Vali - Thanks! I looked them over and PM'd you some suggested changes. PM me back and we'll work together on editing & finalizing the Spanish subs, after which I'll re-post them here for everyone.

johnlocke2342 - I remember mentioning there seemed to be some weird spacing glitches with your French .srt subtitles, but they'd seemed to be working. I'll double check it and see if I can't fix it. I'll PM you and/or post an update here with what I find out.

Hi Vali!

You - and anyone else here who wants to share their translated subtitles for the sources documentary - can send me a PM with a download link for your subtitle file. If you're having trouble or don't want to upload it to a file sharing site, just ask me for my email address which you can then use to send it to me as an email attachment.

To the best of my abilities, I'll proofread any subtitles sent to me for technical errors, collaborate with you on any corrections, then upload the .srt file to my Dropbox account and publicly post the link here for everyone.

Of course, you're welcome to share here a public download link for your subtitles as they are now; I'll reupload them either way.  ;)

Thanks!

Updated list of .srt subtitle files for the Sources Documentary below. English, French, and German subtitles remain unchanged; Polish subtitles added. Obsolete version have been deleted from the shared dropbox (so their download links are now inactive).

Additionally, I will now include an updated "credits" list each time I post these download links in case that information is to be published in any way.

*Note to those who have contributed to these subtitles: If your name is absent from this list and/or if you want it to appear differently (or wish to remain anonymous), just PM me and I'll edit this & future posts. Unless otherwise noted, provided names refer to OriginalTrilogy.com users.

I was curious as to if the English, German, and French featurette subtitles have been added?  Also, was there ever a Spanish or other language translations completed?

Hey guys, I hadn't brought up the subject of subtitles for the "Sources Doc" featurette since it seemed the conversation had moved on to bigger and better things; but since it's been mentioned again in relation to including it on the BD release of v2.5, here's the current status of the subtitles for the featurette:

I provided the download links for all of the most current/final versions of subtitle .srt files a few posts after the one A_New_Hope quoted; here are the links again:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108143349/Sources-Doc_English_edit3.srt

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108143349/Sources-Doc_French_edit2.srt

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108143349/Sources-Doc_German_edit3.srt

Note that I never received any subtitles for languages besides the three above: English, French, & German.

User "ww12345" offered to work on a Spanish translation; his last post [on 09 Jun 2013] was:

I'm working on it - it will just take a little time (as I'm not a fully fluent speaker, so I'm translating and then checking for accuracy/logical phrasing with a friend).

This thread's conversation moved on after that. So, allow me to once again extend the invitation for additional translations of the featurette. Use the provided .srt files above, and (for convenience) view the video on YouTube here: http://youtu.be/dHfLX_TMduY

In case anyone watching this thread has been holding out downloading current versions of the Despecialized Editions through MySpleen.org, there's site-wide freeleach going on right now for a few days, meaning your share ratio won't be affected.

Just sayin'. Might as well enjoy v2.1 while we wait for the glorious v2.5!

Feel free to PM me if you need an invite; I still have a few left.

Corrected capitalization of "Puggo Grande" based on Puggo's preference. Here are the direct downloads of the latest subtitle files for the documentary:

(No changes made to johnlocke2342's French subtitles besides renaming of the file.)

My pleasure. Thanks for doing the subtitles. I decided to do another read of your updated version to see if I missed something while reading it the first time. I have two small corrections. At the start, in "[ Introducing The Sources ]", "the" and "sources" should not be capitalized (alternatively, capitalize the whole thing). Also, "X-wing" is spelled with a lowercase w.

In addition, this time I decided to check that all references to users on this forum and their projects were spelled and capitalized the way they do it themselves. I have the following corrections to usernames and project names:
Dark Jedi -> dark_jedi
Team Negative One -> team negative1
Puggo Grande -> Puggo GRANDE

This is the way they themselves spell it, so I figured we should respect that.

I have made all of your recommended changes with a few exceptions.

First, I view the "Introducing" line as somewhat of a subtitle for the video, so "Introducing the sources" looks wrong to me. Alternatively, "INTRODUCING THE SOURCES" might be read as shouting. Instead, I've changed it to "Introducing the Sources", which matches the capitalization format in the German and French subtitles provided here.

Second, I wrote "Team Negative1" they way they signed their recent post in this thread.

team_negative1 said:

You can capitalize both the names or leave as is, whichever is easier. Thanks.

Team Negative1

I'm pretty confident in saying that no one around here is interested in the "easiest" option. If we liked easy, we'd just accept that the original version of Star Wars was lost a long, long time ago.  ;)

Let us know if you'd like your group name written in any different way.

Additionally, I have made these same edits in the German and French subtitles that were provided to me by GeorgeKaplan1959 and johnlocke2342, respectively, since they're mostly concerned with proper names that were rightfully not translated.

Here are my edited versions of all three .srt files (English, German, & French):

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108143349/Sources-Doc_English_edit2.srt

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108143349/Sources-Doc_German_edit2.srt

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108143349/Sources-Doc_French_edit1.srt

For those who are able and willing, additional proof-checking any any of these subtitles is always appreciated. And as always, the latest versions of any subtitles I receive will be uploaded to play alongside the video on YouTube, available at the link below:

Here are my French subs. I gave my translation to Marvins so he mixes our translations, but I don't know what he's doing with them at the moment.

Thanks for the preliminary translation work! I'll wait for you and Marvins to fine-tune the translation and fix a few errors that seem to be present in the current version. For example, I noticed that one or more lines were not translated (i.e., line 6 is still in English). Additionally, it looks like some of the .srt formatting was missed, such as missing spaces in lines 77-85, or the absence of line breaks throughout, causing what looks like two words to be combined.

Let me know when everything's fixed and you're happy with the translation!

I have also updated the transcript with these corrections. I have left one deliberate "bluray" instead of "blu-ray" for search engine keyword optimization since I bet a lot of people Google for "bluray" without the hyphen.

Cool! Just to let you know, the English subtitles I worked up based on that transcript did include some other minor edits/corrections I made myself. I didn't make a list of edits, but I'd be happy to compare the two versions and point out any other changes if you'd like.

Thanks for the feedback, Airwave. I based the English subtitles on the video transcript available on TheStarWarsTriology.com, so those errors carried over. I've made all the corrections you recommended, and an updated version of the English subtitles is available for direct download here:

Here they are... German subtitles for the featurette

Many thanks, George! Based on Airwave's feedback, I found out that the "official" spelling of "Blu-ray" includes the hyphen, so I've taken the liberty of editing your German subtitles to reflect that. The (barely edited) version of these German subtitles are available for direct download here:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108143349/Sources-Doc_German_edit1.srt

Both of these edited subtitles are now active for the video on YouTube, available at the link below:

http://youtu.be/dHfLX_TMduY

Thanks for the feedback and translations! I'm looking forward to adding additional languages as they become available!

Just finished a german translation for the subtitles of the featurette.

Sounds awesome, George! Looking forward to seeing your translated subtitles. If you share the result of your translation as a timed .srt file, I'll add it to the video featurette on YouTube and store it for a possible remux of the .mkv.

I think dubbing the featurette would be cool, too, though we'll see what others say.

English subtitles for the Video Sources Documentary are now complete! Get the .srt file with the direct link below:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108143349/Sources-Doc_eng.srt

For those of you working to translate the English transcript to other languages, I hope the above file with caption timings will help speed up the process.

If we get many translated .srt files, it may be nice to remux them with the .mkv. In the mean time, I would love to add any available translations to the video on YouTube. I've already added the English subtitles; view at the link below:

http://youtu.be/dHfLX_TMduY

Thanks to everyone working on translations! I look forward to seeing your finished results!

For those interested in translating subtitles for Harmy's Video Sources Documentary, I'm currently working on timed English subtitles in .srt format. I'll share the finished file here when I'm done; hope to be finished by later tonight or tomorrow.

EDIT: Rough draft is done, but I want some time to do some quality checks and see how it looks when combined with the video on YouTube. Expect a finished .srt file of English subtitles tomorrow afternoon (i.e., in about 16 hours as of this edit).

Thanks Harmy and yoda-sama for the feedback.

Quality is important to us all here, so I've re-uploaded the Sources Documentary video to YouTube using the original .mkv. I think YouTube's re-encoding still resulted in the same loss of quality, but the bitrate appears to be slightly improved.

The video is now live on YouTube at the following link:

http://youtu.be/dHfLX_TMduY

I also took the opportunity to improve information provided to those viewing the video on YouTube, such as annotations and a clear description explaining that Harmy made Star Wars DE, not me (an unfortunate confusion as a result of me uploading your documentary). Gotta make sure credit is redirected to where credit is due!

Harmy, as someone who I imagine judges the quality of individual pixels in his sleep, you probably will still be understandably dissatisfied with the quality of the video on YouTube. Still, judging from the views a comments on the first uploaded version of this video, I think there's an audience out there who will first learn about this project by viewing it on a widely-used site like YouTube, so this is at least a good way to introduce interested fans.

When I find the time, I plan to add English subtitles using YouTube's closed captioning. If anyone's interested in translating the dialog into another language, let me know (send me a PM)! Adding subtitles for multiple languages would allow this video to be enjoyed by a larger audience.

So, I checked out the clip on youtube and it looks like ass due to the horrible compression, so I still highly recommend downloading it from here, because on youtube you can't really appreciate the differences at all.

Hi, Harmy!

As I'm the one who uploaded your Video Sources Documentary to YouTube, I'd be happy to try re-encoding the video at a higher bitrate and upload it again. I'm not encoding master, though I hoped my conversion of your .mkv to an .mp4 container (to allow uploading to YouTube) using the program Handbrake preserved sufficient quality. Unfortunately, I think most of the lost quality is due to YouTube's re-encoding rather than on my end.

Still, I agree with yoda-sama; I think that watching the video at 720p on YouTube shows more than enough detail for your hard work to be appreciated, though even watching lower resolutions allows for the novice to become aware of the incredible effort put into this project. Regardless, I provided plenty of information, including your download link for the video on uloz.to and a link to this forum thread, in the description of the video on YouTube; so those who are truly interested will be able to easily find a better copy.

What limited feedback the video has obtained on YouTube has been generally positive and thanks you for your work, and I've pointed at least one person, who contacted me in response to the video, in the right direction on how to obtain the Despecialized Editions.

Once again, thanks for everything you do! Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Greetings, fellow Star Wars fans!

Although I have been following this project and this forum thread for quite some time, I believe this is the first time for me to make a post. Thus, I can't move on until I extend my deep gratitude to Harmy and everyone else involved in the various fan preservation projects of Star Wars for all your hard work, incredible attention to detail, and selfless hours of dedication. I am immeasurably grateful to be one of the many fans who will share in the benefits of this project to reconstruct the original masterpiece of the Star Wars trilogy.

I have broken my silence as a forum lurker to announce that I have uploaded Harmy's Video Sources Documentary for Star Wars: Despecialized Edition to YouTube. Harmy, I realize you have had trouble with YouTube in the past and some of your uploaded videos were removed as a result of copyright claims. However, I agree with Puggo: The world should see this video - it does an incredible job introducing and explaining the purpose and methods of your Despecialized Edition edit of Star Wars.

We'll see if YouTube removes this video, too. If they do, I'll be the one taking the fall for it, and that's a risk I'm happy to take for this project. For now, the video is live at the following link:

EDIT: The video has been re-uploaded at higher quality (as discussed in the following replies on this thread. The new link is:

http://youtu.be/dHfLX_TMduY

Thanks again, and keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to the upcoming release of SW DE v2.5 and the future 2.0 version of ESB & ROTJ!
