has pretty much all the skills. She defeated Kylo Ren, resisted Snoke, and rejected Kylo Ren’s offer. What else is left for her to do, outside of defeating Kylo Ren again?

Being a Jedi is about more than just having all the skillz (which there’s no indication she has anyway). She defeated Kylo in a moment of weakness for him (and the next time she tried to face him she never even got to ignite her saber). She did not resist Snoke. And rejecting a single offer towards the dark side doesn’t mean that you’ll never face temptation again. Luke rejected Vader’s offer in ESB, don’t forget.

Rey has mastered every skill that every Jedi in the first 6 films exhibited. She did most of this within 30 minutes of having the Force Awakened.
-Force pull
-Mind reading
-Manipulation
-Levitation of objects
-Seeing the Future
-Mastery of lightsaber

Other than Force push,Force Ghost and this new projection thing Luke did, I can’t think of anything we have seen a JEDI do before that she hasn’t done.

And it is ok if she ends up being the greatest force user of all time. It is ok if she does new and exciting things with the Force. But as a viewer, in my opinion, she has to have ‘earned it’ narratively somehow. Either through a forgotten past or some other yet unseen reasonable explanation. Otherwise, using the Force isn’t a practice, a focus or a skill. It is a super power. And Rey is essentially Shazaam learning what new things she can do because she said the words “The Force”.

What evidence? It isn’t that she knew about Luke because he was a Jedi, it was that she knew the stories of the Rebel Alliance. She was just as much a fangirl of Han Solo. Can we deduce she knew how to fix/fly the Falcon bc she knew everything about Han Solo, back to front? If so, no wonder Owen never told Luke stories about his father. He’d have become the best star pilot in the galaxy and a cunning warrior right there on the ground in the desert.

She knew Luke skywalker and she knew about the Jedi. This exchange from TFA.

          HAN
There're a lot of rumors. Stories.
The people who knew him the best
think he went looking for the first
      Jedi temple.

                     REY
      The Jedi were real?

                     HAN
I used to wonder that myself. Thought
      it was a bunch of mumbo-jumbo --
      magical power holding together good,
evil, the dark side and the light.

                     (BEAT)
'Crazy thing is, it's true. The
Force, the Jedi, all of it. It's
      all true.

So it’s implied that Rey has heard these crazy stories too. Which we can safely assume would include Jedi using Mind tricks. In her world the Jedi are a myth, magical wizards who can move rocks and fuck with peoples minds.

But I never said thats How she could do the mind trick. She was able to do the mind trick because she gained that knowlege thorugh that Kylo mind meld. How does that work? The same way throwing a child into the deep end teaches them how to swim. You could say THE FORCE AWAKENED in her.

Rey knows how to fly because shes been around ships all her life, she knows the falcon because Unkar Putt owns it and shes probably been in it many times. In Star Wars, knowing how to fly is basically knowing how to drive.

Wait, are we saying Rey now gains her power in the Force through the linking of minds with Kylo? I just made that up in my previous post. Is there any explanation of that in the films or any other materials?

This ST might have been better served if when Snoke revealed he had linked Kylo and Rey’s minds, he also revealed that HE had been the one using the Force through Rey and all the things she had done in her escape in TFA were him manipulating her mind to embarrass his pupil (Kylo) and to draw out Skywalker. Then her fear that she was “nobody” and she had no part in this story was true. Kylo still kills Snoke but Rey, now broken much like Luke was at the end of ESB, must actually learn to use the Force to defeat Kylo.

Instead, she’s done everything she’s wanted to in the Force within 5 minutes of trying it the first time…without anyone prompting her on how to do it.

And we are assuming she’s heard enough stories about the Jedi on the desert planet she lives on with no parents, mentors or guardians to have taught herself to be a Jedi without even knowing it.

I just find it hard to believe no one in the story group or the LFL team working on the films told Rian if he’s going to go the route of her being a nobody with no ties to the PT/OT, you’re going to have to explain some of this on-screen or in EU.
