Just to think out loud, here’s how I would like to revise ANH ideally, feasibility be damned. I watched ANH recently along with a friend who wanted to watch the OT and hadn’t really taken it in before.
I’d remaster the audio for the opening crawl, since the same recording is out there in higher quality than what we hear.
Slow the opening logo down as it recedes, though the method I used for the 2011 source won’t work
I’d love to get finished versions eventually of what DatSWguy is working on, being Alderaan explosion with no shockwave and the Mos Eisley entrance
Replace the shot of the fighters moving from Yavin IV toward the Death Star because the CG doesn’t hold up and the astromechs’ panels stick out as incorrect at a glance (unlikely; it’d have to be a really good fan made CG shot but need not be identical; it could essentially recreate the OOT blocking using new CG elements)
Fixing the jump as R2 is lifted up into Luke’s X-wing while talking with Biggs (this will be available eventually from Adywan, though his fixes to R2’s red-blue light would need to be undone for consistency)
R2’s red-blue light being made to match its post-ANH appearance (Adywan is doing this beautifully, though I couldn’t use shots across the movie because many will have other changes that wouldn’t fit in, and it’ll be based on a different primary source; this one is pie in the sky)
Other then that, I’d say the ANH Custom SE makes for good viewing and nothing took me out of it.
That’s cool that he could generate that for us, but I agree the whole enterprise of AI voices would be an uphill battle and unlikely to feature here.
I don’t know why the text file I put at the original link doesn’t show up, its supposed to refer people along to the new one. PM’ing you both updated links.
Yes
I don’t know about that, they might’ve done more or less what we did for Kenobi.
I’m very much interested in a Shaw ghost! Just not sure it’d actually make it into the edit. But it’s probably going to be better for all involved to move it to the general TROS thread.
But I’d very much like to see that idea be realized!
I love how the character of the original saber effects still comes through and isn’t totally overwritten.
The work you did in the mid-2000’s is impressive. The work you’re doing now is impeccable.
If he has his prequel memories this whole time why wouldn’t he restore them before?
If the sort of montage we could create was what was in the movie I’d have rolled my eyes.

The only thing I’m doing is to remove Finn’s line about R2 backing up his memory, so that it isn’t completely undermined before it even happens.
I like the idea from DOTF for R2 to tell 3PO about everything he had forgotten, though. But we don’t have the resources to cobble anything satisfactory to imitate it.
I like the idea that Luke’s X-Wing helmet has a Star Wars logo sticker.
R2-D2 has a tattoo.

Oh, we’re absolutely going with “I am a Jedi” as opposed to no one.
Lol wut? 😮
What are you talking about? It’s what we’ve been working on for dozens of pages.

Ooh, that sounds pretty good to me! Like a good line reading even.
I don’t feel the need to add a sound effect for its own sake, so the benefit of doing so is to have it eclipse the seam of the change in dialogue. It can be more subtle of a sound even, to my mind. Hopefully when its all done the sound effect can be sent to me separately from the rest of the mix.
A fresh iteration of Jedi Rocks begins, and plays to completion, every time a saber is ignited. They very often overlap.
